@XXXtsontakias : I really recorded the beater smashing the bass drum skin, alone, with nothing else. I edited the sound I obtained and mixed it as a separate track. I then 'merged' the tracks (full drum + beater on skin) as one single stereo track. And this is the result...
pretty decent sound ... but people should not be blown away that he was able to get a decent sound with only two mics .... the truth is the most important thing is his initial drum sound ... if the drums sound good in the room there is no reason why they wont sound good recorded ... all a mic does is either record a sound or make it louder .. you can fuck with aspects of the sound once its recorded but generally speaking you cannot polish a turd ..if your drums sound like shit , no mic will help
it sounds very good with all the instruments. I have an mp3 version of the actual song with this drum recording. You can leave me your email and I'll send it to you. Thanks.
Thanks man! We tried so many different settings for this... and ended up with this simple one, and it sounds quite good. I'm really happy because my concern regarding the recording of our material was the dman drums!
Most of drum kits recorded at home on cheap equipement don't sound good. So we were very happy with what we came up, on our own. Visit the myspace page. Songs on it are not the 'official' versions, but soon, we will post the new songs witht the kick ass drum. myspace/300faces
Hey mike , I also make recordings with 2 mics .
One 3-4 feet in front of the kit ( Thomann RB 500 ,
a very good cheap ribbon mic ) and one on the snare .
It sounds phenomenal , just like your recording here .
And the compression makes it sound more "rock" and
is absolutely needed for a nice mix .
Finally someone who knows how to use his ( few ) mics .
I'm proud of you, man .

sounds awesome for two mics
what kind of mics did you use?

For overall sound :
A cheap Behringer (C-3) with a tube preamp (Behringer MIC100)
For bass drum sound :
An Audio Technika 141 (a cheap dynamic mic)

Good tones here. How do they hold up with the other instruments overdubbed?

try having an ovre head in front of the kit and another mic behind your left should, it works very well but this is impressive

I think it sounds really good. Sound is in the ear of the beholder when it comes to drums.

Damn! The sound is heavely compressed... think I'll post another one with a higher resolution.
