Clarinet Maintenance : Cleaning a Clarinet Mouthpiece

Wow. Just...wow. Just goes to show you that anyone can claim to know what they're talking about and pass along misinformation on the Internet. A tiny drop of dish soap, room temperature water, and a cotton swab or your (short-nailed) pinky finger will clean out a clarinet mouthpiece just fine, as long as you're care about keeping the cork as dry as possible.

NEVER do this with your mouthpiece! you WILL ruin it! clearly you dont know much about clarinet maintenance at all! Have you really been learning these things from teachers or is it just your own fancy ideas? I recomend searching youtube for "cleaning clarinet" and go to martinmusicnewarks vid "Proper ways to clean a clarinet"

though I rather would pull the swab the other direction AFTER removing the mouthpiece

Actually, you can soak it in WATER, but not soapy water. My band teacher does that all the time, and it doesn't hurt it at all.

She just ruined the mouthpiece with the jagged edges of that brush. I clean my mouthpiece(s) after each use with a clean hanky or soft cloth. If you don't do this then you need to watch these worthless videos and ruin your instrument(s). These videos from this person are a scam and meant for you to damage your instrument(s).

Do you know anything about clarinets! You can't soak the mouthpiece in soapy water! the corks will ruin.

you never put your clarinet in soapy water with corks/pads on it it will ruin the corks/ pads

I would just use a rolled piece of paper towel. Youre far less likely to damage the rails with a paper towel and a Q tip than a harsh piece of steel piping. It also has far more surface area so getting all the little bits that a brush will miss is quick and easy.
