love your use of hardware man ...so bored of making music on software at the moment. keep up the good work. and let me stay at your house i want to live in tokyo.
Is it a Roland MC505 if i may ask? I had one my self but it was some years ago. I was never as good as you using its full potential and bought my self more conventional synthesizers. (Full size keyboards with NO built in sequencers. It was the built in sequencer that made me go nuts when i tried to compose music with the MC505) It good to see someone make that mashine shine :)
3:20 and from that is completely wicked. Funky, As i said, i really like it :)
@Jasminewynja I don't use a 505 in this track. I started making music with an MC-505 but grew out of it because the sound quality was pretty bad. The 505 is good for SEQUENCING, but not so much for the internal sounds. The one in the video is similar to the 505, it's a Yamaha RS7000....much better, actually. If you like composing/performing music with hardware, then the RS7000 is the best MIDI sequencer, in my opinion. Thank you for your support!
@snorkmaiden24 There is no "right" or "wrong" way to make music. There are things that work well in certain situations, though. At the most basic level, any song with notes in it (as opposed to only drums) should be in a "key" (Am, C, F#, etc). I would suggest reading about chord progressions (I, IV, VIIm) and learning how they sound. Then try chord progressions out until you like something. If you keep doing this, you can begin to hear things in your mind and then know how to play them.
@snorkmaiden24 Now, for me personally, writing a song usually happens in one of two ways. One: I hear a lead melody or bass melody in my head and I sit down and build a song around it. Two: I sit and go through different sounds on my Korg synth and play chords that I think sound good, then build a song around that. Building a song, for me, means coming up with a 3 or 4 chord progression and a melody and bassline. The arrangement (intro, buildup, breakdown)comes last, I prefer doing that live
@snorkmaiden24 To answer your question: No, I don't think about the "music theory" stuff first. I think MELODY & RHYTHMIC FEEL first. Then music theory knowledge helps me to take that melody and add chords, bass, etc. You shouldn't have to "think" about anything. Practice playing the keyboard/guitar until you can play what is in your head/heart. Then use arrangement (32 bar intro, breakdown, buildup, blah blah) to make a nice home for your melody. Melody can also mean a "sound sequence" btw.
@snorkmaiden24 With respect to house music it is all in 4/4 timing and that is a very standard time signature...key signatures and stuff are important if you want to be correct in the music theory aspect of the song...but really most people i know these days producing music do not have music theory backgrounds and are just going on gut feeling when writing songs.
fuck!i send u a commentary but it didn't accept, i don't know why....whatever, i was saying u did an amazing job brow!real real well done!even if it isn't exactly the kind of music i usually like, but u rock brow!!!keep on showin' us videos "perché spacchi fratello!!!!!!!!!!!!".i've a korg esx too, i do hip hop and tekno (hardtek, teknotribe, frenchcore), take a look....bye brow!
One of your best videos, even if I'm not a fan of the 4 on the floor dance rhythm. The synths and overall groovy feel more than make up for it. Excellent work.
one word : WOW! Ur sence of tune is dope. ur da best ive heard so far and problly the best i'll ever here. the way u use those pitches just makes me wanna jump up and start dancing! u should get a record deal! ... if u havent allready.
The problem with this sort of music is that no record company will approach you. Ever!! You either have to champion your own sound and release it yourself on your own label or write tracks to fit in with another labels sound. Thats how it is.
Mr Droid. Have you considered setting up your own label? You have plenty of fans here on youtube alone who would buy your records. Make yourself available on Beatport and you got it made.
I appreciate the advice and encouragement. I can never refuse good coaching. Thanks! Yeah, I'm getting closer to setting up my own label. If forced to choose between one or the other, is releasing tracks or networking more conducive to getting booked?
you definitely are better off networking to get booked and signed. i would reccomend going to the wmc in miami. so many industry insiders and heads from all around the world go there. i furthered my own career more after a week in miami than a year hyping my stuff up in arizona and cali. i go there every year and meet more and more people. anyways just some food for thought. all the best wishes to you man i hope you blow up, i'll definitely be watching. peaceandbless
I agree with you. I should say "my financial goal is to make money performing" but my musical goal is just to make funky electronic music...and that comes first!
Well you have already achieved your musical goal. All of youtube would agree with me. Have you considered touring? I know you live in Japan but I can assure you that you would go down a storm in London doing the club circuit. Have you got a manager?
I would love to tour...that would be the thrill of a lifetime. At the moment, no manager. I'm looking for an English speaking manager/agent who is familiar with the club/electronic music scene.
I'm not really into the electro 'scene', but all the musician friends I've shown your videos to were enthusiastic. I guess I could help you find some contacts here in France tho - if you ever consider coming to Europe. I'd love to see you perform live :-) PM me !
I was born in the United States but immediately after college moved to Tokyo to participate in the techno/art scene there. So far it has been going fairly, but I would like to perform more often.
Holy shit. There are no words....this is just amazing man. I am ever more impressed at the sound you are managing to get out of your boxes - this sounds like a fully produced, sequenced track and it is being played...completely live! Keep up the great work. What kind of filter are you using on the lead from the Radius? I love that Daft Punky sound! Looking forward to more! :)
Thank you so much! The lead sound from the Radias is not being filtered actually. The sound uses oscillator sync and pitch of the second (synced) oscillator is being swept.
Mr Droid, you are a legend. I always wondered how they got that tasty noise, and the answer has been sitting right in front of me all along! Cheers man. :)
Thanks! I am totally into the Radias. It's quite powerful and flexible>>and each of the 4 channels has FX, so I've been compressing everything and getting that Daft Punky punch. I like Nords alot, but the one I would want (G2 rackmount) is already covered by the Korg. Actually, the Radias is replacing a Nord Micro Modular...and it does a pretty good job at it.

do you have to think about key signatures and song structure before you come up with a tune
