It's not just because metal bats can hit the ball farther. They also have a larger sweet spot. It is much more difficult to hit the ball well with a wood bat because you have to hit it within a very small area on the bat. It's also a traditional thing. A wood bat has always been used. Anyone who's hit with a wood bat will tell you how much more enjoyable it is and how much more skill it requires. Also, the pros actually get the very best cuts of wood available for the sake of durability.

But putting that aside, the most popular bat and ball sport, by far, is Cricket. Rated number 2 for worldwide popularity, just behind football (the game where you kick a ball with your foot, not the game where you carry a non-ball in your hands). It's more popular than baseball because it has entertainment value, and you don't have to be drunk or 8 y/o to sit through a game.

@ConnorandTyler he is a pro, i doubt he's making such a beginner mistake. its probably a fast pitcher and hes a young rookie so his muscles and reflexes arent fully devoloped so he cant bring the bat through the zone in time. that combined with his timing being off that day (thats baseball) and a lot of inside pitches(each time the bat broke it was a foul down the first base line, inside on a lefty). it was just unlucky, i dont think it was really his fault.

@cranksunlimited its not that difficult, you hit the ball with the label either straight up or straight down... hitting the ball with the label on the bat increases the chance of it breaking... anyone who has played with wood bats knows this, but people forget every once in a while

the way the bat breaks at 0:23 is a clear sign that he hit the ball on the label

just because he's a pro, doesn't mean he knows how to hit with wood any better than me. But his mechanics are definitely better ;P
