  • "Rovers are still doing pretty good".

    Really? Spirit is dying!

  • @BjornPalmen This news update was 2 years ago. But, considering both are going on 7 years past their original mission plan, things are well. Unfortunately, the status of Spirit is still unknown. While she has entered into Martian spring, contact still has not been established.

  • @PlanetaryTV The heigth of Martian summer will be in March, that will be Spirit's last chance to wake up.

Meanwhile, Opportunity is going to the Endeavour crater. And after getting there, what happens?

  • @BjornPalmen Well, Endeavor is a monster crater compared to anything it has encountered yet, so most likely they will spend the next year around it's perimeter, and if possible, find a path into it's basin. So, Opp still has a lot it can run with.

  • @PlanetaryTV There are a lot of sand dunes on Opportunity's way, let us hope that the rover does not get caught in the sand. There may be traps ahead!

  • @BjornPalmen Hopefully we learn from the soil issues that Spirit experienced and try to avoid potentially soft dirt. But, also remember that par of Spirit's issue with getting stuck and difficulty getting out was due to it losing the use of one of its wheels.
