Ok the swirl marks are from the sun and not properly washing the vehicle but judging from what I see here that is not clear coat..appears to be single stage urethane and a good way to tell is wet sand an area with 2000 grit and if black is on the paper then it is single stage if milky it is clear coat..good luck
@tigertruckerman thanks, turns out it was a very temporary fix that didn't stick so i'm trying to learn how to prep and paint now and i'm going to attempt to do it the proper longer lasting way.
@cjjones18 maybe, but if the guy had painted it right then even that would buff out.
the trenches on the hood the paint is completely blowing out of now so i am not sure what the guy painted this thing with but either way it wasn't done right at all.
@naterade21 nothing wrong with that, they are good sounding mufflers and they help with the mileage and power too, the only other one i would think of putting on this truck is a dyna flow.
Nice looking truck, she buffed out pretty good. What does some of those stickers say and mean? Besides the Youtube ones of course. Some I can't see what they say like the one In front of the tail light with some red lettering.
@1ChevyGuy375 the one on the back on the tailgate says "as seen on You Tube" the one on the back glass is a larger version of what is also on the front windshield, both say "Rehab" a highschool buddy of mine's group. then of course the ones on the back side windows say you tube and have the web address for this channel.
@Ridge97 No sir it's a 99 tahoe with all but 1 of the police package options on it. doesn't have the 120mph speedometer on it still just the standard 100 mph one. it is the LT thoug and the emblems on the door say it's a Tahoe SS i wish it was a 2000 limited, i kinda like the 2 tone leather seats in them a little better than just the one color gray that i have now. the thing i like about this one more than the 2000 is this one has the glass & gate too like the 2dr (not barn doors) and it's 2wd
@famouswolfy yeah that's what happened with my red 89 silverado Sport too just over time it started blowing off all the paint it's still ok on the sides and back but the hood and roof it's completely blown off of now. I didn't put metal etching primer on it the first time i did it so even that blew back off again too but this time i have the metal etching primer so this time it will be done right and i can finally get it painted too.
Too bad you don't have a carport or some place to shelter your vehicle or vehicles from the sun.The sun bakes the crap out of the paint an interior eventualy ruining it.I have been told many times you can find lots of old cars were the metal is good or surface rusted on classic unrestored cars but the paint and say the dash or plastic is cracked or brittle. Most the time here though the body rots before the interior goes bad.My 92 explorer needs to be redone the clearcoat is shot and flaking off.
@delmontcrusier Yeah a carport is something i'd like to do next but gotta have money for that and right now it's just not there my 89 silverado is the same way paint is blown off of the hood and roof on it but the rest of the truck is good. the red interior is starting to show serious fading now too so an interior dye job is in order too for it
i have to do this to my 240sx, its got the swirl marks in some spots. too. i think im going to try the mcguires 3-step cut wax. i've heard good things about it.
@paradoxdesigns well the process was wash, rinse, rubbing compound once it was dry wet it down again and lightly buffed it with the buffer ( too much work t o do that hood by hand) then i did the same with polishing compound and followed up with a good hard wax the problem is that there isn't a whole lot of even paint on it so there are spots like the one i showed in that groove on the hood that the paint is blowing off down to the sealer again so it really needs repainted the right way
@BigVOLdaddy I usd to use that black magic on them and it held up pretty well too but they haven't made that in a while ( i am speaking of the stuff in the black and silver bottle) Meguires makes some good stuff too though i use thier swirl and spot remover polish some times too and it is super simple to use. this thing unfortunately just needs a really good honest all over paint job again. the guy that had it before did a really shoddy job on the paint.
@cisjohn2616 yeah but the buffer left a couple of unwelcome marks in it and the paint in that one rail is coming off because the guy i bought it from fancied himself a shade tree painter and OMG the trash that is in that paint . both trash and runs. most of it was able to be buffed out but a good chunk of it is still lodged in the paint and can't be pulled back out just yet. one of these days soon hopefully i'll get it all redone show car quality ! lol

the "scraches" are from washing the truck with a bush and not a microfiber cloth.
