@PietroRumenta I have to side with you on Satriani's tone, it's not to my taste as well, but don't blame the Dimarzio's.. Only a small part of a chain. Also, all the players you mentioned with a 'real' tone use single coils and they don't often decide to endorse Diamrzio but that's more of a humbuckers - single coils debate, I would say..I did like sSatriani's tone on this specific album, though
@PietroRumenta Do your RESEARCH. You have no idea what you're talking about. I'm sorry, but Satch is THE BEST ON THE PLANET. Do your research and THEN comment. Peace.
@capecodnut When someone uses DiMarzio pickups, it means for the 80% of the times that they have horrible sound as those pickups sound like plastic: they're cold, undynamic, static, plate, only a lot of output but no dimension at all, and I could go on and on.
Just think of Steve Vai, Steve Morse and many others who have decided to ruin their beautiful stuff with terrible sounds. Then think of Blackmore, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Hendrix, so on, and their real warm bluesy sounds
Joe satriani is a legend in my books. Deserves way more respect than he gets. Best guitar song writer in my opinion. Such memorable riffs that you can rock out to.
He played Crystal Planet during the Wormhole Tour. And it had the piano intro. It was like a dream come true hearing the beautiful, yet haunting notes of this song live and in person.
It misses something without the dual guitar harmonics. I love this entire DVD, but this song seems somehow deflated without the presence of the twin guitar. I know Eric was pulling double duty for this show, but I almost wish he got on the guitar instead to back Joe up.

I love this song because it's Satch's musical rejoinder to the great shredding songs - Practice What You Preach, the front side of Rust in Peace, etc. This song boldly highlights Satch's strengths as a songwriter - on that dimension, he destroys the thrash classics. On the other hand, he fails to hang with the great thrash solos here.
I just wonder if Satch would have ever become so great if it were not for guitar effects...A lot of his masterpieces don't sound very good without a lot of reverb, tremolo, phaser, noise gate, etc...
@Cajunninja65 he is a great guitarist and alot of what he does is emotional playing. he would be as good of a guitarist today because he started off teaching after he learned to play. he didnt originally use alot of affect, but as ppl copied him he started using them for the most unique tone possible. theres a little history lesson from guitarist to guitarist man, keep rockin!
@Cajunninja65 oh but he is. hes also an absolutely great acoustic player. listen to andalusia for expample. in my opinion, mastering effects takes almost more practicing and musical knowledge as learning to play the instrument itself.
Satriani has some of the best phrasing ever. For a guitarist to incessantly make so many great melodies of such variety for an entire song takes immense talent.
i cant believe how many views this doucher gets. he lacks tone and feel and just plays shit in general, when your ready to see a real guitarist watch me play at watch?v=NIFblN5hgUs

I wish my amp had a satch switch on my vox ad50, I love his tone, but would only use it to emulate or screw around, anyone know if he uses overdrive or distortion? I can probably find out in less time it took me to type this
@MrDeamon1 he has a sig distortion pedal that he uses in addition to a couple vintage ones. its a great pedal and i'd highly reccommend it, called the satchurator ;)

@b0njov1 It's ok mate mate, chill out im just using this site to wipe my arse. I,ve been into Satriani since 1991 so I know what he's about. You sound like my mum....
@weedkilla73 you know whats funny, you + your comment = every joe fan laughing at you right now.
its ironic that music dubbed cocaine fuelled musicality could put a halt on anyones life. cocaine would make them rave up, and not only that if you dont like something then surely you just move onto something you do like, or are you just in denial that joe satriani is awesome. ladies and gents i think we have a closet satriani fan
To add to my last comment, I get so sick of seeing these 'iconic' figures in life. The Joe Satriani's, Kings of Leon, the Brad Pitt's. The talented and famous, the Amy Winehouse's (now sadly rip) pervaiding our lives, my life in all ways every day. The message - talent = fame and money. No talent, less success and more suffering. And this trend runs through all areas of life and at present seems to be fixed and irreversable. It seems unfortunate though...but we all have our own opinions on it
Yeah boys, that's right! Joe Satriani, lets all kiss his mother fuckin' arse! I reckon he gets his inspiration for his songs, not from the divine but from shaggin' his fuckin' wonderful missus. And while most of us live off shit. Oh the injustice! And he looks like a faggart in this video too! Give him 10 years in a prison cell, or 10 years working with the starving in Africa, you might make a man out of him then !!
When I went to the concert during his Black Swans tour, he finished a song and I left the room to go around a get a better look further up stage. The music had stopped for a while and as I was outside and I heard that same beautiful piano intro clearly as day through the walls. I knew what was about to come.

I don't understand why his crowds are never energetic and full of passion...Is it for him to concentrate on his guitar playing?? They look like they never move :/
I have the g3 live in denver audio cd and that includes a live version of crystal planet which is the best one by far in my opinion.Everyone here should listen to it at least once because especially the last few minutes are epicly much better.

I'll have to say Satch has got way more street cred than Vai,in a million yrs i could never see satch playing for the dollar with the likes of Roth or Whitesnake. No disrespect to Vai,just my opinion.
@enos218 I think it was smart for Vai to play with other people, do you know how much he learned from Frank Zappa? Not many people would pass up that opportunity, besides you realize that Joe played with Deep Purple right? You know via has won more awards than Joe? Not exactly sure why but also Vai was nominated for a grammy for the Where the wild things are dvd he made which I just so happened to be in the crowd:) at the recording. Satch is the best but dont dismiss Vai hes a beast as well.
@lookslikeyouhadenuff I agree partly but, surely you must concede that playing for Roth or Whitesnake back in the day, was not the best way to get taken seriously as a musician?I bought Vai's ALS record i think it was his next project after leaving whitesnake,it was like listening to a different guitarist,if i could play like Vai there is no way i would be happy just playing rock pentatonic stuff, not even for the dollars.Just my opinion.BTW Satch and Vai are both cool ppl.
@enos218 I think he did what he had to, I dont blame him for doing what he did but I know he didnt want to dol it. He told satch to avoid taking over someones place in a band if he can. Most great musicians I agree would much rather make music vs playing someone elses tunes.
@enos218 ps yeah both of them are awesome Ive got to talk to them both for a moment, words cant describe how awesome it was even though I know they are mere mortals...well kinda.
It's not a good idea to go to biebers video & click the dislike button cause every time we go to his video he gets payed a few cents cause his vid's sponsered. Instead we pick songs like this & get as many people as we can to watch so by the 1st of march on biebers birthday all rock videos will be most viewed on youtube charts. This will get the younger audience to listen to good music & might have good rock bands form again.PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE! THUMBS UP!
@supertomate64 I'm sick and tired of people talk about how Justin Bieber sucks in every video I watch. I DON'T FUCKING CARE, OK!?
I just want to listen to some real, good music and had enough of that Bieber shit! Shut up about him and let me enjoy this awesome music, played by Stariani, not Bieber. Thank you very much
this man is not from this planet, the sound that begin at 1.23 proves it
VladimirSex1
Dude that is the sound of Frank Marino of Mahogany Rush; 2:30 is derived from Jimi Hendrix, maybe "1983...a Mermaid I should be". Oh heck, now I've got to pull out the original vinyl......you've got a good ear my friend.
Have mercy on the retarded youth of this generation, this man is an original god who now is coppied, if you cant understand the origin of his work youll never get it,the stupidity of this generation is forever amazing, and you wonder how they will ever make it in a power out with out masterbating with there cell phones, this world is done,Gen X yeah your gonna do nothing like you already do keep txting away retards !
@Kashmir70 you can understand a good composition. =) Both here with Joe and through Led Zep. By filling out these requirements you could consider yourself with a Visa to Crystal Planet.
I love how he plays with the part after @4:25 with all those little things here and there but still keeps the "feel" there. what a cool cat.

Not exactly sure why but also Vai was nominated for a grammy for the Where the wild things are dvd he made which I just so happened to be in the crowd:) at the recording. Satch is the best but dont dismiss Vai hes a beast as well.

@lookslikeyouhadenuff I agree partly but, surely you must concede that playing for Roth or Whitesnake back in the day, was not the best way to get taken seriously as a musician?I bought Vai's ALS record i think it was his next project after leaving whitesnake,it was like listening to a different guitarist,if i could play like Vai there is no way i would be happy just playing rock pentatonic stuff, not even for the dollars.Just my opinion.BTW Satch and Vai are both cool ppl.
enos218 8 months ago
@enos218 I think he did what he had to, I dont blame him for doing what he did but I know he didnt want to dol it. He told satch to avoid taking over someones place in a band if he can. Most great musicians I agree would much rather make music vs playing someone elses tunes.

@enos218 ps yeah both of them are awesome Ive got to talk to them both for a moment, words cant describe how awesome it was even though I know they are mere mortals...well kinda.

PLEASE READ!

Thank you very much
Geez...

@jr995 Why are you reading the comments instead of just enjoying the music? That's something Justin Bieber would probably do!

this man is not from this planet, the sound that begin at 1.23 proves it

Dude that is the sound of Frank Marino of Mahogany Rush; 2:30 is derived from Jimi Hendrix, maybe "1983...a Mermaid I should be". Oh heck, now I've got to pull out the original vinyl......you've got a good ear my friend.

@FlavioPiero I've been a huge fan for 25 yrs. This man is a guitar god...a genius. Zeppelin, Satch and an ipod -- my three favorite things.
Kashmir70 10 months ago
@Kashmir70 you can understand a good composition. =) Both here with Joe and through Led Zep. By filling out these requirements you could consider yourself with a Visa to Crystal Planet.

This so kicks ass.. those 47 people who think that music with out voice are nuts. Its about the guitar not the voice that makes so good.
