Honestly, comparing a big cat like a tiger to a common household animal is so incredibly foolish. Dogs have been bred over millenia to be domestic animals. By that term, I mean that most domesticated dogs would actually suffer worse living conditions in the wild. I also wouldn't be surprised if there is some genetic predisposition in dogs to favor a static environment without much territorial control as opposed to the vagabond, territorial nature of wolves. They aren't pets, and would be a horrible choice for most people, but some can and do keep them safe and happy in private captivity; some are even rescues. Those would be the ones you DON'T see on the news (and socializing them at an early age, as seen here, is vital to making them calmer and easier to keep.) As likely as they are to go extinct in the wild before long, tigers' best hope for continuing to exist at all is probably being kept and bred by people who can do so.

I completely agree, if anyone should ever try to own one, they should have the minimum of 100 acres, a friend of mine had an Elk farm, and he had 120 acres of fenced in property, fences were 14ft high, he had a pond, open feild, woods, ect, and this was just the minimum requirements to house ELK! Imagine trying to house a tiger, yes they are beautiful animals, but if I would to ever own one, having a proper lifestyle for the large cat would be my first and most important priority

The problem is, even dogs can turn on people. But at least dogs are usually smaller than humans and can usually be restrained or fought off. A 600 pound tiger is a different story. It's just a bad idea to own a pet that's so big you can't overpower it if something goes wrong. But hey, maybe we can breed miniature tigers.
The tiger is a endangered species so I hope you got it legally. My personal oppinion is that it should stay in the wild, thats what's best for the animal.

@AnonymousCypher Yeah, but then you get into the issue of domestication. Dogs have been artificially selected for thousands of years to depend on us. Quite literally, they NEED us. A tiger has simply been tamed--it understands you're not going to hurt it, but it still contains all of its wild instincts. It's the exact same reason why a chimpanzee, no matter how lovingly raised, always has a bit of a "loose cannon" element to it. Those same traits have not been bred out as they have with others.

Are you kidding me? A tiger lives a nice life in the forest having to worry about very few poachers in relation to the amount of tigers their are. Then we have ones who live in captivity as a "pet". First they looks cute for a month while they are growing, it's expensive to pay for their food. Then they get big and low and behold; Cat get hungry. Cat eat human. Cat gets convicted like an agressive dog. Cat gets put down. A lucky few move in to zoos. "better life" my ass.

If someone wants a pet tiger all they have to do is selectively breed captive tigers with more domestic instincts This was where we turned wolves into dogs Look at those Russian tame foxes I'm sure the genetic potential exists in tigers look how diverse the wolf species became when we made them into dogs Maybe we can do the same to all the species that we want to preserve. Work with them genetically rather than cage them and watch them go extinct. Of course that's just me ranting ideologically

The problem is, even dogs can turn on people. But at least dogs are usually smaller than humans and can usually be restrained or fought off. A 600 pound tiger is a different story. It's just a bad idea to own a pet that's so big you can't overpower it if something goes wrong. But hey, maybe we can breed miniature tigers.

It shouldn't matter what country you're in, big cats should NEVER be kept as pets, even if it is legal. I hope those of you who are considering owning an exotic cat like this consider how much raw meat you're going to have to purchase per year to prevent it from knawing on your appendages when it gets hungry. No amount of human contact can completely remove eons of killing instinct in an animal like this.

tigers just arent pets, end of. yes, people have had them as pets, but anyone with any knowledge of these gorgeous creatures will know that no matter how domesticated they can b, they will always have the unpredictability to turn, and anything can flip a tiger out, a bird, plane, anything that can spook it, and raw instinct alone even. even the lion man himself admitted fully that he fully expected that that would be his fate one day, he wasnt unrealistic about that.

Before any of you idiots go about fulfilling your self-centered need to have a big, carnivorous cat that can kill you in an instant at least make an effort to look up their needs as pets.
Most Tigers and Lions that are kept as pets live in shitty conditions and eventually become too much for their idiot owner to handle, at which point they're often euthanized, chances are you can't fulfill a Tiger/Lion's needs.
