Celtic Irish traditional music is so fluid, historically and soundingly. I live in Finland and my girlfriend thinks I'm nuts cause all I yap at her about is my starter set of Uilleann pipes coming in about one month from Canada :) I'm 19 and ½ and I'm going to dedicate my musicianship to this genre
The bald guy you refer to is Matt Molloy probably the greatest flautist on the planet, even James Galway( even with the golden flute) is in awe of him.
We just saw Paddy Keenan in a little pub way back in the back of beyond in a place called Lovingston Virgina USA. He still has all the fire and probably more 30 years later!!! A night to remember.
They are all still performing with the exception of Michael O'Domhnaill (alas he passed away) Matt Molloy is with the Chieftains, Triona is in America, (the last I heard of her) Donal Lunny is still on the circuit.
Now what would be perfect would be if I could find a device that can cut up my AVIs and I could submit clips of De Danann from 1976, 1980 and 1982, plus Johnny Ringo with Mary bergin 1980. I know this is a different band here, but still relevant. Is there a way to be able to split up AVI files.
its his eight key Pratten Perfected Boosey 1861... its one of his favorites. i think Boosey and Pratten were trying to keep the voulme of the Pratten, but make it more sweet at the same time.
Sorry to inform you mate its his rudall rose you can tell by looking at it, his Pratten perfected has a silver band on the mouthpiece. Also The Rudall Rose/Carte flutes end stopper is distinctive as you can see in this Rudall!
The other dead giveaway that it's the RR is the fact that it's 4 pieces, not 3. Prattens have one long tube, while RRs are in two pieces seperating the 6 holes.
Paddy sure is giving those pipes a workout, difficult tune done a 100 miles an hour. Thanks Bilko for these Bothy vids. Thanks Tom for notifying me they're here.
His reed is in great shape this night. He's just dancing in what's definitely unstable territory for your average reed and instrument on your average public outing. I've seen I think 2 other videos of this set at different times and this one shows him pulling out all the expressive stops. What a treat to finally find videos of players who've inspired my ears for 30 years.
Nice video ...interesting contrast with the tones of today. only some of the 'wildness' ws setting in ..
