thanks for sharing.your tutoring really help with this. i really like this bass line in this song and thanks to you i'm beginning to pick up on the octaves and the other little runs. you really broke this bass line down.peace out my friend.
I'm keyboardist but I have seen this video a lot times. It's really terrific an very didactic and i take your tips to simulate your playing bass style in my midi sequences. Thanks!
@quatrocordon No problem! Dang, you can play this after 5 months? That is great man. If you have requests I will have a lot of free-time in a few weeks to make some tutorials/ covers. Lemme know!
Not bad buddy, but you might wanna learn the details of the bassline a bit more before you teach people how to play it. I always watch Davidsinrocks! His bass covers are awesome. you are pretty close though...
why do people leave negative comments? this chap has gone to the trouble of posting a video to help people improve and learn new things. If you don't like it watch something else rather than being rude.
tolinfitz, thanks for this, it sounds great... keep up the good work!
@howardkennedy Thanks man, beggers can't be choosers. People saw my cover of the song and asked how I played it so I made them a video. Comments like those make me not want to post any more instructional videos.
Don't know the piece, but I'm ancient history; you're good, and comment regarding pop/slap...who cares if it sounds good...Bootsy sure didn't! Probably preaching to the converted, but you might check out the track 'Lacquer Head', by Primus. Les Claypool is one innovative character....then search for 'wynona's big brown beaver', by the same.....and weep!
I've been playing along with the song and it seems to be a bit transposed. I played cosmic girl with the same tunning and no prob. Anyone else noticing the same?
great job. you rockin' the house. and thanks for the tutorial session. i don't no why there's 7 dislikes on the voting. j-kays bassist is one of the best i've ever heard and you dude have made him proud ,i'm sure. the slow down was really helpful. peace out.
hey thank you so much for the tutorial i have to learn the song because im gonna play it in a few months, and my techare told to learn it , but im kind of new and i dont know how to get it...so im really thankful
Hey tolinfitz, thx for this nice tutorial. It was really helpful. The first bar of the chorus comes with two different chords. 1.) Bmaj7 and 2) Bb7/D. So your line might be
not 100% correct. It sounds good but I think the last tone is a D. Unfortunately my sound file is not the best but it is woth to check. Please excuse my bad English. I come from Germany. Olli :-)
I just used my mom's digital camera to record all of the videos on my channel so far. I just bought an M-audio Mobilepre USB interface though and a condenser mic. I am still trying to figure out adobe audition 3 and how to do everything. But I am hoping to make my audio with that from here on out and just put it to my video with windows movie maker.
All I gotta say is do not look at my slapping technique for any guidance... I get bashed on by all of the time by people telling me it is wrong. But when it comes down to it. do what is comfortable.
Nicely played! What do you do to damp the second string when you tap the octaves in the verse (e.g. damp the low string when you're snapping the high string and the other way round)? Do you just release the pressure with your left hand?
Pretty clean man!! my slapping sounds dull sometimes cause I'm lazy about changing the strings. But I love the sound of when you've just changed them. Anyway I'll probably try to learn this song to sharpen my bass playing. Thanks for the upload!!
Thanks man! :] hey one tip from one bassist to another. Buying new strings every month gets expensive, go to walmart and buy "Old English wood polish spray" spray it on your somewhat old strings and wipe it down with a rag. it polishes the neck of the bass making it easier to play and makes the strings feel/sound like new.
Thanks for the tip!! you know what I also heard is biol your strings with water and um... i think vinegar, I would look it up before trying it!! I did it about 10 years ago but as far as I can remeber it worked for about a week then they sounded dull again. But I'll try the polish thing!! I'm sure it's good for the neck too.
oh yeah haha well.... its pretty much all in a square of notes up with your index finger on 11th on the G string. Just play around with that square of notes and you'll get most of it.
Hey man,
Pretty awesome (:
How long do you play?

im new at it too. basically, what i learned what works. is like if you are strumming down.
do that with the outside part of your thumb.
rest on the string under. and eventually start flicking your wrist down. u'll get it
