interesting how the Tokaido line runs both e231, e233, and e217 configurations. is this some kind of scheme so that N scale train manufacturors make more money! and how come the e233 is called the e531 for the joban line. either way, i like all three train models, really want to purchase every single one.
My friend, who works at JR East told me that they will announce the E233 for Tokaido Line sometime in 2008, at the same time when the plans for Takasaki, Utsunomiya, and Joban Line expansion to Tokyo are finalized.
There is the plan but it is delayed because of a suit. The suit has not finished. It is impossible to be completed the construction by 2009. I can't tell you when the suit finish and construction start.
At Kanda area, they say it infringes the right to sunlight and they have the agreement that JNR(now JR-east) doesn't make it over the Yamanote line or Shinkansen tracks and so on.
Whoa! I didn't know that E233's are coming to the Tokaido Line. That was a little bit unexpected. What older model it's going to replace? Is it the 211 series? And when did the 211's debut? By the way, is Keihin-Tohoku Line E233 trains debut soon?
Hmm... Interesting. By the way, I should say that the E233 Trains are replacing the older 201 trains at a really really quick rate. Do you know when 201's will completely be phased out? First I've heard is early next year. Is that right?
Yes. JR will have replaced it by next spring. But there are two 201-trains on the Keiyo line and is no plan to remove 201-trains on Keiyo line. So we can ride on in a few years.
It's interesting that there will still be a few older trains running despite that most of it will be gone. Oh, and for the Keiyo Line, are the new E331 series keep coming? This is another question that keep stick to my mind... after I saw an older video of the Yamanote Line right after 103's are phased out, do you know what exact date in 1985 did the 205 series started service?
JR said E331 is something wrong. The service of E331 was only 3days and after then it is in car center. (Last month 7 cars were backed to Kawasaki Heavy Industries and 7 cars left is waiting to back to Tokyu car corporation. but because of too much orders, the Tokyu can't repair it.) And 205 was debut on 25 March in 1985.
But what I don't understand was what was the problem? I believe you answered a question about the test run of a new train, this time is what kind of things are observed during the test run? Maybe that there are something wrong with the E331 that they haven't caught during the test run? Man, I should say that this is like the biggest recall of JR East trains. Is there any other train recalls that is more severe than this? Now what? What would the JR East do with Keiyo Line trains?
I can't say about it any more. I don't know what problem is(was) and why it happened. I haven't ever heard train's recall. I think this may be first case. I'm sorry not to answer your questions.

Hmm, I ride the new E233 on Keihin-Tohoku Line all the time. Definitely an improvement. I wonder when we'll see it on Tokaido.

Thank you very much! I'll see if I'm lucky enough to ride it on Friday. I don't use the Tokaido line until then.

JR-east will replace E217 train. E217-train will return to Yokosuka and Sobu line. So JR needs E233 train.
211 train's debut was in 1985. JR does not replace nor remove 211 train (Tokaido line)for a while.
I think E233 train (for Keihin-tohoku line) will be debut soon but JR doesn't announce when E233 will be debut.
