  • Sublime

  • BEAUTIFUL !... The only problem with Zimerman is that if you want to have him playing in your country or town, he only comes with his OWN grand piano... Imagine if you live in the Pitcairn Islands...

  • Extraordinaire... Divin Schubert!

  • best of best

  • sounds like heaven

    wonderful !!!!!!

  • This is the most perfect version I've ever heard of this song. Played at the perfect tempo. All the others who play it too fast just sound awful. This isn't a dance!

  • good

  • I actually think I'm gonna cry. I only just started working on this piece yesterday, i've put in about 10 hours already, feel like i'm getting no where... my self-esteem = negative figures :(

  • @Praptolium Nah, keep it up. You're not getting nowhere. It's not easy to play. The expression is very difficult in a number of parts. Keep trying! You'll get it, eventually!

  • this hurt my heart :( in a good way but it still hurts lol

  • @jeewizzzz That's also how it makes me feel. I've had a stressful day, and it's nice to listen to something so beautiful as this is. But it makes me sad in a way, too.

  • My piano teacher played this wonder today (not as perfectly as Zimerman), I couldn't concentrate on anything while she was playing. Today I've remembered why I wanted to play the piano.

This song is deeply genuine, it's just supreme pleasure.

  • @rakelsandra well you have a shitty piano teacher since s/he wasn't as good as zimerman

  • @sunamiassault Well, at least she can levitate

  • @rakelsandra rofl

  • I'm studying this now, but I'm sure I'll never do as good as you did!

  • Whenever I play this I occasionally get my fingers caught when playing the broken chords at the beginning and some notes are lost in it and don't sound whereas you can here each individual note when Zimerman plays so hats off to him!

  • @pookietheanimator Just keep practicing. You'll get it, eventually :)

  • Beautiful...so soothing

  • Another gem from Zimerman.

  • what an amazingly gentle, evocative and talented pianist whose interpretation of Schubert is as close to perfection as I have heard.A pleasure to the senses....and I am from a family of pianists.

  • i find difficult to imagine shubert without friends. So does history, as far as i know. Anyone heard of the shubertiades?

  • The contributor who thought it wasn't fast enough should look up the word Allegretto.

I have playing this for 67 years (still can't get it right), and to my taste, to mind, to every sense I have, Zimerman gets it as right as I'm ever likely to hear it.

  • @giulitar Not to rain on your years of playing this but i know someone who played this in his senior year in high school, from memory, after about 2 weeks, almost exactly like this.

  • @giulitar Well, you never know if Zimmerman is playing the way Schubert wants everyone else to.....l.

  • Blessed is the man who can express himself, both Schubert and Zimerman

  • I'm guessing his fingering for the beginning is

2421 2521 2421, 2421 2421 2/4 for the RH. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the first page is really tricky for me fingering-wise. Especially the B minor arpeggios

  • ROCK ME AMADEUS!!!

  • Yes, Johnchicagoactor....Zimerman has not returned to the US because George Bush was our President...you are a fucking idiot...go back into your hole of despair and release us all from your stupidity...

  • go Zemerman!!! i love ur playing~~

  • I'm happy to see this video is so popular : 576 800 views, 650 comments !

  • VERY NICE !!!! EVERYONE PLAYS SCHUBERT'S MUSIC TOO FAST - THIS VIDEO IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Too slow in my opinion. A bit faster. Still beautiful!

  • @mathpenguin9

Exactly this is the big mistake! Schubert's music is romantic - speed is NOT desirable.

  • He plays it so peacefully T-T

It's really pretty, but I think he could've done everything a little bit more extreme, now it's a bit tóo calm in my opinion, but well that's just my opinion.

  • I think Zimmerman is play this song the most beautyful.

  • I adore thise piece. Used to have a soft spot for op 90 no 2 for its obvious fun but slowly as the years pass this one has just nudged it out of the way.

  • wonderful, just wonderful

  • my favorite part of this impromptu is the middle part. it's so stormy.. & tragic. what a piece. franz schubert <3

  • Superlative!

  • This is the most sublime interpretation. So beautiful, so restful. Superlative.

  • i love the interpretation of zimmerman!!

  • this is my favouite piano piece of all time after beethovens pathetique.

  • I play this piece... just not as well articulated and beautifully!

  • Bravo !!!!!!!

    Amazing !!!!!!!

  • Amazing! He makes it look so easy! I want to learn to play this piece now.

  • aaah he plays it so well!

  • @gummyfamus101 Thank you, and definitely! They wish they could play like him.

  • Who are the dochebagz who disliked the video? They have no sense of music, nor appreciate music. Well, sucks for them, because they're brains are going to remain so tiny. Music actually makes the brain larger, with more memory stuff. Music is not just sound. It's beautiful. It's the whole universe. It's................ Immeasurable.

  • genius!!! :D gonna learn this 2moro. kekekekee

  • Beautiful, but I thought the rests were a bit to long in the beginning. I know he was going for dramatic, but I think it's a touch to much.

Sencillamente asombroso...

  • 26 people dont know what real music is

  • nice beard.

  • @megachristopher01 and the floor is beautiful too ! ;-))

  • he brought the piece to perfection...

  • @IoannisGPetrakis Yes you're right... Perfection is the word here.... Unbelievable... Heavenly... A pure bliss ! Can't get enough !...

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW THE FUCK DID THESE FAGGOTS DISLIKE THIS FUCKIN HATERS HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • You are a genius. Please come back to America. George Bush is no longer here.

  • @johnchicagoactor

    Well said.

  • @johnchicagoactor but plenty of americans that fill the foreign stereotype are, like the guys that destroyed his piano.

  • @johnchicagoactor George Bush may not be here...but Barrack aobama is. I completely agree with Krystian...America is messed up and we need to fix it. If all goes well, we'll be electing Ron Paul in 2012. THEN Krystian will be invited to return to the U.S.. Of course we owe him two of the finest Grand Pianos that money can buy first. Ron Paul is the ONLY non-aggressive candidate on the GOP stage right now. If you're an American, and you love Krystian Zimerman's music, Vote for Ron Paul..!!

  • @johnchicagoactor Yeah, so his Piano ends up getting blown up by authorities again =D

  • Beautiful! Brings back my decades-old memory of a girl I once loved very much who played this piece at the performance level at age 10.

  • Megan Mitchell and Bev, Williams taught me the Italian Concerto.

  • Megan Mitchell taught me the Italian Concerto.

  • im gonna play this this year. i hope i play it well. like my Mozart Sonata in C major which is on my channel !

  • AHH He plays it so beautiful! I seriously can't play like that... and if I can, I play the notes wrong... seriously, it pisses me off XD

  • songs like this sometimes literally make me whish i was around during the times of the composer. i want to know what goes throught their heads when they make art like this.

  • At last! 18 years after a friend at school used to play this I find out what it was and can enjoy it once again.

  • @markcommadore lol ! you should write a novel...

  • @antoniogiordano1989 the internets given me adhd so I wouldn't be able to concentrate for the thing... what were we talking about?

  • @1004Cookie

So, you're able to play this piece but you are not able to spell Schubert s name properly?

  • Comment removed

  • I played this piece before, its a masterpiece.

  • i love how it opens his eyes momentarily and goes like : wow i'm great ^ o ^

  • Is it just my imagination, or can you hear him singing along at 5:37?

  • i just learned this piece its great

Excelentisima.

  • iii can plaaay thiiis :D XD i love the way this guy plays it..why are professionals such professionals..

  • Excellent playing of a masterwork.

  • Agreed- this is exquisite. The most beautiful of the impromptus, no question.

  • i am new to classical music and heard this for the first time today on classic FM. had to find it and listen again. absolutely stunning

  • @ExiledOzi likewise myself when played on Classic FM 17/5/11 :-)

  • @ExiledOzi likewise myself when played on Classic FM 17 May 2011 :-)

  • 3:00... Schubert, the poor lonely man living alone with having no friends. He writed that being very sad. I can perfectly imagine that human being with that part of the song...

  • @bio1229 actually he had plenty of friends, in fact he had his own little circle going

  • @bio1229 what bullshit!! Schubert was never a lonley man!!

I am from Vienna, his home town and my major is Music with emphasis on Franz Schubert!!

Schubert was never lonely, he was Bi polar which caused him to write these dark songs!!

  • The most elegant version I have heard! (Horowitz is more muscular in the middle section which I think sounds better) No one beats Zimmerman for his elegance and flowing technique, though.

  • chuck norris of the piano players!!

  • ugh, i played this song for my NYSSMA thing, which is a piano test, and i made soo many mistakes :( i listened to this all the time though and its soo pretty<33

  • The force is strong in this one.

  • Great performance!

  • Lovely playing! TY Jamnes for sharing and Sissco for posting.

  • A beauiful performance! Zimerman plays with such sensitivity and passion! thank you Sissco for the posting.

  • @CanadaPisces

Thank you, James, for sharing this beautiful performance.

  • @CanadaPisces Beautiful! Thank you James & Sissco!

  • Genius!

  • 24 People have no souls.

  • it's perfect.

  • Zimmerman makes me speechless! He plays the songs as if he wrote them, wow.

I'm jealous! Anyway, I've learned this piece and I LOVE IT! It's definitely amazing and I even performed this piece on my talent show, this year! It was just last friday, a few days ago and guess what, I got 1ST PLACE! Even though I'm done with it, I still play it everyday so I won't FORGET! It brings really great memories too ;) I LOVE SHUBERT!

  • @1004Cookie Ah, I'm jealous. I learned No. 2 when I was 9-years old and I wish I learned No. 4 instead. Personally I never found No. 2 very engaging or interesting at all. I always preferred No. 3 and 4.

  • @Mikozee

Are you serious?! I REALLY want to learn No. 2 exactly the way Zimmerman plays..it's so amazing.

No. 4 is beautiful too, but since I played it for a while, I guess I kind of got tired of it but I still love it very much.

  • @1004Cookie

    wow , gratulations!

  • @princenosiatajansen

    Thank you so much(:

  • @princenosiatajansen

i want so play this too ...hmm but still dont have such skills and disciplin and everything else :D

  • @1004Cookie i thought that too but than i heared horrowitz´s version /watch?v=yxeSDTdKbW4&feature=related ...

  • @1004Cookie

Congratulations, you actually like music, not like those 26 douchbags that don't even know where Middle C is...........................

  • @1004Cookie that's great! but please, write Schubert instead of Shubert...;)

  • @chfiesta08 i know right?

  • amazing. i love it.

i guess i love this piece so much because of zimmerman. he plays it so well.

i'm trying to learn this piece and i already know everything but not the trio. i'm still learning and it's so fucking hard. but that's not gonna make me giveup. i think i've never played such a beautiful piece.

and zimmerman, you're the best pianist in the world, better than brendel better than horowitz better than everyone.

you make this piece the best in all the times.

  • Schubert made some of the most sensual songs.

  • Zimerman is amazing. My friend is playing this,( she is 11), and I am falling in love with it more and more every time she plays it. I love how in the middle before the slow section it builds up to such a triumph and then just dies away. The image that comes to me as i hear it is a flock of birds on a fall morning cooing and leaving the cold. The best of the best improptus:)

  • It may sound pretentious but the soul and spirit of Schubert is just here, in the hands of Zimerman, not elsewhere. Zimerman is not only a great pianist, but a real musician. It is said that in the middle of a rehearsal in New York, made a scene because one of the cello players wanted to take a break when the work was just beginning to bear fruit.

Little stories like this are available in the blog La belleza de escuchar, where I am embedding right now this amazing video. Thank you, Sissco.

  • good interpretation..

  • Splendid ! He reallly understands the Schubertian soul. Zimerman creates so many images and nuances, an unearthy atmosphere. Outstanding!

  • Dnload the audio from this tune at thetunify doht cohm.

  • Sent this to sis for Schubert's birthday on Mon. She thought it was beautiful and melancoly; I think it's outrageously romantic.

  • @CapriciousCapricrn

The truly great thing about Schuberts pieces for piano is: You can't really tell if they're supposed to be sad or jolly, it's like a dur-moll-hybrid (at least to me)

  • @CapriciousCapricrn yes! beautiful composition..... and funny to play it

  • J'adore

  • Ahh, I love the middle section with all the chords in this piece. So nice.

  • @tubztele This is Schubert, not Schumann.

Sei grande Schubert!

  • Masterful performance, amazingly beautiful and elegant !!!

  • Such dexterity!!

  • Schuman is untouchable my favorite composer of all time as i sit har listen to this

  • @Tubztele Schuman?^^

  • im learning it! its beautiful...........

  • This is one of the most beautiful interpretations I have ever heard - and among the very few that I would listen to again and again.

  • Beautiful sounds.

  • my favorite one <3 !! I actually play it every single time i touch the piano :) simply amazing

  • my favourite one <3 i use to play that like every time i touch the piano .. simply amazing

  • J'aime bien l'interprétation. Bravo.

  • @locodeatarable I don't understand spanish

  • @locodeatarable I don't understand spanish

  • uh my comment with 80 and over thumbs up disappeared! lol I wanted to see hoe much consent could it receive

  • there are no words to describe the beauty of this interpretation, Zimerman is just fantastic, the greatest living pianist without a doubt

  • I like his interpretation. Awesome!

  • I saw this absolutely amazing pianist play in Los Angeles last year. He said he was never coming back to the US because we're a nation of hateful, unfair, war-mongers. I could not disagree. He's god-like in person. No American could possibly come close to his talent. Our culture is so misdirected. Everyone I know would rather play war games on television than go to a Zimerman concert. Mamma Mia! Mahdonna! Bravissimo!

  • @deadconstitution

It's really sad that such talent is not appreciated by anyone but us in this country. I regret that he cannot overlook our political misgivings. Please don't lump us all together with the evil in this country.

  • It is so hard to play this piece as soft as he does!! the tone is so fluid and it sparkles!! i played this and my teacher hated my interpretation! she told me to listen to Zimerman and I can see why!!.

  • I first heard this song while i was reading the book The Nature of Music: Beauty, Sound and Healing (great book, i recommend it), and I completely forgot about all of the usual classical masterpieces that I listen to. This piece blew me away so much that now I have come to appreciate good music in general even more.

  • @fespin09 shutup fag

  • Absolutamente Maravilhoso!!

  • Thanx - absolutely perfect!

  • Comment removed

  • Just imagine what it must be like: Your technical abilities are beyond perfection. You can devote all your time and energy to interpretation and sheer beauty. Kristian Zimerman is one of those. I for one am very grateful that he shares his genius with us. His Chopin work is unprecedented. The Schubert impromptus are brilliant. Although, for the record let me say that Murray Perahia is at least equal to the task.

  • Honestly

how can you not like this music?!?!?!?!?

  • I have a very beautiful from the beginning of the song and listen to him(Zimerman), I have already cried. His performance there is clear, crystal clear sound of his sound is very much. I was goog at this work, I'm very embarrassed as a professional. He is a very beautiful memoly the tenor of up from the 64th to the small milestone at measure 47th. The trio played, although it plainly, it represented a unique passion for Schubert's I am very shoked. His playing has a shine like a diamond.

  • Zimerman is amazingly efficient in his finger movement. Sometimes, it just looks like he is wagging his hand slightly and yet he glides through difficult passages as if it was nothing. No wasted motion (except when he makes flourishes on big chords for visual/artistic purposes).

  • this piece is perfect, just perfect

  • this guy is obi-wan kenobi
