great men i can truly say that i love with all my heart. i've been listening to them all for almost 15 years now. they have molded me from the way i think all the way to how i dress. now believe it or not but i'm sitting in my room right now and they are all here. i have my giant amazing bob marley poster covering my wall, then i look to my right and see a picture of johnny taped to my guitar staring back at me, then i look down at my london calling shirt like a sheild over my heart. my saviours

I think this is a good and true tribute to the memory of one great artist performed by two revolutionary artists in their own right. what's to not like?
The Emperor of American Music sings the King of Reggae, with a Prince of Punk. (Sorry, the King is still Joey Ramone). If Joey hadn't died and Joey so soon after, I am sure they would have collaborated on something great. I guess I'll have to be good and check out their show in Heaven!
I know that all three artists oppossed racism and the oppression around it.Joe Strummer and Jimmy Cliff recorded a song." Over the border".There is no need for any form of hate in todays world with people dying every day in wars.Should we not be fighting that and accomplish what all three legends set out to do.We should pay attention to the lyrics and not the Legends singing it.Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our minds.
wow . even in his old age johnnys voice eclipses jo strummers ! hated j.cash country style but love all t later stuff. if you like this listen to him do 'i see a darkness'.........
Bob Marley, sung by Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer. How can you get any better? I mean, seriously, only a guitar solo by Hendrix could make this better. :)
@VitaminJoint That version is being played up in Rock N' Roll heaven, Hendrix on guitar, Keith Moon on Bongos, John Lennon on Piano and Elvis on backing vocals.....!!!
Joe did actually meet and stay with him before just before he died, a picture of this is on the 12 inch Cover-kinda sweet-2 incredible redemptive soul rebels-Im sure they will meet in heaven Johny Cash confessed faith in Christ-lets hope Joe did!! ??? I love them both-kindred spirits!!
@828sim I beg to differ on that, I love both johnny cash and joe strummer and yeh they did this song justice but theres no way you can say they did it better than the guy whose song this is in the first place. bob marley is/was an outstanding person and musician, joe and johnny both recognized that which they even covered his song. which is why TONS of people cover this song, its beautiful and the person who originally sang it laid foundation.
you know joe strummer was turkish, right? sure they're not both "black guys" but maybe they know how to pay homage to someone outside their own race. they recognize bob marley as a legend, and both johnny cash and joe strummer are legends themselves. this rendition combines all three iconic musicians, and if you can't see or understand that then maybe you're the one who needs to learn respect.
@AnnaAntifa614 Actually Joe Strummer wasn't Turkish. He was born in Ankara, but that's cause his family moved around a lot for his father's job. They also lived in Cairo and Mexico City for awhile. He was a quarter Indian, though. Anyway I agree, it shouldn't and doesn't matter at all what race he is--- amazing no matter what.
@dnzg66 OK, so can you tell me please, did Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash actually collaborate, i.e. record this together when both were alive? Answer please, then i'll fuck off!!
@door2yourheart They did record this together when they were alive. Strummer was also recording with Reubin at the time -- it's not a stretch of the imagination to think of these two getting together to record a song like this.
I'm awaiting your proof that they didn't. Seems to me that you've got nothing better to do than troll here.
@dnzg66 You still provide no proof then? as for trolling, its been many months since i visited this post, I lost interest long ago! Thanks for your fervent interest though!
@door2yourheart Wrong. We answered your post. You just chose to ignore the answer, like a dickwad, and stubbornly stick to your own false beliefs. Go fuck off.
@dnzg66 You deluded little shit! There never was an answer to my enquiry, just presumptuous statements about how they might have! Fucking idiot boy!
What confuses me though is that two very pale faced, icons to some, recite the line; 'pirates yes they rob I, sold I to the merchant ships' . Great song, but weird from these two posers!
@door2yourheart You make it werid by livin in ur fuckin box that says people are differnt and cannot have the same feelings as one another, he uses the slave ships as a methaphore. saying that he was saved by somthing that enslaved him.
@dnzg66 So you still have no proof then, just your reply? As for trolling, it has been many months since i commented on this post, i lost interest with all the idiotic comments!
@dnzg66 OK dickhead, seeing as you haven't replied to my question, i can only presume that you don't know the answer! Therefore my initial presumption still stands unless you can prove otherwise!
@door2yourheart in what way was this made to "squeeze a few more bucks"? i highly doubt this song made any difference to the sales of the unearthed album (which happened to have 4 discs full of songs)
and what difference does it make if they both sat and recorded this together? strummer and cash were good friends so it's quite possible that maybe they would have had they not both died.
@door2yourheart nothing? but yet all three of your comments were hanging on the fact that they didn't actually sit in a studio together and record this? k.
@scottrMUFC Joe did actually meet and stay with him before just before he died, a picture of this is on the 12 inch Cover-kinda sweet-2 incredible redemptive soul rebels-Im sure they will meet in heaven Johny Cash confessed faith in Christ-lets hope Joe did!! ??? I love them both-kindred spirits!!
@door2yourheart Strummer was planning on making a duet with Cash and had recorded his vocals to send to cash when he died before his album was finished. This is a realisation of what Joe wanted.
They didnt have the time to get together just before Joe died so they sang the song n agreed it was good to go you filthy piece of shit, Joe used to go and watch Johnny record and take notes, if i could ever meet up with ou i'd waste you, get some knowledge before you comment ya dick
@828sim I agree, the song is a "masterpiece", but Johnny and Strummer are just paying homage to it, and they both probably realised that.
So seeing as this is 2 white guys singing about being 'sold to the merchant ships' and extolling the need to celebrate 'freedom', where does the 'soul' and 'feeling' come in? They have no history of slavery, so can only repeat the lyrics. In Strummers case, quite dead pan, and as usual, just trying to be cool!
two more grates now at that great gig in the sky. brings a tear to the eye. kinda like this more then marleys. im guessing they both knew that the end was near for the pair of them.
@hanghang71 i could be wrong but im pretty sure i remember reading somewhere that it was cash that put this together, him and joe had planned to do it together but joe passed away a few weeks before they actually got to it - so cash decided to do this in memory of joe. of course it could all be bollocks and i was lied to but i like to beleive that.

Excellent, not bad quality of a recording. Joe, suits the lyrics of this fabulous song. May he influence forever. Glad that I lived as a teenager as the Clash formed. RIP Joe

Excellent, not bad quality of a recording. Joe, suits the lyrics of this fabulous song. May he influence forever. Glad that I lived as a teenager as the Clash formed. RIP Joe
