  • Hey Travis do you have the transcriptions to this? it'd be awesome if u can put them up :) Thanks !

  • I come back just to hear the song !!

  • This might not be your usual kind of music, but you wrote this very masterfully. Its technical but not so technical as to outshine the rest of the track. Good job.

  • 2:25 Left hand hitting invisible cymbal? lol =D

  • I miss playing drums

  • Duuuude your kit sounds sexy!

  • so stoked to see this guy tracking drums for i am abomination, its gonnabe epic!

  • Travis, while I'm sure you're perfectly satisfied with your set-up (and are far more knowledgeable than me), is there any reason you mount your china off of a separate stand entirely, instead of a boom arm + clamp off of another stand? I notice you're always moving it back in place, etc.

  • @Steve128967 If it was on a clamp+holder the clamp would just inch back every hit or so; trust me, I've tried. The stand is sturdier. I don't always bother putting things in front of the stand or duct-taping it down (as I do at my home studio) because it doesn't take me long to track.

  • @shaftninja

How about some good old sandbags for the china stand? Just like Dave Fucking Grohl haha!

  • 0:09 - 0:12 and 1:01 - 1:04 and 2:05 - 2:08 - crashes complement melodically the guitar accents. (HighP - HighP - LowP)

1:40 - 1:50 - double bass long run (instead of following the rythm guitar) with toms and cymbals

0:35 - 0:47 - double bass follow guitar riff and the brief fills-in complements vocals. The 13 hats is also used for energy.

It's also interesting to note how the drums complement guitar during chorus with accents on china/snare + brief linear fill-in with toms here and there.

  • Im really curious to know how you get your snare drum to stick out that much in the mix?

Im having some problems with getting mine to.

  • I don't think he's worried about having multiple "takes". He's recording drum tracks for bands that are hiring him to write and record a drum part, which will more than likely represent their band on an album. Under those circumstances, what sense does it make to worry about having multiple takes?

  • What kind of snare is that?

  • @thebeat42 In 113 videos, I don't know how many times he's answered that question, lol. It's a Pearl Reference Brass 6.5x14

  • @thebeat42 Shit, like a jackass I didn't pay attention to the snare in the video and assumed he was using his Reference. According to his website, since that one is black, that would be his 7x14 Stainless Stell, though it does not list a brand with that snare.

  • Were you planning on posting the transcript to this?

And of course amazing drumming as always, really dig this band's style.

  • I think this snare sound is one of the best ive heard in all of your videos, and i dont see a problem with the fact he puts multiple takes together, to get a perfect take is a very difficult thing to achieve and in reality most things nowadays are chopped up and put together

I really like the sound of this track as well, great stuff travis!

  • when it comes to sessions such as this one where you had to compose parts in the studio, do you make a short hand chart just to get through the song form? also how many times do you normally listen to a song in this instance?

  • @Drumrrr4life I did that for the first Gruhin session, TCSN and some others but for this tune I mapped out every hit. After I finished in Guitar Pro I exported the chart, 'squashed' the bar lines together manually with MS Paint (woo-hoo!) and read the chart on a computer while tracking (it's out of the frame).

  • Travis Orbin: God of Linear Fills

  • whoever Acadia is, i hope they know they're much better than that paramore stuff.

  • @JakeBPlaysMusic Trying to be check out our other song its alittle harder

  • @JakeBPlaysMusic US TOO

  • THANK YOU TRAVIS SO MUCH! YOU OUT DID YOURSELF ONCE AGAIN!

  • i saw what you mentioned in the description about that crazy cymbal choke.. sucks that we cant hear that man! lol good as always tho mate

  • this song is actually fantastic. at 1:39 I DIED

  • @biocideband THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

  • @shaftninja would you consider recording a video just about your snare drum? i'd be interested in knowing anything and everything about it... best sound i've ever heard

  • run china runnnnnnnnnnn!

  • why exactly do your videos cut and the china moves, do u stop and fix it or just film the song in cuts?

  • sorry for the stupid question but are you still with sky eats airplane?

  • @Dr8co1 He's stated that they are on hiatus. He's currently with Of Legends.

  • Introduction of the moving crash. 0:47

  • great beat....

  • i wonder what it's like to have your life consumed by something you love... it must be nice. Especially drumming.

  • normally i don't like pop/punk too much but this chick's voice is too good to pass. anyways i've got a name for all the crazy orbin fans: suborbinates. what do you think? hahahaha.

  • Comment removed

  • sounds like the singer from Skylit Drive

  • @DarthRoy1292 Really?

  • @AcadiamusicMD yeah it reminded me of their singe, but not a big deal, the song is amazing

  • Hey Travis!!

First: I love your videos ...really inspiring work! I love your precision everything seems so well thought and worked out! Props!

my question: Are you using a sample for the snare sound?

  • Why the blanket?

  • @GeneralMillss likely to try to reduce cymbal bleed into the kick mic. ive done it a few times but it rarely seems to help

  • Hey Travis ! One more time excellent drumming ! But why don't you block you chinese stand so it can't move anymore ? It must be stressful to see it moving away when you're playing

  • Ever tried utilizing that boom stand for the China cymbal? Might help with the constant moving.

  • Sounds like Paramore's Haley singing

  • @musicnab edit: sounds like Paramore.

  • This is insanely catchy... I keep hitting "replay"

  • @Rougarou13 Thank You

  • Your drumset sounds amazing. Song is nice too, especially drum part.

  • Travis can make any band to sound amazing :)

  • lol your china is always sliding

  • I sure hope that's a woman singing.

  • @cahslundglass It is i assure you lol :)

  • The magical stand has magically appeared again....

  • great band! really diggin' this song.

  • @scrowdrlrr Thanks

  • jesus christ. i dont even play drums. but this guy is a boss.

  • That lady has got one hell of a voice!

    Wait...

  • @aphat Wait for what? That is a lady singing lol

  • @aphat Thank you

  • The china is magic.

  • One of my favorite sessions so far, surprisingly.

  • @TheBeastcleave :) thank you

  • Return of the moving china

  • @basicbreakfast at 1:55 is the best! lol

  • Great stuff man. Can't wait to hear you on the new I Am Abomination track.

  • Although amazing, as always, I'm still surprised he hasn't sorted the moving china! Duct tape that bad boy down!

  • After two years watching all of your videos, i can say that...

I can't stand those over-redundant comments on your "magical" "hollow" "running" "auto-fixing" china stand...

    Great work as usual ;-)

  • This guy seriously needs more recognition, such an influential musician and has ridiculous skills.

  • @jamierhg3 Hell yeah!

  • Why does your china move almost every video?

  • @dominiccss Because he smacks the hell out of it almost every video!

  • I could watch you drumming all day long!

  • 0:24 magical moving china

  • What do you use for tom mics? :)

  • You seem to be more and more into pop/rockish bands recently. Any particular reason?

  • @1S0AR I'm guessing that every video of his that says "session" means he charged for it so, to make money?

  • @Andrexthor But don't you think bands who play more technical stuff would hire him more? I think his potential stands out alot more in that kind of songs

  • @1S0AR My guess is that if a musician is making a living off music, then s/he cannot be too picky all the time. Also, he probably likes this music too, must super musicians I know are quite open minded to many genres, versatility keeps you relevant in the industry. Besides, are you saying that just because a song is not very technical it doesn't deserve to be Orbinated? personally I'd love for more mainstream music to have this kind of quality drumming.

  • @Andrexthor That's not my point. What I ment is I was surprised there wasn't any more technical bands that asked for his help since that's where he can show off more.

  • You are genius men! Do you use bass drum and snare replacement?

  • Hey great work, thank you for taking the time to upload your session videos onto youtube, they're so cool to watch. Also, can you tell me the reason for covering your bass drum with a blanket? I always thought it was an amateur way of muffling it, but obviously if you're doing it, theres probably a better reason than that.

  • I want your china stand, because it fixes itself and I need one that can do that :(

  • Your incredible! How long have you been playing for?

  • Crazy job man as usual!

those hihat 32nds at the begining caught me off guard.very nice

  • Yet another superb orbinated masterpiece... You guys should probably look into doing RAID 1 or 5 for data redundancy.

  • @stunnaonflyrims No idea what that is, haha - is that when the files are constantly uploaded to a server to act as a backup?

  • @shaftninja if you have two or more identical hard drives you can use RAID 1.

RAID 1 means that it saves the same files on the 2 or more drives you have in RAID 1 so if one of the drives fail you still have the files on the other drives so you wont loose any data :)

  • @shaftninja raid 1 is where you get 2 hard drives that copy every single file to each other... so if you do something on one hard drive it gets written to the second hard drive exactly the same.

  • @shaftninja Much easier than messing with networking luckily, you just run 2 of the same hard drive in unison, although it shows as one drive in your operating system. It writes to both drives simultaneously, so if one goes, you've got a real time backup.

If you've got some extra cash, you should aim for flash/SSD storage, if for the 10x speed increase alone

  • @shaftninja Yeah, you have two (or more) identical hard drives (or solid state drives, which are much faster and reliable, it would be redundant to RAID 1 those) and they save the same information on them :) look at digitalstormonline(dot)com if you need a good system, they're my personal favorite

  • @shaftninja

It's not backed up to a server. A simple way of thinking how RAID can act is lets say you have a one terabyte hard drive, with RAID you could have two hard drives in the computer and they would be mirror copies of each other so if one fails you still have all the data. It can get more technical and complicated than this, but a simple way to have your hard drive backing itself up without having to manually do it. Sorry if that's confusing

  • @shaftninja Basicly means that the data is stored to another hard drive automatically

  • @shaftninja Nah, RAID 1 mirrors your drives so that if one fails the other maintains a copy of the original that is fully functional. Just some extra protection from hard drive failures; especially when you're uploading to a cloud drive constantly.

  • @shaftninja Raid 1 is two mirrored drives while Raid 5 is 5 drives that have a parity

  • @boltp777 Raid 5 is the best way to go

  • @stunnaonflyrims lol, what a strange suggestion... ?

  • @stunnaonflyrims Raid 5 all the way

  • @boltp777 Lmao, you replied to @stunnaonflyrims, then to Travis, then to yourself!

  • i would love to sit in/see some of your creative writing process.

  • Great drumming Travis :)
