If he deleted them three years ago by the time, it is unlikely that THOUSANDS of them still could be found including VIDEOS, because those area in the hard disk would be overwritten by new data from time to time. Just because you hold a camera infront of someone and they see a flash, does not mean they consented to have their photo taken. Something wrong with this guy to have over 1300 photos of himself having sex with other actresses. If he just deleted the files, before he took it to repair. Then, it is possible to recover. Then, it means it is more likely that he kept them in all those three years and watched them sometimes. Does it make sense to you?

I am a computer expert by myself. If he deleted them three years ago by the time, it is unlikely that THOUSANDS of them still could be found including VIDEOS, because those area in the hard disk would be overwritten by new data from time to time. Except, if he installed a recovering hard disk software 3 years ago before the hard disk got problems. As I know, this is not the case.

the only way to do that is by REFORMATING. which i dont think he did.
