  • me loves him

  • cant improve upon orig dsothm...sorry FL

  • ...originally created for a live show in LA a long while ago 90's. Amazing to see this on KCRW...mad props to this session. This album is pretty fun if you can find it (Flaming Lips cover of Dark Side)...The best comment on here is trash. Reading lyrics is amateurism...he is simply reading the music. Why to spoil it people...

  • Brain Damage/Eclipse is definately my favorite song on Dark Side of the Moon

  • I like FL but not a successful cover here..

  • @anahatatutu FL did this for a private show in LA in 90's pretty sure. It was weird they published it and again on KCRW. Must have been a blast to see that show in the 90's... I'm sure they did it on KCRW for those who saw them play Dark Side live back in the day.

  • i feel like lips are like a modern floyd you know theyre both soo wierd but awesome and very different for theyr time

  • the only thing i dont like about this remake is that the psychadelic parts of the album were heavier and the heavier parts were more psuchadelic. i dont really get it.

  • I wish Wayne Coyne was my Dad.

  • Thank You Lips...........

  • IMHO one of the WORST singers of succesful bands!!! My ears are bleeding...

Thanks for studio recordings where profesionals can turn his crappy voice into melodic :-))

  • soy fan de The Flaming Lips y Pink Floyd

pero el cover es muy aburrido

    osea no sentimiento :(

  • The whole point of this song on the original was to wrap up the whole album in a huge fucking explosion of madness...I just don't hear it in this.

  • "There is no dark side of the moon, really. Matter of fact it's all dark..."

Happy Navidad & Feliz Xmas *<[:{)

  • this is some lazy bullshit man

  • In all fairness, a cover is a show of respect for the original artist, by the appreciator. There have been many covers throughout time. Jimmy Hendrix became famous for doing covers, but you don't hear anyone giving him sh*t about it. Besides, it's not like they are rewriting verses from a holy book, and Pink Floyd are far from gods. It's not blasphemy or heresy , so just relax.

  • The only thing I don't like about Pink Floyd covers is all the "Pink Floyd Diehards" start whining and being all butthurt over their band they so place on a pedestal. I remember when I told someone I liked The Bad Plus's cover of Comfortably Numb; this guy told me that the band shouldn't try to touch an "untouchable" band. Pardon me? Shut the fuck up.

  • @thekidwiththefa honestly, i have no issue with people doing covers of Floyd, but can you not even see the die-hard fans' point of view? for them, it isnt 'just music' as you seem to believe, it really does just sound 'wrong' not necessarily bad, just not how it 'should' sound when others do covers. Admittedly people can be complete dicks about it and say its wrong to even try to add your own particular spin to another's song

  • Żałosne. Wszystko żywcem zerżnięte z oryginalu, do tego anemicznie wykonane. Coś paskudnego

  • Wow, didn't know it was possible to make Eclipse boring...

  • ... but this isn't even how it appeared on their album! Why did they try to do it exactly like Pink Floyd here?

  • That is rather odd he has to dig on the lyrics while singing..

  • Ah, hey. I'm gen y who was more into gen x music. One of those guys who rants about the Beatles, or the Rolling Stones. I decided to try and like more recent music. I'm not liking this. It's eh. The music is eh. I realize this is a cover of a Pink Floyd song of course, one I like a lot. That's why I went for it. And it's eh.

  • @Utterbach Uh, The Flamming Lips are older than most of your "gen x music" band majigers. No one wants to hear about your current statue in society as well. They want to know why you thought the song was eh. Eh?

  • @WithTokeMe I just didn't like it that much. It sounds like the original but more shit, in my opinion. Which I am entitled to, as is everyone, and if you take issue with someone's opinion, then you are automatically the asshole in this conversation.

  • considering the Flaming Lips initially were little more than a Butthole Surfers Tribute Band I think they have done pretty well for themselves all while retaining their own, honesty, integrity & compassion for the craft.

Kudos the PINK FLOYD for allowing the little people to pay homage to their musical genius. .........its about LOVE~!

  • Sorry guys as a pink floyd die hard i have to say this cover is shit there is no feeling about

  • @bigals1000 Agreed. I do enjoy the flaming lips otherwise. The singer comes in late :12 and seems almost apathetic through this song.

  • I'm a fan of pf, or whats left of them. Im a fan of the lips. A Pink cover, is a Pink cover no one can perduce the soul of the Pink Flyod. I Think the lips stayed true to there concepts of music and made there own. even kinda bad. Most people will not like them covering Pink flyod.

  • I LOVE IT!

  • I LOVE IT!

  • This is THE FLAMING LIPS, No longer pink floyd. Wayne knows what's up.

  • they just rushed it he didnt even memorize the lyrics

  • This could have been great, but i think they just screwed up, they lost the soul of each song. make a cover, make it your own, but keep the soul... the essence of what makes it a great track.

  • I love Floyd, I wouldnt call myself a purist, there have been some great covers of Floyd songs, like Orbital version of Wish you were here , or Queensryche's cover of Welcome to the machine.... but after listening to the FL version of Dark Side. i have to say, pure crap... apart from maybe Shine On, but even that just sounded like a crap cover band.

  • This dude fails miserbaly to capture the energy and emotion of roger waters.

  • Random thought...they should get ALF to sing this!!! LOL

  • there is no dark side of the moon, really.

    there is no spoon.

  • He has a double neck with one neck taken off!!?

  • Its funny how Wayne is reading the lyrics of this song while he is singing it. come on its off of Pink Floyds best selling album ever...

  • ahaha i was thinking the same, kind of takes away from it

  • they could have at least got some girls to fill in the backup singers

  • but that's not their thing.

  • Some cover material should be hands off. When are these bafoons gonna cover Stairway To Heaven.

  • Who needs to look at the lyrics to Eclipse... or any other song on Dark Side for that matter?

  • I played in a Pink Floyd tribute band for about five years and it took quite an effort on the part of our very bright lead singer to get the lyrics right on this. If you can do it, more power to you, but your average homo sapien would have a hell of a time memorizing these lines.

  • @Foundation4life you're absolutly right :)

  • @Foundation4life Are you implying that the lyrics in The Dark Side Of The Moon don't matter?

    I'm confused.

  • ya wait wtf

  • @hallmargauti no,he is saying that its almost a sin record pink floyd in such dimensions as flaming lips did and still have to read lyrics.

  • @japasetelagoas Oh ok, i was just a bit confused with that comment.

    thanks brah.

  • @Foundation4life ...reading lyrics is different than reading music. FYI this cover was a miracle. FL did this for a private show in LA in 90's pretty sure. It was weird they published it and again on KCRW. Must have been a blast to see that show in the 90's...or even see Pink Floyd.

  • @Foundation4life Someone that's written 22 albums????

  • wayne just make me so happy evertime i see him performing live, he's just enyoing himself so much making music, you don't see that so often like this.. these guys are special..

  • best cover yet!

  • Wow cute double neck !

  • this singer's posture perfectly describes his style in this song: bland, emotionless, and just-going-through-the-motions

and the voiceover at the end is just like he's reading from a script

    this is so crappy

  • .....You do know it's a small studio right?

You do understand if they pulled a Who thrashing and bashing of that room they would be in deep shit right?

It just seemed such a stupid comment on your part.

What do you expect him to do in that studio, break out their dancing alien santas and start screaming into the mic?

    Whatever, it's youtube.

  • i wasn't commenting on the posture so much as i was commenting on the emotionlessness (etc) of the performance/interpretation. that's the part i dislike

  • Beautiful. :-)

  • Some things must be left alone; and this is one of them. If you want to cover this play it in one of your shows, but dont release it as an actual album. It's like somebody remaking Beethoven's 5th and 9th, or Mozart's Don Giovanni -- you just cant! One needs to have respect.

  • ....did you copy and paste this comment?

Because this is the third video I've seen that comment of yours on.

Verbatim too, you didn't just rewrite that.

You totally took time of your day to paste that and defend a band on a site where no one cares by comparing PF to Beethoven.

This album really divided the PF fanbase....

  • Since the original master tapes of Beethoven and Mozart have long since been lost, I find this to be an odd comment. The 5th, 9th and Don Giovanni have been remade thousands of times by various symphonic bands all over the world.

The idea of a single studio snapshot capturing music for all time is a much more recent phenomena. I'm sure Beethoven and Mozart intended for their music to be played by as many different musicians as possible.

  • @ChrisRathman Well said, I agree completely.

  • @ChrisRathman OH MY GOD... I LOVE YOU

  • awesome. Anyone who's listened to DSOTM as many times as I have (surely 100s of times) shouldn't mind hearing another interpretation of it. Especially not by a band as innovative/impressive as Flaming Lips.

  • LT. STARKILLER FUCK OFF THEY ARE AMAZING! I BET your voice sucks! so there! poop!

  • Are you fucking kidding me? He needed a lyric sheet? Why was this project allowed? Yechhhh.

  • io adoro i Flaming Lips!

  • Vocals starts with bad timing..

  • @Arturdg1bk epic fail!!!!

the studio version of their cover is fucking epic

  • Pink Floyd does is MUCH better.

  • yeah...uhhgghhh...i don't know...might have been a bad idea...hmmm...

  • duh they were the OG's of this. no one will ever touch Pink floyd except pink floyd. the things theyve done and how long it took them to expirement with stuff will never be re done. the should have asked roger waters and people to lend vocal help

  • sorry cant beat the original

  • this sounds very different/better on the album version. overall, it's a pretty great cover album. love their version of Any Colour You Like

  • Ballsy to try to emulate the Floyd. Kudos for the effort but i think I'll stick with the real thing.

  • Had they been trying to emulate the original I'd have stuck to the real thing as well. But that's why The Flaming Lips are as awesome as they are - they don't emulate, they choose their own path for the pure love of music and the timelessness of it. See it as a genuine heart-felt tribute to one of the best bands ever.

  • all who say "this sucks" should do it better... I think this would really suck then

  • wow this sucks...i was excited for this this song was one was of the most epic moments in the history of music. that sounded like a freakin junior high cover band version of the song.

  • its nice to se some other band playing some pink floyd, making me believe they love the same music i do, but unfortunatelly this doesnt sound good... theres no power, no punch............

  • It needs the Brain Damage lead in.

  • @Wesleetu the song isnt the song without it

  • your very right. but i dont think wayne could of done it good if he had power you know.

  • Man I'd want to see that concert they'll play on new years eve... too bad I'm way away

  • WHYYYY a double neck body with ONE neck?

  • Because he want's a 12 string SG I spose without the bulk of the second neck.

  • @japasetelagoas because he's Steven Drozd and he likes it that way! :-P

  • @japasetelagoas its a funky style

  • @japasetelagoas cause its cool! haa

  • @japasetelagoas i think he broke that missing neck, look at other live stuff

  • @japasetelagoas It's probably some artisitic thing. The Flaming Lips are good at that

  • @japasetelagoas Looks like he took a neck off. Maybe he is too poor? Or maybe he has a bad back and needed to lighten it up or........

Why am I responding to this?

9 seconds I will never get back.

  • @japasetelagoas cause its cool, duh

  • @japasetelagoas the six string neck so he took it off

  • @japasetelagoas The bottom necks hardware was shotty so instead of fixing it he just took it off.

  • @japasetelagoas It's called a 12-string.

  • @bearchildofdeath OOOOOOHHHH REALLYYYY???JESSUSS!! In all these years i've been playing guitar i didnt noticed that it was a 12 string. Thanks mate

  • @japasetelagoas YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, LISA

  • @japasetelagoas because he's a hard ass

  • @Zeip343 i think u mean dumbass

  • @stitchmorg

    i said hardass

  • @japasetelagoas The Flaming Lips.

  • I can only assume that the rest of the cover album will be more original, I don't think this one should really be changed anyway. Don't understand why he put in less oomph than the floyd.

  • agree

  • me too. sounds kinda "Lucy-ish"

  • probably becuase the way they play the arrpegios

  • awesome! i love the Flaming Lips!

  • Sounds very... Floydish. PF is my favourite band, but I would really like for The Flaming Lips to add a personal touch to TDSOTM. They're a really great band!
