@toadecks, no, I think if you look at the video a little closer you will see the wheels spinning. If this doesn't convince you, how about at 0:11? I'm just wondering what year Defenders were given traction control? As I know the new Discovery's have it.
@kaosobsidian was it fuck i have a series 3 nd that was 1983 theres no way they were making basic design then they where working on other ideas like the disco nd rangerover
The Defender is the product of continued development of the Land Rover Series 1, launched in 1948, The vehicle continued under the name "Series 1 or Series 2" etc, until 1983, when it was changed to the Land Rover Ninety, or Land Rover One Ten, this continued until 1990, when the Defender name was adopted, models then became Defender 90, Defender 110 or Defender 130. The same basic design of what we now know as Defender, has been around since 1948, making it 50 years old past 2008.
I agree, silver has been done to death! If I see another silver RR sport it will be too soon. still Guy Salmon Kingston have sprayed an SVX tangier orange and put g4 stickers on it, brave and hope the dealer who decided to do this will not live to rgeret it, seems they could not sell the black one!
i had t 90 in the anaversary green and everyone took the piss sayin it was a gay colour!! so i painted it black due to being called the turqoise truck!!
Think you might regret that longer term as the value will be wrecked now, keeping it original would have made it rare and those calling you names should have been ignored, frankly I would have had the backbone to tell them go paint your own truck chavvie black mine's an original and proud!
nahh mine was a dark factory green then some twat painted it the gay colour. how can you say its chavvy? mine is matt black, cant get meaner and more evil! i dont like driving round and people thinking im a gay. oyu must like it when blokes look at you and blow you kisses.
well you can be excused your fear of the gay brand with matt black, but had you turned up in a metalic black Range Rover or a sport then I'm affraid the Burberry check would soon be following along. I have to say Eastnor green with my old barbour and scruffy terrier have not really generated to many air kisses, still a brief glance usually tells most people I'm not a Graham Norton fan! Your matt black isnt parked on the road in Leatherhead is it see that most days does look mean!
mate a pink 90 wouldn't be gay! Were you driving it AND wearing a turtle neck when they blew those kisses? Just kidding, i'd swap my green disco for a pink 90 though and it wouldn't bother me if i copped sh!t for it either!
Decent vid, and I do like these 4x4's, how does the diesel version compare power wise as in power to get you out of all kinds of shit?
Also when watching these vehicles do their stuff off road, just how deep in the water can they go before it al starts coming in the cab, as you can guess I am new to this.
A Td5 compares well with the V8 power-wise, specially with a little tuning.
The water starts to come in as soon as the bottom of the door goes under water, (crap seals,) but then it pours out again just as quickly, having said that, I've been in deep water up to the door handles in mine and only got my feet a little bit wet!!
Is that on stock suspension or have you done something to it? These had front and rear anti-roll (anti-sway) bars in the UK and this looks like it has more travel.
Love the cross-axle would like to show it to my trainees
diff lock was selected:) Note that 1 front wheel and 1 back wheel are rotating. This situation is known a cross axled, and a centre diff lock won't help. He would have needed a push out of that. Nice ride.
This is the perfect situation were a Mercedes Gelandwagen just locks the center diff and either the rear axle or rear and front axle lockers. A G NEVER GETS CROSS AXLED like a Defender.
1990s landys onwards have ETC. Must have it turned off. Nothing beats a real locker anyway. The Gelandewagen sure is ugly but the 470hp v8 sure would be sweet.
It seems you are right. You would think that with ABS all way round they could incorporate ETC using the brakes as they do with the Rangies and Discos. I guess it is just more crap to go wrong if you are hardcoring it. I had an old series 3 with a detroit in the back. It was ridiculously slow but would embarrass most modern 4wds even with its leave springs and all. Also I really think that some around here have no idea what a centre diff lock is.
@pooperscooper71 centre diff lock = handbrake :p ive got a series 3 with a 6 cylinder 202cu chevy high comp mota, and it regularly embarresses the modern 4wds, i've pulled out hiluxes, jeeps, suzukis, nissans you name it... they cringe as i fly at a cliff their front tyres cant even touch and claw my way to the top :) only problem ive had in 10 years is two broken axles, rear right and front left (blame the latter on big fat tyres.......)
Because Mercs are useless junk, the Germans like to tell people how good their kit is, but its not! Just like the VW advert, wish everything was as reliable as a VW, well our work golfs are junk and unreliable after low miles, LR if serviced and looked after are fine, people just expect too much and harsh if anything does go wrong because LR has a higher benchmark, Merc offroad please its too funny!
Moncky170dick is perfect name for you your G-wagon wouldn't even make it through those woop to woops, the gWagon is shit on wheels, it's for wannabe's and grocecery getters. Suck it Monkydick!! You don't have a clue! It's built on a car platform for God's sake! I could go on but what's the point???
You got some A/T tyres on there, when doing that sprt of stuff, id reconmend some M/T's Give me a shout if you are looking for a set there, youll do that cource with time to spare then ;)
firstly Defender is A class and then some, you wonder why the US specailforces use defender instead of hummers. also you should have used an '=' not a > you are saying its no g class
lensen639, I do not agree. I bet I will drive with my Mercedes G Wagon, european version with short wheelbase, much further then the Land Rover. But... I like this V8 Defender with auto trans!

50th Version looks good, shame the 60th SVX was in black, would have been better in Galway Green or Stornaway Grey, black was far too urban!

it would indeed, although I like Eastnor green myself. Balmoral green might be useful as the Royals have their cars this colour
