To the person with the tight wick....try taking out all the rayon balls and pulling out the wick....it may be tightly packed and the rayon balls are keeping it from moving
I use my zippo for both smoking and tricks so i have burnt out the whole wick. Im having trouble finding a store that sells them though. I just went to the smoke shop only to learn that the owner did not sell them but however did not even know what they were... FAIL. But if anyone knows a wide known store please reply. Would really appreciate it. Thanks
My wick is extremely tightly fixed in and it won't come out at all when I pull on it with my needle nose pliers, I am not stupid and knew that if it wasn't coming out as easily as it should in this video I shouldn't keep just pulling at it with all my strength because I'll probably break something in the process. Can you please take a guess at why it won't come out?(By the way it is a genuine zippo)
The main reason rayon is used as opposed to cotton is because rayon will not fall apart like cotton could, the fibers are longer and hold together better. Cotton, being composed of cellulose, might also chemically decompose when soaked in lighter fluid for a long time.
idk if u have heard of this but it is a metal fuel tank. you take out all the cooton balls (all 5) you unscrew the flint houseing and you fill the tank insert it and the fuel dose not evaporate out as fast and the company is called dimond i think its a japan company and it is a relly nice add-on you might want to look into.
Nice!.. straight to the point, helped me out Thx! Now how about a video showing your vast Zippo collection. I too am fascinated with them, and rarely smoke.
Good video explaining about the wick. One of the biggest reasons Zippo lighters get hard to light is because the flint wheel gets dull. I've found over a lot of years if you buy the Zippo brand flints only, the wheels last longer. Other brand flints (especially Ronson brand) are too hard, and cause premature wear of the wheel. Of course all Zippos have a lifetime guarantee, and they will repair it for free if you mail it back to them. Just google zippo fo find their website.
Hey Bud, I'm a magician who does a lot of tricks in Ireland with Fire and Lighters. I got me a lighter it's a Dora which are supposed to be pretty good. I'm after cutting the wick, changing the flint (which is working perfectly) and filling it with fluid, but the wick doesn't always catch the spark-- should I cut off a little more wick? Or put in a little more fluid?
thank jeff i think its jeff i'll just call cutlery im 12 years old and i have my very firsrt lighter and u help me changed my wick my lighter is a dehoo not a zippo but it's close enough for me cause i'm not aloud to have a lighter so yeah so far i've changes the flint and now my wick once i get lighter fuel my dehoo will be brand as new yesh
Pff I bought a zippo, the wick gets black in less than a week, it's allready almost gone from cutting it off. The flint is raped because the wheel doesnt spark anymore....I dont even have it a month and its allready like this...wtf people say the wicks should last at least a year before replacing....well not mine
Hey thanks that video was really helpful. I was wondering... i have two venetian style zippos. one of them has a very big flame but the other one since i ve gotten it has a small flame. How can i make it bigger?
@MsMkary You wanna move the wick away from the flint, move it towards your cap and hinge, the farther towards the hinge it is, the bigger your flame. Be careful to do it gradually though, I've burned my hand by moving it over too far.
if you have or find empty an empty disposable butane lighter, like BiC lighters or those cheap clear plastic ones, you can get a really nice, long lasting flint from them!
Just pop off (carefully! Spring tension!) the sparking wheel and under it will be the flint. I haven't had to buy flints in years. I love BiC flints, they're almost twice as long as official Zippo flints, and are basically free.
@rdescosar26 you cannot use a regular candle wick, they are quite different. Zippo/zippo-type lighter wicks have very very thin copper wire spiraled around them to give them structure. Perhaps the wick from a small lantern might work, but in that case getting an actual zippo wick would probably be much easier.
To slaymonkey117, Apparently it's a clock, if you didn't see the 30 replys lol. Oh and thanks for the video, helped a lot, especially the layering the wick part.
Thanx Mate i thought id have to get rid of mine and it holds alot of senitmental value (deceased brother) now his lite can shine on again and its all thanks to YOU! Gotta buy u a beer or sumfin :)
@iEatMinxyPeopleOMNOM Plus asbestos wouldn't soak the fluid up, and they're mostly made from synthetic fibres because they're cheap, easy to make, etc.
I dont understand why you made this so complicated. first of all, use twizers to pull out the cutton, they wont get ruined. second of all, its much easier to insert the wick from the chimny and then pull it with the twizers so it will go inside. this way you dont waste an hour trying to put the wick into the hole. and last one just take the damn screw out and make it easier to pull off the top of the cutton... lol, men just have to make everything so hard and complicated hehehe
wouldnt it be easyer to fit the string through the top and not the bottom? and then take the plyers and pull it back and so on? just saying... i havent replaced that yet and probably wont have to for a while but... it just seems so logical...anyone agree?
@godofwar078 can you not read??? i said buy a cheap knock off zippo and take that home and use it for " parts" i never said play with it at a damn gas station.
@godofwar078 The term "knock off" refers to a product not being from the real brand. (ie a copy) In this case, when he said "knock off lighter" he meant that you could buy a cheap "Zippo-copy" at a gas station.
