  • To me writer's block is a good block to write on....

  • nobody will ever come close.

  • Peace to the God MC

  • @MrJazzHOP the book "HOW TO RAP" isn't acutally a "how to" book. it's a book that just talks about some of the greatest lyricists, it's more of a history of rapping techniques than an actual manual.

  • Comment removed

  • His flow and word patterns in this joint is so ill.

  • i picked up a dope book

    where the grandmasters of

    emceeing wrote down their techniques

to have them saved... name is -

    ...H'OW ...'TO ... R'AP...

    excellent

boook to see if you a true hiphop head

  • Rakim, Ph.D (Lyricist)

  • top 5 worthy greatest rapper he has similar rapping style to biggie but different flow

  • @jayd4ever Rakim and Big Daddy Kane was Biggie Smalls favorite rappers and influences, so biggie smalls sounded like him because he idolized him.

  • @boystop369 probably was because he aws from the east but biggie never spoke about them so i dont know

  • @jayd4ever There was some interviews i saw on tv when he just started getting famous and he stated that they was his favorite rappers.

  • its the "r" baby!!

  • My Next Door Neighbor Listens To Souja Boy. Im Still Hopin They Dont Find the Body.

  • prodigy copped his style

  • @boywnderr technically any mc that uses flow copied Rakim's style lol

  • I'm surprised Busta Rhymes and Reggie Noble a.k.a. Redman is not up on somebody's list. Whoever mentioned AZ they know lil more than the average cat about real "hustle & flow"...........hint- he ghostwriters for your favorite rappers out today.

  • at :51 when that beat dropped it sent chills up my spine! his line "timbs brown no hat/ jim brown throwback/ walk the deadliest streets in town wit no gat" was crazy and sounded good o the beat. i wish they played stuff like this on the radio instead of all this garbage.

  • WORD!!!!

  • I hate to say it, but to the dude who said "never a letdown" - have you heard Ra's latest album? It was not good. At all.

  • @MrFrankolicious If he was rappin like this on the album it would be dope.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrFrankolicious Fuck You.

  • oh my god never a let down...

  • The God Rakim Allah is the lyrical master!

  • Rakim {THE GOD} Why?... in his own words.. "When the topic is topic-less, than I'm writing the APOCALYPSE"... Nuff Said!!

Nas {GOD'S SON} Why?... in his own words.. "Before the christ after the death the last one left"... Nuff Said!!

Rakim and Nas are surpass any rapper in the hip hop industry those lyrics prove it. Just ask Jay Z how that burnt felt after ETHER! Yet a lot of people out their don't know, all they know is brainwashing, bubble gum, club bullshit RADIO PLAY HITS!

  • Ain't no question this man is a god mc...

  • PEACE TO RARENATURE................

  • PEACE TO THE GODZ! I SHOOK ALLAH's HAND. THIS IS ONE OF THE HOTTEST JOINTZ FREESTYLE WIZE EVA...........

  • @3303milehigh STFU ... You crazy ? Pac looked up to Rakim .

  • PEACE TO ALLAH!

  • I love Rah from the beginning, (My all time Favorite) but this new album is real wack! Sorry to say. Wish he would rhyme to those ill break beats again because his lastest sound makes him stoop down to the level of his production & he sounds just as weak as his beats. I am a believer that no matter how ill an emcee is when their beats are wack their output naturally drops & they become mediocre on that track, trust me I've seen it happen to every dope artist from the golden era!

  • lyrics 4 days

  • 3303milehigh ur probly sum dumbass from Denver dat dnt kno shit about DA GOD EMCEE RAKIM..... R.I.P. 2 TUPAC but he'd ride on yo ass 4 disrespectin DA R like dat!

  • can sum1 tell me what beat this is?

  • this beat is sweet as life

  • this man is flawless

  • that flow shoulda been the first song on The Seventh Seal album

  • that was nasty ..god i hope that be on his cd

  • gosh his flow iss soo nice :)

  • The GOD MC!

  • lyricist 5

    Rakim Allah

    GZA

    Raekwon

    Nas

    The Rebel INS/Canibus

  • ra the rugged man?

  • When is he putting out an album?

That beat he was flowin-on was hard and ol skool style, beats today don't bang like those anymore....

  • Album drops October 20, 2009. So close!

  • hes not a legend because he's in the game for so long, he is a legend because his flow/lyrics/realness couldn't/can't be touched and if people keep promoting him he will live on forever. amen.

  • I could rewind this all day. Rakim's lyrics are like scripture. If Rakim is not your favorite emcee, then he is your favorite emcee's favorite emcee.

  • Hey youngins....stop confusing lyracists and battle rappers....

Ain't a man on this earth that can touch Rakim when it comes to puttin' the pen to the paper....Rakim's not a battle rapper and I think he would agree....but if you need a verse.....he's the GOD!

  • first off, #1 is GZA

  • nah nigga, Rakim is #1. GZA will say that

  • mister kobe.. you got one ugly top ten.. that shit is more beat up than rihanna

  • 1) Rakim 2) Nas 3) Big Pun 4) Big L 5) Big Daddy Kane 6) Slick Rick 7) KRS-One 8) Kool G Rap 9) Reakwon 10) Notorious B.I.G Them rappers on my list are the best, ain't 'em. Do u feel me on this one
  • RAKIM

  • there is no-one that can touch rakim!!! Period!!!! doom and eminem even said that rakim is there inspiration.. aint no way DOOM is better than Ra...

  • Danm strait. Doom aint better and eminem even stole a couple of lines from The God. "the R the A to the K I M/ if I wasn't, then why would I say I am"

  • Nas did the same thing in Your the man. "Im the N A to the S I R, if i wasnt, i must've been escobar"

  • is that zaakir i hear in that song at the end? i thought it sounded like the peter piper beat from run dmc a bit. Can somebody please tell me what song it is?

  • the god

  • Rakim is number one , no discussion. No "what about so and so". THere is no "wait what about so and so". Hes number one. listen to lyrics of fury. that was a freestyle turned into a song

  • that first rap was fukin amazing rakim is still not at the forefront of my mind when i list top rappers or artists but i respect his legacy and maybe the new album will make me go back and chek out everything

  • then who is

  • eminem, DOOM, nas, common, mos def, talib kweli, gza, black thought, pharoahe monch, lupe, budden, ll cool j, vinnie paz. i aint saying rakim aint good jus aint got round to him yet ohh and krs one and b real, whos ur top players in the game

  • alot of who u said...except i wouldnt put joe budden vinnie paz common or even early ll cool j. eminem maybe but krs one is definitely not btter than rakim. on top of that i would put manchild from mars ill...and myself haha jk

  • nah im not sayin ne one is better than rakim kos i kow hes legend and a very good lyricist, but eminem and DOOM i think are best ever, i dont even rate tupac or biggie that high and i aint got into big l yet either, but i think paz common are better and ll cool j is there jus for pure legendary status, but i will get round to rakim once im past my dillaDOOM phase oh ans eminem

  • know this youngster... all those great emcees you just named....got inspiration from rakim!!!! he's the alpha and omega of any cat that calls themselves lyrical!!! nuf said!!!!!!

  • right ok old guy, i aint never said they didnt get inspiration from him. i dont know why u saying this to me, and plus krs one was doing the whole concious lyricism thing to back then so he aint the only one to start it, any way, i like rakim and i will get to him

  • yes krs was concious back then and still is. Rakim was never a concious emcee. his lyrical charisma made him seem like one but he was just as gutta as the next cat. He just freaked it in a way where the masses payed attention to him (no homo)

  • Ofcourse Rakim was conscious but alot of his meanings were hidden.

  • well he isa concious rapper i think, depends on ur definition of it, but i think he talks about the street dont make him gangsta he tell about the problems and wat shud hapen to get away from it as far as i can see but i aint an authority on him, he is some rapper one of the best, but i aint got all his album yet or nufin

  • exactly, man. It truly takes time to really appreciate how his style of rhyme has open doors for EVERYBODY else's style of rhyme in hip-hop.

  • yea rakim u talking bout, i got the paid in full album and he isa monster on that but i will get his albums i would already bea fan via dre if he done the aftermath record

  • That Realness

    Rakim Untouched

  • Dont sweat the technique !!!!!

  • Rakim, simply the greatest

if you don't believe me ask your favourite rapper who's the greatest

  • alot of base

  • "for me, writer's block is a good block to write on"

    G.O.A.T. NIGGAZZZ

  • Ya'll seeds need to fuckin learn that theres a difference between your fav rapper and the greatest rapper. Pac can be your fav and thats cool. However, Rakim is the greatest and thats been a fact since he told ya'll " I aint no joke". Besides the God Rakim could straight demolish a cat without any purfanity lol. Peace God.

  • the best that ever did it hands down

  • Line up the top 10 "rappers" right now....and Rakim will give them the FUCKIN business.....Real Talk

  • god damn hes dope

  • if he's not your favorite rapper he's your favorite rapper's favorite rapper

  • He's my favorite rapper but you got a point

  • "hotter than cayenne spit fire when the mic on and to me writer's block is a good block to write on"

I got two words .. THE GOD

  • did that line give you chills too

  • dam right!!!

  • This was written. I heard it before on another one of his joints. But it still go hard.

  • no it wasnt. none of his songs got this. i have all his songs. every single one.

  • so what if it was written-this doesnt say 'off the dome freestyle'.

  • FUCK BITCH ASS 2PAC

HE'S the only cat with a weak flow

  • no need for that at all. Pac was cool, Rakim was 10X better. no need to diss either.

  • why not

all them pac stans diss the great MC's whn they say pac is the best ever bullshit

  • fuck the 2pac stans. they're almost as bad as Lil Wayne stans. however, unlike Wayne, Pac was at least decent. besides, WTF do his stans have to do with him. 2pac constantly paid homage to Rakim. i'm only 20. i got put on to Rakim BECAUSE OF 2pac and his constant praise of Rakim, whom he regarded as 10X better than him (unlike these new guys who claim to be the "best rapper alive"). don't say fuck Pac because his stans are wack, because the artist himself never associated with his stans.

  • no you ere WRONG nothing is worse than a pac stan NOTHING..

sucks that you were into pac fist

    and rakim is 100x BETTER

so fuck pac with his weak wordplya

  • have u ever met a Lil Wayne stan? and what is wrong with me having been a huge Pac fan leading me to Rakim and others? i still like Pac BTW but hes way lower on my list (top 15 or 25 somewhere). he does deserve that though. it wasnt about his wordplay but his truthful message. sure artists like Common can do both but you seem to be under the delusion that you NEED wordplay to be a hip hop artist. on the contrary Lil Wayne has wordplay for days but it doesnt change the fact that hes wack as fuck.

  • i can change lil waynes's stans way of thinking

pac stans are pathetic, they think pac is god

when he's just a bum in this shit.. and that shows that you were one of those satns, thats why its bad, the first time i heard pac i was like, lol this guy is not that special many other artist do it better, and i couldn't care less bout wayne,

  • how the fuck are you going to call me a Pac stan? i liked Pac a lot back then because i knew very little about hip hop, but 1. i never pushed my opinions about Pac on anyone who wasn't being a total overboard dickhead like yourself and 2. i grew out of it. how was i a Pac stan?

  • Yeah but Wayne's wordplay is wack half the time. I never really got what the big deal about Pac was.

  • ??? yeah, i know. Wayne fucking sucks. where did you read me stating that Wayne was good. i don't see the big deal about Pac either.

  • pac had a poetic side and a thug side which made him a king on the mic im not saying you have to like him but give him respect

  • pac was from the east tho

  • so what does that have to do with anything

  • and on another note, every Wayne stan i've come across has thought Wayne was God too, only worse than the Pac stans, and i can't even try to change their opinion or else i become a "hater." Pac stans rarely, or at least a lot less than Wayne stans, throw the hater card out there. besides, at least 2pac says shit some people can relate to. Wayne says some of the dumbest shit i've ever heard in every track and calls HIMSELF the best rapper alive. Pac never did that.

  • pac fans want to kill me

they want to kill my family

they call me a crack head

they say they going to rape my mom lol

they say i'm the only person that doesnt like pac, they say they want to know were i live so they can come kill me lol

they say he is the best and when i say RA is better, they say rakim is trash, trash????? what the fuck!!!!, belive me you dont know pac satns lol they the fuckin dumbest! brainless muthafuckers fo real, lol

  • i've seen those types of comments from Pac stans. i've seen worse from Wayne stans. it is the way you deal with them, not them alone. i have talked to many openly about my opinions and worded it differently and most of them don't get hostile. of course there are the TRUE stans that, no matter what you say, they are right and want to kill you. on the other side of the coin, there are the haters; the people who will talk shit about an artist no matter what...

  • i truly dont believe that wayne fans are worse than pac's

belive me its not the same

and i forgot to mention, of course not all pac fans are like that

  • see, but you act like they are.

  • i hate using either term, but there are these kinds of people. i don't want to, but i am on the border of classifying you as a hater, and as i said, i despise that term. just chill a bit. i despise Lil Wayne's music, but it is because he is constantly saying dumb shit and i openly admit it when i like a Lil Wayne song (i so far like about 5), but i get wrongfully classified a hater when i am only being honest. point is, you are far from a stan, but make sure not to be a hater either. be honest.

  • i like about 30 wayne songs

but pac songs damn, i just dont like the guy, i just dont understand what's so special about him, he's a fuckin joke in my eyes,

but i dont think i hate him cause i truly dont, i hate the stans, i can safely say the only rapper i hate is the game, lol i hate the guy 100 tymes more than i hate soljaboy, hell i dont even hate soljaboy, i dont even pay atectino to him, well fuck this i'm never going o like pac.

  • thats understandable. ill never like Wayne myself. the thing i hate so much about him is 4m a writing standpoint. yes hip hop artists in general use poor syntax but there is a way 2 rite a hip hop trak 2 make it in a weird way well written. Nas has it Ra has it and yes even pac had it. Wayne just rites so poorly that it screws shit up. theres a rite way and a rong way 2 rite a meta4. saying "i'm a sinus minus the nose/i'm a cold" is the wrong way to say you're ill. that's just plain bad writing.

  • i get you

  • lvs i feel u man pac was ight people act like he flowed with mad heat to me pig pun big l shyhiem raekwon ghost face methman laid it down way better than pac. pac was just one of them niggaz that i guess related to some street niggaz hearts

  • no doubt!!!! pac was the faceperson for the west. before him, outside of ice cube, no one from the west had lyrical dominance that the east respected...

  • when u like music from Wayne and Souljaboy, u don't know the meanin of hip-hip and rap, cause them suckers are both wack

  • This Hip Hop along wit mos def

  • My man RA is pure hip hop, still fresh still dope. Mad props

  • what is that beat

  • Rakim definatley knows what he is talking about.

Know what you're listening to, don't just like because other people like it.

  • Rakim definatley knows what he is talking about.

Know what you're listening to, don't just like because other people like it.

  • The One and Only...Rakim...The God!!!

  • Anybody who denies that Rakim is the greatest is a fool, period. If I ask any 'average joe' on the street to rap for me, he'd rap 'like' Rakim. Thats right there exemplify's Rakim influence on the world and the art of rhyming. Pay homage to the GOD and keep it movin.

  • word to god!!!!!!

  • Rakim is originally from Brooklyn then his family moved to Long Island, he also had a crib in manhattan too, so dont speak unless you know his foundation of his life. It aint where you from, "but where you at mentally" in your thought process and Eye-Que.

  • Come'on Lord, where you getting this info that Rakim is originally from BK? Rakim is from Long Island man. You guys are nuts man. I'll put babys new shoes on that man.

  • correction.. Rakim The God from the BRONX. boogiedown town

  • What are you smoking? Rakim is from L.I.

  • yeah smoking that real kush in la la land, you should try this shit here, its da bomb get you hook'd. lol real talk he was born in LI but I heard him claim the Bronx where he learn his street science from. I may be wrong. jus sayin!

  • he says he's from Long Island.

  • he is

  • long island man

  • Its not where you come from its what you do in the booth, on stage, and of the top. Anyone who doubts the true skill and talent of the all time greatest MC, and i mean MC not a ring tone rapper going for one big hit. He was there at the beginning and he is here now we all ow something to this man whether you like the radio play crap or the true musical poetry. Nether would be alive without Rakim.

  • He's from uptown

  • uptown where? Harlem? Rakim is from Long Island, thats like 40 miles away

  • are you high??? for real are you high??

Rakim is the supreme all time god emcee, and you talkin like you can even stand on the same stage with him let alone rhyme even 1 percent as dope as the 18th letter!! lmbao you'se a clown!!

  • rakim is from strong island stop trynna act hard....

  • strong island is slang for long island man.

lol, but at least i know you listen to some of his lyrics now.

  • rakim is from nyc moron

  • Nah man, Rakim is from Long Island.

  • Rakim is from wyndachne Long Island. lol

  • STRONG

  • keep yo third eye on

  • What the fuck is problem 3303milehigh? How you going to disrespect the GOD Rakim Mfucka are you stupid get the fuck out here with that punk ass comment!

  • Rakim the legend. one of the best rappers(and still) from the golden era of hip-hop.

  • What are you talking about 3303milehigh? If 2pac was still alive Rakim wouldve killed him. Nobody and I mean nobody cant fuck with RaKING. Its good for you health, Rakim the god.

  • rakim is simply a monster on the open-mic,he's the very best bar none, his flow and lyric's are simply unmatched period.!.Da_Super_Raw

  • im not gonna take anything you say about hip hop legitimately when youve been watchin UFO recovery videos you bubble gum rap listenin muhfucka...oh yeah and get your pac story correct before you step, kid. im from tx and can count more flaws in your shit

  • Rakim is disgusting. Nobody can fuck with the God.

  • umm tupac admits rakim is better then him on 2 of his tracks :/ and he respects ra so shutup....retard...

  • 3303milehigh you dont know shit. You a TV, video watching, hip hop mag reading faggot. You don't know Pac, Big, Puff or none of dem nigga personnaly so dont speak upon they affairs. They dont giva fuk about you, nor does the West Coast.

  • You're a fuckin idiot. Dont knock it cuz you cant relate to intelligent, complex rhyming. You probly aint puttin in work anyway, so you probly cant even relate to most of Pac's shit. You just wish you could relate. Shit Pac couldnt even relate to his own shit. He wasnt hard as he portrayed himself to be.

It must suck to be as dumb as you..

  • lol I wonder if u really believe the bullshit u saying bitch and u callin me a whiteboy is like you calling yourself a g lol it's ridiculous and o yea I aint gon dis the west coast I aint never been to the there so I can't really say shit about there but I no the EAST COAST is not to fuck with and west coast hip hop will always be 2nd and yall just bitchin about it so stop crying bitch :') EAST COOOAST

  • get da fuck out of here bitch 2pac? 2pac aint shit compared to rakim 2pac is a bitch that betrayed his coast and also a rapper that never used any punchlines and had lame lyrics rakim is the g.o.a.t

  • milehigh cocksucker, go read a fucking hip hop book rakim is hailed as god you fucken herb, tupac was sick, but rakim cant be touched

  • Hey will the owner of this video delete "3303milehigh" comments for disrespecting the GOD.

  • nwa originated nothing they stole the gangsta shit from philadelphias schoolly d. RAKIM IS STILL NUMBER 1. NO COMPETITION

  • To be honest....He didnt get to prove himself altough his "No One Can Do It Better" album is 5 Mic (The Source), and I'm not really into the West coast thing, Just a few NWA (Just because they originated the Shit), Compton's Most Wanted......The D.O.C - Obviously from Texas and moved to LA, I Strongly agree with most of your top 10 list, But i could'nt possibly but them in an Order, All of them have there Weak points and Strong points.....

  • oh my god! i almost forgot kool g rap.

  • Yeah Em, and Nas are gifted, but one thing that the "new school" rappers have as a tremendous advantage is multiple producers. They can hook up with Dre, Timbaland, and the hottest new producers to virtually guarantee hit songs. Many "old school" artists had usually one primary producer i.e. Rakim/Eric B., Chuck D./Bomb Squad. As a result, when their producers "sound" got stale, the rapper suffered. Today all a rapper has to do is hook up with the "in producer" and they can remain contemporary.

  • Rakim did the beat like mike tyson did the punching bag.

  • "and to me writer's block is a good block to write on" RA WILL NEVER LOSE HIS SKILL!!! he seems to just get better with age.

  • I respect Rakim a lot, but I'll have to say Eminem is the only MC better than Rakim. Eminem is the best MC to have ever lived. Rakim and Canibus come in as close seconds. After these 3 giants comes the rest of the pack. These 3 dudes are head and shoulders above everyone else. By the way, Rakim himself acknowledges that Em is a great MC.

  • fucking crazy mad ppl i mean mad ppl are better then em u need to see some oringnators of rap and u cant say he's the best out rite now either cause saigon is new and hes better papoose is ill too and of course dead prez and canibus are mad ill dont forget ras kass
