  • i would love to have this with melon bread

  • My mom made this for me and herself. And we sat in her huge bed and just watched TV at 10:30 pm. It brought me back to being a kid. I miss my days being a kid.

  • Are those actually her kids?? They look anorexic D:

  • @burtv1610 Lots of kids are skinny around that age, my brother eats SO MUCH, but he's about their size! The weight starts to come on as you grow up :)

  • i ate with milk and bread when i was young id just get a cup of milk (warm) and dip the bread in

  • i love it! i've been indulging on milk/chocolate milk and bread since I was a kid :)

  • I love nigella but i don't think this is something i would eat :S i mean soggy bread in milk ? ew

  • Can U use wholemeal bread?

  • @emacwakeup what do you think?

  • I used to eat this as a kid. Wow really brought out the memories. I had totally forgotten about it.

  • a better way to do this is with hot chocolate.....it is so much better!!!! there is like no flavor in the one she is making...

  • Well, this is what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow. Not out of choice, it's just all I have is a pint of milk and half a loaf of stale bread. Google saves me from starving once again.

  • einfach super finde ich nigella habe schon viele sachen nach gekocht klasse.lg bea

  • @wtf118

I want to try your weed sugar!

  • For some reason I don't find this appealing. Soggy bread with sugar? Puts me off.

I'd love to do the Choco Pots and try it with white chocolate and raspberries. c

  • I didn't think this would be nice, but I had faith in Nigella, and it was gorgeous! <3

  • if i was in the bed with her i would probably have a raging hard on!

if she really wants to sleep she should try my weed sugar.

  • i actually made this with saffron syrup.. went straight to sleep after it and had the weirdest dreams!

  • @Jonohobs

    Agreed. She's got a horse's appetite! : D

  • Made this....very heavy indeed : /

  • 1:41 "It is really really nice, mum" as secretly she holds a shot gun to his head

  • @ClonedRoboticSheep

    "Oh, good."

  • I misread the title as "breast and milk"

  • I'm portuguese, and in here that's the more basic thing ever to have for breakfast. I don't know a single person who hasn't eaten this. We call it «milk soup» :D

  • @EilanthaLeFay olá! sei do q falas.. :-) a minha mae come disto mas o leite leva café ou chocolate.. eu odeio!!

  • yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk

  • Just tried it. Was pretty heavy... And nasty.

  • I made this today, it was really yummy :)

  • this food is too simple to be of any particular cuisine. back in my village days here in India i used to see the house woman give this type of food to ther kids as its easy to eat etc. n most of those women i doubt have ever heard of italy itself

  • her daughter is soooooooooooo skinny!

  • It taste so weird!!!

  • I've just tried this for breakfast this morning, just that I've replaced the sugar with vanilla crumbs, and it's really comforting, much more than I've expected. I wonder if it's the warmth and the smell of the milk, or is it the cottony softness of the bread, but it really does instill a sense of calm... very good in restoring the sense of balance on one of those mornings where you feel like you've woken up on the wrong side of the bed. :)

  • I'm italian and i've never eaten it...but it seems good!

  • It took me a long time to try it, but when I did...it was really good! I changed it around though by heating light soy milk (because this is the only milk I have in the house, although I'm sure that it would be just as good with regular milk), a little honey and a dash of salt. Then right before I poured it on the bread, I added some vanilla extract. It was so comforting!

  • Ha, that's an Italian treat. I have seen old Italian men make that but they would pour a little Whiskey in it also.

  • She dipped the strawberry into the chocolate. I thought melted chocolate freezes in the fridge??

  • @Lynkz if you look closly, its carmel sauce

  • I used to have this all the time when I was a kid :)

  • "It's cozy isn't it" When I heard that, I thought about her son sleeping next to her.

  • Nice. Also a good way to use up slightly stale baguettes

  • I actually did something like this with cake before, except I used cold milk. A very Americanized version lol.

  • Food is comforting and when you eat it more you become very fat!!

  • "It's a Proustian moment for me." Sold!

  • Nigella Feasts Larson...to me you look like round comfort food Goddess...and who not the indulge your comforts....makes a man really need grow to the wonderful occasion!!!...those Breasts and Milk recipes.....what a amazing... luscious woman you are just amazing!!!!! Oh MerCY Me!

  • i love nigella's sly dig at her mother

"it is so comforting for me because this was my mother's favourite meal when she felt tired or stressed, which was often"

  • It might not look the most appetizing but seriously try it. Its classic comfort food, really tasty.

You could try cinnamon or vanilla extract and even lemon in the milk ;)

  • @babycrisyangel wouldnt lemon curdle the milk :S

  • he might mean lemon extract... i think.

  • @Lithys it would still curdle cos of the alchohol in the extract.

  • @LalaChick30 Not quite. It would curdle due to the acidity of the lemon flavoring. Most extracts are made with alcohol. You can find some without but a majority of extracts have alcohol. Alcohol and dairy actually doesn't curdle, at least not in average every day uses. Alcohol can be both basic and acidic, due to its chemical make structure. Think of it as water.

  • could atleast put a banana in it.

  • @mrjules2008 i'd stick my banana in it any day !!!

  • Lol, Mimi didn't look too sure if she liked it or not...

  • her son looks like elijah wood

  • the killers sugar bread and milk you need some pork too

  • well, in the south we eat left over cornbread, with buttermilk poured over it. it isn't sweet though. every once in a while, i take left over cornbread(not sweet---never sweet), warm it up in the microwave and pour buttermilk over it. looks nasty, but it is good.

  • why not just make french toast if you're going to soak bread in milk

  • Yeah, the bread soaked in milk almost makes me sick, but I think it has to do with culture though, and what you are or are not used to.

  • I don't get that at all from this video...

  • i don think its THAT GREAT....sometimes her recipes are just plane bull...i dunno i think only her chocoltae recipes n dessert are gud

  • Tried it. Sadly I didn't like it.

  • Actually it's really nice :) It used to be one of my favourites when I was small and actually my doggie was trying to trade his sausage for a bowl of that every time I had it:) for real... it's great if you're out of cereal for example.. yummy

  • this is pure fuel! :)

  • were you bottle fed?

  • I wouldnt usually expect this of Nigella repertoire

  • This sounds horrible. I can't imagine eating milky bread. I may try it though, it might be pretty good.

  • its good. believe me. i've tried it :)

  • What? Simple can't be good?

  • Simple can definitely be good, but soggy bread and milk doesn't appeal to me. The only thing that makes it sound worthwhile is the added sugar on top.

  • ooo I eat this for a breakfast (sorry for my english) hugs from Poland :) ooo and...I love her

  • I've never done it but it's also my grandmother's favourite meal. There must be something about it.

  • Lucky mom to have :]

  • does it matter what bread you use? or does anyone have a preference?

  • I would use a sweet bread... maybe the King's hawaiian bakery rolls or bread. You don't have to add that much sugar but add a dash of vanilla to the milk and pour over:)

  • Thank you

  • lol i tried this with brown bread and soy milk - DO NOT DO IT.

Haha But I will try it the proper way as she has done it.

Silvali - your're right, not something to have before bed!!!

  • bread and milk??? no thanks. not my cup of tea.

  • its good!! i tried it!

  • It's bread and milk!!!! What's sooooo special about it????

  • lmao

  • Clearly she said comfort foodd. And to be honest it would be the last thing ide think to make. I could go just now and make it no problem :)x

  • this is a "comfort food".

    only that.

    its taste like children times.

  • i tried it, so good! Will try it on the kids soon

  • she is always eating..it goes with her statement

  • and I thought that her Donut French toast was simple enough...!! I am so trying this out today.

  • Congac...

  • this is MUCH nicer with raisin loaf instead of ordinary bread - makes an excellent cheap pudding actually. I tend to add a spoonful of condensed milk to the pot (instead of sprinkling sugar over the bread).

  • Nice recipe!, but can I skipped the bread and replace the milk with brandy instead?

  • I would add a dash of brandy or whisky to the milk.

  • ok I'm off to make some now :p

  • I love that she takes pride in eating..its not a sin to eat! She doesnt care about no eating after 6pm rules..and everything she makes, makes me wanna make it too

  • GROOOOSS wet bread!! wtf

  • some of the best things are often the simplest

  • Beautifully put. =)

  • I have tried this. I used sweet condensed milk instead of sugar and I used fresh whole wheat bread. It taste EXCELLENT! I decide to eat it for breakfast, snacks and mid night snacks.

  • Hey your recipe sounds good. Can you find sweet condensed milk in the store...I've never seen it.

  • You have never seen sweet condensed milk? Are you serious?

  • I went to the store today and I found condensed milk. I remember seeing my Mom bake with sweet condensed milk .You must be in good shape to eat it with condensed milk.

  • @StalwartSpirit Sweetened condensed milk would be too thick and cloying for this sort of preparation. The idea here is to have just slightly sweetened warm milk to pour over the stale bread. This isn't dessert, after all.

  • I have never heard of this. Isn't it a bit bland? needs sprinkle of cinnamon and some raisins

  • You'll be surprised how raisins actually ruin this dish.

  • I'll try it without the raisins then and give it a go.

  • wow thats very tasty and simple. my grandma used to make it:)

  • okkii

    what eva

  • i have that now and then its nice and warm!! but you no what would make it more tastey for me i would get that bread and milk and poor it on her breast & gobbel it up from ther mmmmm nw that sounds nice

  • She is totally sinful. Love her but eating at night is bad for you, isn't she concerned?

  • Ooooo my mom used to make this for me when I was a kid!!!! :) I used to loooove it!! :) Luv my mum! :) :)

  • eating at nite makes u fat ugh she is not fat but pretty thick i wonder if she exercises with all the baking and goodies she makes??

  • her kids are skinny for what she gives them lol

  • omfg i agree hahahahaha

  • my mom used to eat this n i luv it too!!! its amazing!!! make it in advance, let it sit in the fridge overnite...it tastes even better the next day...yummmmzzz!!!!

  • If you let it sit overnight, doesn't it make the bread too soggy? I wonder if you can use a combination of evaporated milk with regular milk.

  • my mother never teach me that way.. but, i tried when i 6 years old. Till today, i still love it. i'm 31 yo, now.

    Love you Nigella. Bravo.

  • my grandfather now 93 used to make it and called it sops he used chilled milk. I have eaten it from time to time and quite like it.

  • think it'd be sooo much nicer with chocolat milk..:) yummm

  • yea!! x]

  • did you try it?

  • no but i bet its just as good--or even better xD i actually might try** tonight ^^ its a blizzard over here so im not sure if i can go get the stuff -.-

  • blizzard? what continent do you live in, indonesia? :p Actually, I havent tried it yet either haha, but it sounds good. plus, all you need is milk, chocolate powder and bread.(in case u didnt know, which i think u do). :p nvm

  • I poured some cold milk straight from the carton ( can't be bothered to turn on the stove at night) and tear pieces of baguette i bought the day before.

And it was sooo nice. :D

  • i like hotdogs but only if u grill it...with ketchup...and mustard...also relish...dr pepper

  • I saw this same segment on lifestyle food channel (Australian cable television) last week, lol how random.

  • I did not have the vanilla sugar so I tried regular sugar. But I think that you should try with pured sugar so that you don't taste the granny of the sugar and its more smooth.

    Try it would be good.

  • I have tried it and its was very good.

  • So have I and I did not like it but my taste is weird ;)

And that's funny she gave bread with milk to the kids and eat strawberrys with toffee sauce by herself xD

  • Lol

  • uwielbiam jej szybkie i proste przepisy

w zasadzie to nieraz jadłam taki chleb na śniadanie jak byłam dzeckiem

  • hmm what kinda milk did she use? any kinda milk that i find off the shelf in supermarkets?

  • best to use creamy milk .. not light milk

  • yes and a day old sourdough bread.

  • What a simple and easy-to-make recipe.

  • amazing genetics...

    her son is cute, very...

  • why?

  • Nigella's food is really good!!

  • Cosima and Bruno

  • Something simple..i like it...

  • "Proustian moment" - just a wee bit pretentious perhaps? :)

  • what ype of bread is that?

  • looks like a roll of normal, everyday bread. but i could be wrong

  • It looks like french bread, maybe a baguette. The crumbly crust is clue. :P

  • And Nigella is comfort food for the eyes! What a lovely creature.

  • I would like to be the Daddy bear!

  • I've just enjoyed a bowl of this :) except with a slice of whole grain sprouted bread and almond milk (a little healthier and low calorie) :P but it was still soft and sweet :) its so simple yet satisfying.. I love nigella's cooking... she's just like me :)

  • Can someone please post Nigella's lime cheesecake.Becuase its deleted

  • wat are her childrens name?

  • Nigella is the best cook.

  • There is a God... her name is Nigella Lawson

  • Yuk! Not my cuppa tea!

  • Nigella rocks.

  • i use to make this all the time, then i tried another way, its always good to be inventive, so i use to rip up hot cross buns and pouron the hot milk the same way, adding some sugar too.

  • just a word of note, you dont have to use hot cross buns any fruit buns, will do plus, naturally they have sugar, the spice and the fruit in them, so all you have to do is pour on the luscious milk lol.

  • What are hot cross buns? are they like hot dog buns? Are you in the UK? What are fruit buns?I am so interested to cook the Bread and Milk recipe. I would like some ideas.

  • hot cross buns are fruit buns, tradionally eaten at easter, more over here though i guess in the UK..but im sure you can get hot cross buns in the US, if not any fruit buns will do..or just follow nigellas recipe...tastes as good lol.

  • Excuse my ignorance but is Bread and Milk a British recipe or has is always been around. It kind of reminds me of my Grandma's Cream toast, boy was that ever so good.

Can you use any bread like Kings Hawaiian sweet rolls or bread?what kind of milk do you use?

  • i think the bread and milk dish came from the old nursery rhyme bread and milk...but then again, bread and milk is the base of bread and butter pudding..i mean bread and butter pudding has been around for centuries.

  • I'm from Guam, my grandmother used to make something like this for breakfast, with hot milk and pan tosta(usually a dessert or sweet bread super toasted, similar in texture to biscotti). As an adult it's one of my favorite comfort foods.

    Nigella's looks just as good.

  • I would Love to give "Mommy bear"

    A big slap,

    On her FOXY DERRIERE!

    LOL

  • I would LOVE TO SEE NIGELLA TAKING OFF THAT SATIN BATHROBE,and after that HAVING a HOT bath!

    UUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH!

  • I wish she could be my mum

  • Dude (jakejudd) i hope u don't have incestual thoughts!

    LOL

  • She is a MILF

  • Fa shizzy!

  • Her son.. my sister thinks that her son is cute ( not in that handsome kind of cute) she thinks he is cute like a baby.. and my sister calls him elf.. =)
