the reason that alot of ps3 games right now look like shit is because most are weak ports of 360 games.

the360 has 512 shared memory, the ps3 has 256 graphics and 256 main=512. the thing is the 360 can devote say, 300 to graphics and 200 to whereever it wants. the games out at the moment, simpler basic games, can look prettier on 360 and thats just the way it is. when games get more complex with more things happening, the graphics will start to level out, as 360 is forced to use more of its memory for a.i or things like that. dynamic memory allocation. its probably better for the meanwhile.

although you're correct, you can't just think "512 vs 256+256." because it's more than just that. This is the real comparison: "512MB@700Mhz vs 256MB@3.2Ghz+256MB@700Mhz." The PS3's ram is more than 4 times faster than the xb360, so you're looking at virtually zero bottlenecking between the Cell and the XDR. Also, since every single PS3 has an HDD, you know how the space just sits there during play? The game can cache MUCH information off the HDD, things that dont need to be fetched at 3.2Ghz.

yes the ps3 ram is running faster, and there is no bottleneck between the xdr and the cell, but even a year on, the cross platform games are still running slightly inferior to the 360, and the system exclusives have hardly been system sellers have they? i know that there is great potential still locked away within that shiny black beast, but its still not showing it.

@exponential First of all, PS3's XDR runs at 400 MHz, not 3.2 GHz. Second, memory frequency doesn't define its performance, since there are other factors involved. Even at 400 MHz, XDR tranfers 8 bits per cycle and has a 64-bit bus, which translate sinto a 25.6 GB/s bandwidth, versus 22.4 GB/s for the GDDR3 (700 MHz, 2 bits per cycle, 128-bit). That means XDR is 12.5% faster only, not 4 times faster as you implied.

the power of the PS3 is but a promise yet to be fulfilled. when or if they make good on the hype, i will part with my cash. resistance fall of man looks shit btw, and on a side note, to fill a 50 gig disc, development will require teams ten times as big or work ten times as long in order to fill it. games will have to be ten times the price to cover the costs, so 50 gigs is a waste.

not nessaseraly....You know this could solve mutipale disk games....Instead having the game on 2 disks and having to shorten it. Thus decreasing the gameplay, cinemas, Music, extras, etc. The list goes on....Having a bigger disk doesn't mean that it has to have better graphics. You can have a game story line last way longer. I would rather have a game look the same graphics wise as late PS2 games and have a huge story line then a half assed story line with awesome graphics *cough* Halo3 *cough*

yeah that would be great, but it all takes time and money to make things longer or bigger or more complex. any time there is anything added to a standard game at all, it costs time and money and manpower. this can only drive up costs. in turn to ensure that the game gets into as many hands as halo3 they will need an advertising budget that equals it. theres no way you can spin it, so that i believe it will end up cheaper. the prices of games will only go up.

Halo 3 was way to over hyped and didn't live up to it. The story line was shit from what all my friends say. Its the muiltiplayer thats keeping it alive right now

You should also know that the PS3 is also doing alot better. 400 bucks now. Way much more afordable. And if you say bluray is not as good as HDDVD. That would also be wrong Bluray won and is more perfered. Microsoft even put out a bluray attachment for the 360

And if a company is already making games that are two disks and they are doing really good, wouldnt it therefor make it cheeper and more better to put it onto one bluray disk? And I never said make the game more complex. Take Tony Hawk or Need for Speed. Make the game you still have space for one disk. Add more tracks for races or add more music. Make it so the quality is crisp.

yeah but its well known that MS use compression for pretty much everything on the disc, and sony dont want or need to. the problem of course is the video card memory. you may have a 1gig texture uncompressed on your bluray disc, but if you only have 256 video memory then the cell will have to compress the texture on the fly to fit into video memory. its doing more grunt work than the 360 to pretty much get the exact same result. MS just have it compressed from the start. saves time and power.

if MS had put hd dvd in the 360, then the hi def war would have been a grey area for much longer, or maybe even won by hd dvd. truth is MS doesnt care for optical disc formats, as they want everyone using digital downloads. they would have backed cheese on crackers as a disc format, if it meant delaying the take up of blu ray, which it did to some extent. trouble with the disc wars is 95% of people are not willing to upgrade from dvd yet, and when they are willing, downloads may well be the way.

PS3 is faster, has a greater stock capacity, and utilizes more advanced disc technology (Blu-Ray -- it has twice the capacity with potential for quadruple the capacity of an HD-DVD). Graphics are getting better so quickly, the generation after this one will look miles better. i personally think graphics are ok now though. I agree with many of you, the ps3 is NOT being advertised enough, this commercial should be played before every movie, in every movie theatre all across North America,I can guarantee that right now less than 2% of the general public know what the ps3 is capable of. The most significant problem right now is that no one knows what Blu Ray is. Blu-Ray disc needs to start advertising a lot more and promoting the fact that its HD.

What's really funny is that for as "many" developers complaining about how hard it is to code for (I haven't seen any), you have the guys at Epic and Square-Enix saying how easy it is, and how they can work right with every aspect of the cell.
