  • Inexpensive panasonic plasma rocks

  • loved this video thanks steve

and I have a little Q which do you think will last longer LCD or Plasma ??

If its possible I want a specific brand and model so I'll buy it.

    thanks in advance

  • Laser and OLED fuck both, Plasma and LCD

  • Plasma FTW! LCD and LED are both inferior in terms of PQ, black levels and colors. Until OLED becomes affordable Plasma anyday

  • OLED will smoke all 3.

  • I have both (LCD in a room, Plasma in a basement). I can assert both are good but Plasma looks better for the reasons Steve (the speaker) said. Simply put, there is something slightly artificial looking about an LCD that one doesn't have with a Plasma.

Yet, it's a matter of comparing given that not all LCDs are the same (now there's also LED) and how much you care.

  • Ok . Who's the winner?!!

  • @bbe3100 OLED wins

  • I agree, nothing equals a plasma.

  • Lcd the best picture

  • Duck steve before they head butt you.

  • Lcds last longer than plasma!! That's why plasmas are cheaper at times..

  • Steve looks like a pedophile....

  • i think led is the way to go but in some cases my human eye could not tell the difference between led and an lcd tv on some particular brands comparing them. Go for led or lcd. I had a plasma but took it back and got an lg lcd. It was a night and day difference. It was way better

  • So will a plasma go great with my ps3?

(im currently using a 32" vizio LED LCD)

  • @GameNewsPs3 Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. Yes, most plasmas are great for gaming. Just be aware of the potential for burn-in and follow the manufacturer's recommendations reagrding usage. Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

  • @crutchfieldtv So now that "IPS" LCDs are becoming more mainstream, are plasmas still the superior tv for color production? I am stuck between buying a plasma tv or IPS monitor and want the best picture quality possible. Thanks

  • @ibanez0830 It's really a matter or personal preference. No one can tell you what looks best to you. Having said that, many of the LED televisions that offer dynamic illumination (Different manufacturers call this feature different things: Dynamic, Micro Dimming, local dimming, etc.) of the LEDs can offer brightness and conrast that is comperable, and in some cases superior, to that of a Plasma display. Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

  • @GameNewsPs3 I own a PS3 and have it hooked up to a Panasonic Plasma St30. It is amazing. I have never had any issues with image retention. I will play straight for 3-5 hours.

  • LCD vs LSD - LSD HAS MOAR COLORS *_*

  • I have a 32" plasma, so that isn't entirely true.

  • LCD/LED You Can play Video Games on With out worrying about burn in

  • @FrozenParanormalwolf i have had my plasma tvs from earlier models years on 24 hrs . sometimes i would sleep with the tv paused and i would never get burn in, . i even turned off the safety features and still drama free. i game 12+ hrs a day , cod halo no problem no sign of issues with burn in, .

  • @ utooberblooper Look first of all, I never posted ANY comments in here regarding LCD or plasma televisions. Secondly, I don't appreciate your comments as to my grammar, considering I GRADUATED from college and write just fine!

  • who has a plasma tv in their kitchen.....

  • Plasmas seem better, they will last you longer in the long run. 600HZ 0 MS Response time, 1080p, better colour and dark levels. The only thing is they are so dam expensive :/

  • @TheFishyNacho

    CRT FTW

  • press 3 he says bitch

  • He relaxes me.....

  • Plasmas sukk if ur a gamer...really burn out

  • Comment removed

  • @WLOfails

Donate me one of those TV's please because thats just greedy ;)

  • The biggest downside to a plasma is the sheer inefficiency. 500 Watts for a 42 inch monitor is insane. You can tell by the amount of heat being generated that much of the consumed power is simply wasted, and I thought CRT was bad.

    Plasma TV = A room heater with a screen. : )

  • @Superbatron the back labels on the power watts does not mean it will run at that watt, thats the peak max. it uses less to operate, although i dont argue its a useful heater on a 50" plasma that runs 24 hrs on most of its life. plasma does generate more power then lcd but the difference is unnoticeable but the superior quality of the plasma is very noticeable

  • a burn in is when u leave a image without movement for a period of time and the image gets "burned in". U can see the affects by changing your tv to the input (black screen) an example would be the tv channel logos, they remain in the corner of the tv but when they get " burned in" they stay there for a while.

  • price?

  • What's a burn in?

  • I have a 42" Samsung plasma TV and love it. Bought it in 2007 and burn-in is not really a big issue. Yes it occurs on channels with tickers or sports scores and some HUDs on video games, but 3-5 mins of the screen wipe or changing the channel to a movie will take care of it. This is on an older tv...burn-in on new gen plasma's is less of a problem. Never had any permanent ghosting at all or even when watching regular tv.

  • I thoght it was a LED displaybut its the back lighhting I see so ecknoligy has not goten that far I wonder if some people might go for the LED for enviimental reason for theLCD has muurcuury in it it feels funny plugging it in thje first tiem and tinking about when it is toe be discared, what the propery way plasma has phosfes is a problem

  • @vulcandude We have a great article in our Crutchfield “Know Zone” that covers the best ways to reuse, resell, and recycle all of your electronic gear. You can find the article by typing the word “Recycle” into the search window on the main Crutchfield website. HTH!--Crutchfield

  • @vulcandude hi there,

i wanted to understand your comment but your grammar is about 1st grade

level and you have 12 spelling mistakes that i can see.Take a few minutes to

fix the mistakes so everyone knows what you are trying to say !!

  • howd i get ere from first tre flip on a snowboard

  • What about LED?

  • @ModPCLM LED televisions are actually LCD models that use Light Emitting Diodes instead of fluorescent tubes. Both displays use the LCD panel to create the individual pixels, but the LEDs provide a brighter illumination and greater contrast ratio. LED models that offer “Dynamic illumination” or “Micro Dimming” provide some of the best contrast ratios currently available. Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

  • @crutchfieldtv whats the difference between dynamic contrast and static contrast? is their a measure/spec that gives an idea how rich, true and vibrant the colors are? i dont see a color saturation in the tv spec anywhere.

  • @powermaks Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your post. There is no set standard for measuring contrast ratios for static or dynamic ranges. So, you can compare the numbers within the same manufacturer’s products as a reference between models, but you cannot reliably use the numbers to compare between manufacturers. Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

  • I just bought a plasma, a LG 42PT353N, and instantly out the box i had bad bad burn in? what is wrong, what do i need to do to fix it, or should i just return it and get my money back??

  • @colpictures Burn-in shouldn’t occur without a static or still image on the screen for a prolonged period of time. I would certainly recommend taking the TV back to the retailer for a refund or exchange. HTH!--Crutchfield

  • @crutchfieldtv Yep, i have already contacted them and getting my money back and probably buying a non plasma, shame :(

  • Great Review!

  • Oh, God. Is this what humanity has come to? Please tell me there's someone growing food somewhere.

  • Hi, Steve.

  • @crutchfieldtv Very nice info! I have a question i'm thinking of buying TV now something cheap about 450-500 euro. I need the TV mainly for watching movies mostly on HD and 1080p.Can u say something about Panasonic TX-P42U30E / TX-P42UX30E. and/or PHILIPS 42PFL4606H

  • @edimenn While we carry the Panasonic line of U.S. models, we do not have access to the European models and pricing. I’m sorry I don’t have better news for you there. You may want to contact these manufacturers directly to see who the authorized retailers for your country are. HTH!--Crutchfield

  • If you're still confused, try to buy lcd and plasma, then you will tell to your self, what a waste of money in buying lcd. It;s for sure., i already done it.

  • Go to plasma, you cannot go wrong like me.!!! I disposed my lcd in a bargain price just to buy plasma.!!!

  • plasmas are better people

  • more like screen burn vs none screen burn. don't buy plasma but its also a waste of your electric bill. LCD and LED are future.

  • I usually watches DVDs and Blue Rays (mostly star trek) at night with dim lights. I have a lcd now but it hurts my eyes. Would a Plasma be better ?

  • @xBorg6of9x That depends greatly on the reason for your eye fatigue. Because we do not know what is causing your eyes to hurt now, we cannot say that plasma would be the cure for the issue. Plasmas do tend to be brighter with greater contrast than conventional LCDs, but the newer LED models can offer even better brightness and contrast. I would first try to determine the primary cause of the eye fatigue before buying a new television. Feel free to call for assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

  • Great vid! Finally a clear answer!

  • In my experience of buying owning and using TVs Plasma TVs are simply better. End of story.

  • the most simply explained difference and advantages of the 2 types.

    thanx, was of gr8 help.

  • please tell me which is better plasma720 p or LCD 1080 p.

  • @gustavo88115 A lot depends on the screen size and personal preference. While 1080p is a better resolution, you really won’t benefit from the additional pixels in a smaller screen size. Plasmas will generally provide a brighter picture and greater contrast than conventional LCD models. So it’s a matter of what’s more important to you specifically. Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

  • @crutchfieldtv Which would you recommend LG 50 inch Freeview Plasma HDTV 50PK590 or the LG 47LV355U 47 inch LED HDTV. I cannot decide which one to buy .

  • @HulmeBoy09 LG makes great products and you can't go wrong with either. For a personalized recommendation, give us a call: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

  • @crutchfieldtv I'm in the UK so I wont be ring a company in America! Need money for tv never phone bill

  • @HulmeBoy09

dont get a Lg i work with tvs and those tv s have the high failure rate if you want a plasma go with a panasonic if not get a samsung led thats it nothing else trust me i know

  • @jigga21ish I already got 2 LG's and they been fine since the day I got them plus i have extended warrenty on all my electricals.....just in case!

  • @gustavo88115 I have a 43" 720p plasma, a 59" 1080p plasma and a 51" 1080p plasma, all Samsungs. I had Sony LCDs in the past and I can't tell you how glad I am that I switched to plasma. The image has darker blacks, better color and dynamic contrast. Don't worry to much about the 720p vs 1080p. My 43" 720p looks great sisde by side with the 1080p. As far as plasm not lasting as long as an LCD, that was in the past. Both will last 70,000 hours. What TVs are you looking at?

  • You are forgetting to mention that plasma consumes alog of electricity

  • CRT

  • Sup steve

  • Hi im Steve

  • Hiking steve

  • plasma tv's don't go from 42" and larger, my friend has two plasma tv's, one of them is a 32" and the other one is a 40"

  • @Xbox360bbb Good catch! We are referring to the Plasma televisions brands that we carry as there are some other companies that make them smaller than 42".

    CrutchfieldTV

    800 315 0030

  • @Xbox360bbb most plasmas are 42"

  • @Xbox360bbb video is from 2009 retard!

  • The new plasmas like panasonic tx-p50x20e are awesome last really long had now in 1 year i swear i have my tv on all day and play games and its still cool not warm.

  • i love how people votes lcd :) cuz i was starting to think it was a waste of money cuz when ever i watch a movie the people move diffrently than my old tv, but i still enjoy my 55in lcd x)

  • Wow idk why people keep saying LCD have lag when playing video games it doesn't have any fucking lag you probably have older designs cause my LCD has beautiful images and no lag.

  • I prefer the lcd Thank you, your style great

  • LCD

  • pioneer kuro lx5090 is the best plasma : ) for video games (ps3-Xbox 360 ) and Movies (Bluray)

  • forget about plasma dont listen to this guy, plasma has too mnay problems, you'll start seeing black pathches in parts of your screen, besides no matter what manufacturers say plasma TV's have a lower life expectancy than LCD or LED, plasma is already being phased out, manufacturers like sony have already stopped plasma production, its outdated technology ... this video was made 2 years ago ...... what you should buy is LED ...

  • Hi I was thinking about buying a HDTV for gaming on ps3 and xbox 360. I been researching for awhile on both and I was wondering what would you recommend

For gaming. I know LCD how a motion blur problem how bad is this problem? I also hear plasmas did have a burnin problem is Burn ins still a major problem today or is that problem fixed? Thanks

  • @bbbeenn32

You should check out our video response to this video, it's in response to others that asked the same question as you, it's called "LCD vs. Plasma For Gaming"

    Hope that answers your questions.

If you still have questions after that, call us, we can help you decide what's best for you.

    Crutchfield

    800 315 0030

  • @bbbeenn32 Plasma TVs are better for video games because they do not lag. If you play video games that require fast response time, like fighting games, for instance, you want to go Plasma. LCDs all lag but there are some that have an enhanced response time so it takes them only like 1 or 2 milliseconds. The response time for Plasma however is like 0. So depending on what time of games you play, I recommend Plasma.

  • If plasmas are better then why Sony stopped making them?

  • @AndroM2

Probably best to ask Sony that question. 800 222 SONY.

    CrutchfieldTV

  • @AndroM2 because the production of plasma costs so much

  • @AndroM2 because most jackasses think that plasma is a dead technology, which could be no farther from the truth. Sony must appease the masses.

  • this is the koolest guy ever

  • I would take an LCD. as mentioned below it would be better for gaming as well.

  • dude you forgot to mention NO GAMING ON PLASMA!

  • @SiimpleHarry

Might want to watch our other video on this subject, "LCD VS. Plasma for gaming."

It used to be true that only a person that didn't care about their plasma only lasting a short while would play video games on it, and burn images in, those were the early days of plasma. Newer plasmas resist burn-in so well that you have to work hard at burning an image in.

Some will retain an image temporarily if you leave it there too long, but it can be "wiped" off.

    CrutchfieldTV

  • @crutchfieldtv what about led TVs ??

  • @SiimpleHarry That's wrong man, plasma's are way better for playing...you should try it!!!!

  • I still have my old CRT 4:3 ratio tv, and see no LCD or Plasma to match it's smoothness when I watch football (soccer).

I know technology is catching up, but untill Panasonic or Samsung sort it out, I'm sticking with the past.

  • i want to stab this guy in the neck o.O

  • guy looks like a psycho

  • I lost 1:49 of my life in this video...

  • Sweet! I like plasma better. Having owned both, and comparing them side by side with the same material on an HDMI splitter the difference is night and day. No more "soap opera" like movement. Whoop Whoop! With burn in protection you don't have to worry about burn in. IN fact, without it you would still have to display the same picture for more than t days straight! You can use a plasma as you would have used a CRT tv.

  • as a hardcore gamer i would rather buy an lcd ^^

  • @berzerker11 As a hardcore gamer I recently went from a 120hz lcd to a plasma. I'll never go back. It's much more fluid, and you don't get that horrible artifacting (even with the 120hz turned on).

  • LEDs are the future

  • Plasma > LED > LCD

I'll take any plasma, any day.

  • @AmadeusAslee it is proven that led is better than plasma..what the fuck is "plasma>led" suppose to mean...and im not talking abt price...

  • @shobin05 You clearly do not know what you are talking about. The black levels of a plasma TV is much better than a LED/LCD TV. As per the newer plasma TVs, the refresh rate of those are much higher (equivalent to 600Hz equivalent of LCDs) compared to LEDs (300Hz/240Hz). The only reason why you would buy an LED is if the location that you are putting it in is very bright and that the power consumption is lower. Also, most of the newer Plasma TVs have burn in protection as well.

  • @AmadeusAslee yes, i clearly do not know anything about tvs...i didnt know plasma has burn in protection, are u sure about that? im considering one...

  • @AmadeusAslee The 600hz is actually just for advertisements. Plasmas are built with 10 or so panels put together. The 600hz is actually derived from each panel refreshing 60 times a second (60hz). All they've done is add them up. It's just to compete with the 240hz and whatnot of lcd's becaue that's the buzzword these days. Remember when 720P was the buzzword? Then it was replaced with 1080P, and now it's replaced with HZ.

  • @AmadeusAslee ...the only panel that was worthy of replacing my 53" CRT RPHDTV Panasonic, was SED, but since that looks like it got buried, my CRT will stay... it's too bad too, because SED (basically a thin, flat CRT on steriods) was 10x's better than anything you can buy today.

  • who the hell uses an plasma tv in the kitchen?

  • @pedrodenadal

Movie loving chefs with big kitchens and plenty of wall space.

    CrutchfieldTV

    800 315 0030

  • @crutchfieldtv whats olcd? what whats the diffence between that and normal lcd

  • @jjalepeno55

OLCD is a misspelling, it's actually OLED. It stands for organic light-emitting diode. It's a material that can be used in making extremely thin TVs. Sony made one called the XEL-1 a couple years ago.

It has yet to be used widely for large, super thin TV screens. For now, you'll find it in digital camera LCD screens and such.

    Hope that helps,

    CrutchfieldTV

    800 315 0030

  • @crutchfieldtv

thank you, but is the display very or energy saving?

  • @pedrodenadal

first of all, its A plasma, second, my friend got a 46inch in his kitchen

third who cares, just watch the video FAIl kid

  • @pedrodenadal People with tons of money. I worked on a house (electrician) where the guy had a tv put in EVERY room of the house. Even had 30" tv's in the bathrooms.

  • I have a 60" LED Sharp aquos its sexy XD

  • @Bubblesadventures lucky basterd

  • listen plasmas are like radiators ,they heat up like hell.

  • @iownudie108 Uh mine doesn't. I got a Panasonic TC-P42G25 btw. I believe Panasonic's run the coolest of all the Plasma's btw.

  • Comment removed

  • is plasma good for playin video games in hd?

  • Comment removed

  • @eseblue13 Yes definitely. Low input lag, deep blacks, no off axis issues, and deep contrast. THX Mode on the Panasonic G25 has a very realistic look. And the anti-reflective filter on that tv is very good.

  • Very nice review!

  • Comparing LCD and plasma is like the special olympics. Whatever the winner is, it's still retarded. Both technologies are rubbish compared to a Sony Trinitron.

  • Bought me a Samsung 40 630....Got it three days. SHould have seen this. My eyes hurt (even if I turn brightness and contrast way down) , it seems flat almost no depth in the picture. Looks great and is recommended and I have the right series (SQ and not AU panel). Still...it is not for me. Panasonic P42S20 will be it. I don't like the looks, but according to this advice (and others) and reviews it seems to ne the best option available...

  • Wow I just read that all plasmas suffer from burn in but some can withstand it longer that's so stupid! LCD FTW NOW!!!!!

  • new model plasmas do not have burn in. look at any crt or tube tvs. they actually have burn in but do you notice it? yes shitty sanyo or something sucks with burn in but shitty lcds have 700:1 contrast and 40 degree viewing angle with horrible, horrible black levels. now take new model panasonic plasmas and new model sharp aquas lcds. the plasma will have darker blacks, more colors, run at a higher hertz, and NO BURN-IN. dont get me wrong aquas are awesome but even my lg plasma is a lttle better

  • @joggingbanana

Plasmas are good for people who want something big but have a budget, while lcd are better for gaming as said by sony but the do cost a bit more due to quality, i see why you prefer plasmas i recently brought a new 2011 plasma but the picture was just a bit clearer on my lcd so i swapped my plasma for another plasma and had the same problem. So anyway i googled it and found out its a common problem.

  • i used to agree they were good for gaming until i realised plasmas can produce more colors than lcd, so i went in my settings and turned down the contrast, color saturation, and brightness to a more lcd look and now its great. if im watching a movie or playing a game where... lets say a shines its head lights when im in a dim room i actually need to squint cause of the brightness capabilties of a plasma. not for everyone but i like that. also ps3 has full range rgb and 'super white' settings

  • @0ChrisMackle0

yea i agree they produce more colors but the quality isnt as good as an lcd image it may look better in slow paced but in a fast paced game the lcd doesnt leave a blur/ghost effect while every plasma does mianly the blur, so it hurts your eyes a bit to focus while moving on a game like black ops.

  • @0ChrisMackle0 you've got that wrong... LCD blurs, plasma doesn't suffer from any of those problems. I'm playing black ops on a 60" LG 60PK550 right now and w/ 600hz SubField driving.. it's FLUID. Not on the LED/LCD upstairs. Do some research. Plasma doesn't suffer from any of the problems LCD does because of the way it produces the picture.

  • @djruinerdotcom i have that tv to. im returning mine because theres to much input lag.

  • @xkillaz18x i doubt you have it

  • @djruinerdotcom why would i make this up you stupid fuck. seems like your going around bragging about the pk550 but the joke is on you because the fucking thing has input lag which is not acceptable for hardcore gamers like myself. you can "doubt" me all you want but there's no "doubt" the pk550 has input lag and is not the best for gaming!

  • @xkillaz18x i just got it in jan so its prob the 2011 one... it says 0.001ms.. I dont know I dont notice any input lag and i'm a pretty hardcore gamer. Def no blur. The panny is definitely a better TV though. Would like to have got a VT25 but I got this new for $750 so couldn't pass it up! It's whatever you like really!

  • @djruinerdotcom

your wrong, plasmas do blur, you may not notice it because your use to it but look it up on google it is a newly discovered problem as far as i know, like the surveys said by sony 86% of call of duty players prefer lcd over plasma, im pretty sure its on the cod site otherwise goto sony.

  • @0ChrisMackle0 Actually, I'm completely right.

  • @0ChrisMackle0 blur is one thing so is input lag. lcd has far more blur then plasma, plasma has more input lag then lcd. pick your poision

  • @djruinerdotcom LCDs last longer tho

  • thats only if you are using the av ports and you leave the same picture on for to long

  • lcd wins due to the burn in of the plasma

  • really, because of burn in? new models dont even have burn in anymore, they fixed the problem with the retained charge in the green. lcd still suffer from lag (and always will since its liquid crystals that take split second time to twist to expose the backlight) they will also never have as high of true contrast since the backlight is somewhat consistant and plasmas are individual mini bulbs that can dim. lcd blacks can never get blacker plasmas can. why would lcd win with so many problems?

  • PLASMA WINS

  • very helpfull thankyou sir

  • You really think that some idiot would place 42 plasma tv on kitchen,,

  • @CycerMan ! 8D

  • Smoothness of motion is about frames per second, which is affected by the hardware in the machine you are using for playback. Also you forgot to mention that plasma TVs can have an image burned onto them, sometimes permanently if you leave 1 picture on them too long, rather like you're doing now! Do you want to see a bunch of overpaid footballers next time you want to watch Pirates of the Carribean in 1080p? Thought not. Get an LCD or LED.

  • lcds work with blackish liquid crystals twisting to reveal a backlight, this takes a moment which causes slight lag. plasma uses gas lit with electricity, instant creating a smother motion. LEDs are the same with a led backlight instead. true LEDs are called OLED.i have a 50" lg plasma with all the perks and filters, i use it as my pc monitor (like right now) after about 8 hours of the windows symbol in the bottom right there is never burn in. only old model plasmas have that problem.

  • I guess I have to correct you here the VP322HDTV10A is a 32 inch plasma... so they are available less than 42 as you claimed...

  • helpful

  • LED kicks plasma's and lcd's ass ;)

  • @shabond901 the price of LED tv today will also kick your ass

  • @troffa But we are speaking performance wise not price.

Actually led tv's are getting cheaper and cheaper all the time. Soon they will be the price of an lcd tv 1 year ago.
