For those who might want a little communism served up with their foreign crooning, checkout "Vintage Soviet Pop," "Raging Margarita," and "Eduard Khil."
@Existentialexplosion sory but yoy probably dont now frank zappa music .this is realy similar to some of zappa,s music .not thet i put bad coment or something
Just the words 'Magma' and 'Discorama' in the same title is worthy of 5 stars. Add that this one of their most bourgeois-shocking avante pieces, and that combination is even better. I'd go to discos if they played Magma there...
Musique,provocation,mythologies,sf etc .....
uuuh... i know who hitler was. and christian vander reminds me of hitler here during his rally speeches to the crowd. maybe you have no sense of humour.... i know magma. i have a few of their cds .
@eugenecraddock Salut gentils youtubistes!
F'in WOW !!!! Incredible , they were no more than a year around !but here witness one of the 5 Best , most astounding bands ever !been into since 75' when they were on cover of EUROCK ( thank you Archie ! )- Yes , an acquired taste for sure like say Can Tago Mago or Art Bears But for certain .. been so tired of the word Prog; who fits in what pigionhole I was done w/ Yes or ELP by 1978 & so were they but Magma still kicks ass in THIS Century ! Vander & Co. stand upon a Mountain few dare go !
In response to the person you gave me a thumb down for my previous comment:
I wasn't saying it's bad. "Weird" is not an insult in my vocabulary. And this performance is really a playback, which is unbelievable for such "weird" music.
i like him but for ME this song is slightly too ANDREW LlOYD Webberish for me.. should have stayed more on theRAW rock side instead of operatic, broadwayESQUE
Andrew Lloyd Webber? This is a bit odd assessment actually. I think the composition has more Stravinsky esque qualities actually. The closest reference point from the popular music could be the late sixties Mothers of Invention that also combined rock and avant-classicism as well as rock rhythm section with horns.
:P dont sound like stravinsky to me ... maybe a little like frank zappas band... and does sound a lot like compostions by tim rice and andrew lloyd webber but youre entitled to your personal AUDIAL INTERPRETION FREQUENCIES
I could swear that Vander has cited Stravinsky as an important influence, along Coltrane etc. If you refer to the fact that this composition sounds kind of mellow, then you might have a point, as this version is a bit restrained. For a more aggressive version check out Mythes and Legendes Epok 1 DVD (2005). Vander's screeching is replaced with guitar noises, there's an heavy Brötzmann like freejazz section and the composed parts have the rhythm section more upfront and harder hitting.
i dont want to buy anymore MAGMA stuff. I own UBER KOMMANDOH a double dvd which contains a variety of their stuff --enuff for me... but thanks for the recommendation. I guess u can hear the 'stravinsky' but never entered my thoughts til u pointed it out.

He does take this very seriously - he's been doing it for 40 years. He does pull unusual faces when he plays, part of the intensity he puts into it. If you get the chance to see Magma live, you'll have no doubt about how serious he is about his music.
Yeah, Magma is miming here. Vander does an incredibly bad job at it. Such a cheesy, static performance - it ain't Vander if he's not allowed to hit the drums! Would've been so much easier for them to actually play the material, like they did on Pop Deux, but bands often mimed in those days on TV.
Yeah, thank goodness they played on Pop Deux a few months later. The version of "Stoah" played there sounded really DANGEROUS and those musicians fired on all cylinders on this composition and other material they played.

Uhhmmm, you really think that Hitler was as creative and touching as Magma are?
I see 2 possibilities:
- You don't know who Hitler was
- You don't know who Magma are
In either case you have to go on reading (and possibly listening). I truly encourage you to get rid of your lack of knowledge!
