  • Nice to see that the same debate, petty name calling and all, is still raging on about Ornette and his work, and has since 1958. If you don't "feel it", just ignore it and go find something else to watch. If you do "feel it", just enjoy it without paying attention to those that simply cannot ignore something they dislike without insulting it. It will leave more energy for the good things in life. Trust me.

  • Dear Hip Cognoscent (including those who feel the need to defend Ornette on here so vehemently)i:

May a few of us please be allowed to prefer other music to this? May we please be allowed to form our own tastes, opinions, and judgments?

    Sincerely Yours,

    Not-as-cool-as-you jazz-lover

  • this is amazing

  • genialne

  • there's something special about Ornette

  • i remember this show. It was very scary when he passed out, you could have heard a pin drop.

  • he is a monster!! aleluyahhhh

  • maybe he wouldnt have passed out from heat exhaustion if he hadnt turned up wearing a damn zoot suit

  • !?!?!?!?! I guess i'm not the mature enough to appreciate a free jazz session... you may excuse me, I'm gonna hang on a tree a couple of days and see if i get the mature enough ;D... c'ya then! A DARLE!

  • clearly you are not very mature to make such a distasteful joke. please change.

  • ;D hahaha. Yeh, and i guess i'm not the mature enough to leave a comment without a response, huh?... i'll try my best anyway.

P.S: I hope someday you'll grow the enough for NOT TRYING to make people change (... not really, but i would like you to get the point).

  • youre right. but it would make my life easier, not having to read completely ignorant, offensive comments. the world is too small for me to ignore those that cause pain.

  • ... as small as your TOLERANCE for different points of view and your COMMON SENSE about what really cause PAIN in this HUGE UNIVERSE of smaller connections.

  • so i guess i should see what it is like to make fun of hundreds of years of oppression, persecution, and violent acts against innocent people, huh? then i might see things your way?

  • Maybe not "in my way", but definitely not in "YOUR WAY", that's for sure.

You really want to see what causes PAIN in the world? Just take a look at your lack of tolerance. That behavior is the root that causes opression, persecution and violent acts against everyone and everything.

Making fun about a style of jazz music that you're not able to appreciate? is it THAT horible?... please, c'mon...

... Woah! It seems that you're not the only one who takes a "youtube comment" to another level. ;D...

  • i could care less what you think of music i like... i dont need anyone else to confirm that it is good, because i already know its good.

what i AM intolerant of is racists, especially ones that make smart-ass comments about atrocious and sickening acts.

  • ... You know "Free Jazz Music" is good, huh? COOL! Good for you!

You don't like a joke? is OK. Just don't try to change me into your likes. That's such an "atrocious and sickening act".

P.S. Is "Hanging on a Tree" some kind of allusion to racism for you? Boy! It was more an analogy about a "fruit ripening" than anything else.

Now let's "hang on a tree" a lil bit more and trying to make "mature enough" judgments about people and their comments. WE ALL NEED IT. ;D

  • i guess it was all a misunderstanding

    peace

  • im sorry i accused you of racism

and as for the free jazz, everyone has their own taste; but if you give it more of a chance, you may hopefully at least see the extreme talent and skill that these musicians exhibit. it might be difficult to listen to at times, but the most amazing points of each piece make up for it.

  • spooky, i never thought bonnaroo would get a free jazz musician. Either way, holy schnikes, he's so good and original

  • such a joy...thanks fer posting! i someday hope to attend concert...those folks that attended Bonnarroo '07 were lucky...great to hear his music so appreciated by this crowd!

  • I hope you can attend too. I saw Ornette last night in Chapel Hill, NC. It was the experience of a lifetime.

  • i saw this group about 3 weeks ago in burlington vermont. killing as hell. i was soooo happy that they got him to come to vt and he def. ripped at the show. anyone else on youtube see that show (or better yet bootleg it)?

  • Great jammin' going on...

  • I can't get over that he played at Bonnaroo

  • He's playing in Molde this summer; I'm not missing that!

  • too bad he passed out 15mins into the set, i'm glad he was alright, man that was scary when he went down like that

  • Are you F**KING SERIOUS? A)There's no way in hell that you could write a single song that's half as good as any of Ornette's classics. B)Ornette still swings harder than you'll probably ever be able to. Plus his chops, soloing ability, and creativity are in no way lacking in this the latter of his day. And C) When I heard how pretentious your comment was I checked out your version of "The Lamentation of the Plectognath", and it fuggin blows. I don't like internet name calling, but you're a pig.

  • Amen brother. Amen!

  • @TITZraper

    Was this necessary?

  • Yeah, plenty of money in that free jazz. You = dick.

  • I suggest you stop playing. Since you obviously still havent figured out what playing music is about. Just sit back and let the real musicians do it.

  • How will he figure out what its about if he stops playing?

    Never stop playing.

  • You're such an idiot. I feel sorry for you.

  • I don't know if it's BETTER than Ornette, but it's as good.

  • your a fucking douche lol

  • @jeph63

    oh, just fuck off.

  • this is great

  • It must have been 1965 when I saw Ornette with David Izenzon and Charles Moffett. Although there were only about 25 in the audience he played as if there were 2500, convincing me that he was the genuine article.

  • if you look closely his music is upside down

  • how can you see that?

  • Hhuahuahuauha

    ngumusic

I said the same thing when i first attended a concert of Contemporanean music.

  • In 1964 I saw Ornette at the Free Trade Hall,Manchester,England. The hall holds about 2500 people. There was me and about 25 others in the hall. He asked everyone to come down to the front.

  • This clip does that show no justice. I was right there a little more to the left of the camera's shot. I had never seen anything like this before in my life. I've listened to alot of music and this was easily the most eye-opening performance I have ever seen.

  • i heard he passed out from heat exhaustion twice during these performances!

  • Yeah, about half way through this set he just collapsed. Unfortunately my tape ran out about half way through the second song so I wasnt able to get it. Luckily he was okay.

  • How wonderful it is to see the great artist play with so much verve at a recent concert.

  • Ornette Coleman taught the world a lesson in esthetics.

With his unique sound he opened the world up to new adventures. Thank you... so very much Ornette
