You know, three very similar bands covered this song in three decades. All three were twin guitar bands with a charismatic vocalist. The Stones In The 60s, Aerosmith in the 70s, Ratt in the 80s. Oh, and the cover...it was on all three band's self-titled debut albums.
Just spent Xmas 2011 with my family x3 generations of music culture, that we shared??? I like them all, but hey nothing beats this. Very interesting where music is going and has gone, just great!!!!!! Happy New Year Bronwen
1st ever album? "The Rolling Stones" from Decca (1964). Think I still have it? This'd be highlight, plus "Route 66" and "Oh Carol" (Chckleberry) "Mona" (Elias McD plus couple of other bcoers. Happy days...
Great song! The lyrics are nearly the same as the children's patty-cake song Miss Mary Mack. Guessing the Stones must have taken it from that, not the other way around. When I first heard the song, I was so surprised that I already knew the words.
@MyHamsterHatesMe dude ur not alone :D I'm also 13 and they r the best ban in the world.... And if someone doesn't agree then they "GOT NO" sense of music
@MrPurser I was around playing and singing this in the 60's. The Stones are not a patch on the original by Rufus Thomas. Their earliest hits were just copies of R & B songs... The Animals, Beetles, Them/Van Morrison etc all did the same thing. All rock is the illegitimate child of R & B.
1964 was "Walking the dog" the conclusion of the debut album by the Rolling Stones - gorgeous groovy blues-rock that has seen a possibly names such as John Mayall and Rory Gallagher madeone way or another loan. Rocking greetings from Germany.
I`m 60 and i never had a dog.

@MyHamsterHatesMe - I was 15 when this came out - music appreciation has no age limit - you should have been here through the 60's
