Don't get me wrong theres a lot still going on great today, but i think rap and hip hop are more popular now than they were back then, when rock was king.

I think Page and Perry are very similar. The thing with the two of them, they can shred like fuck but they don't get obsessed with it. The important thing is they can make a guitar sing and I think they should both be credited for doing this like the pros they are. Awesome!!

when comparing page with any guitarist, you must also think of versatility. just because maybe perry can shred a little cleaner on certain solos doesnt make him a "better" guitarist than page. i'd like to see perry play, let alone write riffs such as bron-yr-stomp, ten years gone, over the hills and far awy as good as page

I like Jimmy and all but the "versatility" angle is more than a little overblown. Jimmy didn't anything lots of other guitarists were doing at the same time. The guys in the Doobie Brothers toyed with open tunings and acoustic guitars too. Doesn't make them versatile. Page was good simply because he was good, no reason to call it anything else.
