I missed it, my daughter was telling me about it today. Unfortunately, the showings so far are way too late for me. :( Hoping to find it on hulu or here on youtube. She was most impressed with the truck that runs on firewood! I want to see that!
I know you weren't too thrilled with the final presentation of the show, but I think you and SouthernPrepper1 were by far the best prepared and portrayed as the most level-headed of the people presented. You two really are inspirational.
While it may not have been the ideal presentation, the show has enabled me to use it as an ice breaker to introduce prepping to and spark conversations with non-preppers--one of the hardest things to do.
The takeaway from the show was that with foresight, planning, ingenuity and just plain work one cannot be caught completely unaware and empty-handed in case of a natural or man-made disaster, & that it will take all of our skills to succeed together. The most important words-to-the-wise were something to the effect that it will take days/weeks for the gubermints to respond vitally/fully to a large catastrophe and all of its ripples. Think Katrina, BP Spills, Japan, 9/11, Joplin...ppl, get ready!
We had a family "viewing" of the show Monday. You guys were, as expected, fantastic. I think we are educated enough to realize the slant they put on these things, although your segment was pretty darn good. The name was, I agree, disapointing, but you guys are a real inspiration!
I think it was a great show except for the so called experts knocking you guys when really you guys are the most prepped people I have ever seen. I don't think anyone would suspect anything just by walking up to your house that you would have lots of preps or all kinds of systems in place for protection.
Thanks for what y'all are doing! When I first started watching you and SP1 I was like, 'look at all that shampoo and toilet paper! *looks at my husband* Do we have shampoo?' LOL
You guys should have ask some folks if it was a good idea. I have not seen it but I got some reviews sent to me. You might think about moving seeing how they gave your info out at the start of the show. Believe me every clown that has not prepared will remember your name and what you have! In my opinion you created a terrible situation for you and your family. I know its too late now to take it back but you need to find a way to mitigate the problem.
I really enjoyed the program, Southrenpepper1 and yourself did a great job, I do feel sorry for the preppers in the Southwest, they will not make it,.
I just watched the show and wanted to thank you for doing the show! It made me think of some things I need to prep on and also, hopefully it opened the eyes of many others!
Maybe this show will help get other people aware of the dangers that they should prepare for...though for me,I KNOW what dangers there are but it's hard to prep being an almost broke 15 year old and that my parents don't seem concerned(haven't brought it up with them).I am trying to get some chickens in the backyard though so that's a plus.
when you get on there - make sure to mention you are disappointed at the reference "doomsday" prepares - make it clear its nothing to do with the other superstitious doomsday crap out there and purely rational analysis of the disastrous economic situation (debt, unemployment etc)
Although They did Spin the Show a little You and SP1 came out looking ,well put together and credible just like you are in real life . This Show on Tv will change many peoples lives for the better
Thank you Engineer775 And Southernprepper1 for taking the risk you took in agreeing to do this show . You may never know just how many people you have helped or inspired to start prepping .
I'm watching it now. The preppers aren't coming off too well in my opinion. I am uncertain why a prepper would do a nationally televised program. To me that is putting a gigantic bullseye on their homes and family. Bad people won't wait until something happens to steal the supplies. Society would be less forgiving if the preppers shot somone on their property tomorrow opposed to if all heck broke loose. Prep in secret, underground, in a cave and tell noone. Don't give your names and location. :(
Hey CONGRATS! I heard about you from Cody and Sooch. Went to Nat Geo and saw the trailer. Looks great. I know the name sucks but what the heck. We are kind of prepping for a doomsday type scenario even if the rest of the world doesn't want to admit it.
I'm telling my husband about your channel and the show. I'm going to get him to watch it with me tonight. He is an engineer too and currently working in commercial construction. He could do the things you are doing. I want to motivate him. Subbed!
"The Self Sufficient" is much better than "Doomsday Preppers", but wouldn't draw the same number of viewers. Just read an article which talked about "doomsday fatigue" seems most people are growing tired of hearing about all the world's problems. Rather than seeing warning signs, they would rather focus on American Idol, Casey Anthony and the NFL strike. The Future Zombies of America Club.
Hey Cody, Thanks for the video response. Sorry I missed the Blog TV tonight but I will go see if it is archived. The Nat Geo experience has been fun minus a few errors , and slants. Overall, from what I have seen, they are sticking to what was filmed back in February. We asked if we could preview it and they said no. Their lack of fact checking makes them look bad. Take care and may God keep you safe as you process all that awesome timber!
@engineer775 My wife and I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I agree with you on the title, which I thought wa disappointing. I currnetly serve as an assistant pastor in the midwest and I appreciate your leadership. Thanks for all of your work.
Just watched the snipit and I think they did a better job than I would have exspected from a big network...Thanks for all that you and Dav do for us...God bless...
you'll be lucky if they don't all-out slam you guys portray you as looneys. that's typically what media does, during filming they make you feel like they are genuinely interested in you, then when it airs on tv they make you out to be a complete joke.
i hope they don't do that, you and SP1 are good guys, and have taught me alot.
They called it Doomsday because the MSM want to portray anyone with independence of food, energy, water & mind, as some undesirable extremist kooks so that the idea of prepping does NOT become popular. However, Nat Geo are usually pretty good.
The last thing the government wants are millions of prepared and confident people who can look after themselves. The more DEpendent the population are, the more excuse there is for a big brother government to step in and run people's lives.
Im looking forward to it too! Despite the bad title, I bet the show will be great. Lets hope they don't pass you and David off as "nut jobs" like the media would...I think the show will help people open their eyes.
The best of the best is what you guys are; glad they picked you to feature. Modern intelligent prepping. Imagine the shock some folks will have as they WAKE UP after seeing what you have accomplished through science and hard work. Nat Geo should make a weekly program for prepping topics!

@engineer775 nice is that for engine oil and stuff to keep it fresh?great work thanks for helping people learn, really like the community structure, thats a huge upgrade in being prepared.i hated they called your work a compound, its media subliminal shit they do to down grade brilliant people, like the ruby ridge and waco shit, they always got to add the 2 cents. i dont know if you guys ever checked out like solar dishes made with the huge 12 ft or bigger satellite dishes, they make alot of power

@Iam1uglyguy There are 2 trailers you can watch. on the nat geo channel. just search for doomsday preppers and go to the nat geo channel and click on the video tab.
I imagine it will be able to be viewed online after it airs.
glad your going to be on tv hope the doomsday part doesn't cause negative outcome and thanks for speaking at preppers confrence really enjoyed your take on water and backups
I think "media" production people must share some of the same DNA with attorneys & used car salespeople; they'll tell you what they have to in order to get what they want from you. Booooooo. I'm sure the info that you & SP1 have will be good, I hope you two didn't get edited to the point of being marginalized. I've already set the DVR.
@ModernSurvivalOnline Thanks Rourke! - There are 2 trailers you can watch. on the nat geo channel. I imagine it will be able to be viewed online after it airs. I am not sure what you are posting but the trailer on the Nat Geo channel could be embedded. Just a thought.
