I think there is one simple solution to this problem. @BMunich16 The conquistadores were "white" I prefer to say European though I've never met a person who is actually the color white. They were Spaniards. Mexicans and Aztecs are actually the same thing. The actually name of the Aztecs were Mexica pronounced Meshika. The Spanish called them Mexicanos. So from Mexika (plural) and Mexikatl (singular) we get Mexicanos and Mexicano.
