Oh sorry, I live in Australia where the flytraps can be burnt in summer and the winters can be warm.

they do need dormancy. In winter put it outside. In summer and spring, put it inside.

If the winter is particularly warm, put your flytrap in the fridge. (I know it sounds drastic)

If your venus flytrap is in dormancy, it will look like it is dead. Just leave it, it will grow back in spring.

If your flytrap goes through sucessful dormancy, it will produce a flower in spring that looks somewhat like a white cherry blossom. Hope this helps :^)

All VFT differ depending on breed/cultivation. The trap that produces the largest trap is a B-52 VFT. For beginners that know a lot about VFT and are willing for a better trap than one from The Home Depot, I recommend the Big Vigorous cultivation.
