6024 has had firebox repairs made at Williton on the West Somerset Railway, has run and should be back on the main line soon.

  • Thanks JC. Pleased to hear the King is running again..

  • Some amazing shots there Mike taken in very difficult conditions...This once again shows that the Castles are the Kings!!! 5* Bob

  • Thanks Bob. The Castles performance last week was a credit to the crew, but it would be great if the King was allowed a 2nd attempt over Shap.

  • It need the same crew and good steam coal Mike and it should do as well...fingers crossed and let's hope so..Bob

  • Yes, hand picked, every lump! I don't think GWR engines would get very far on that brown gubbins the Chinese used to throw into the fireboxes of the QJs!!

  • Some really memorable shots there Mike bringing back a lot of memories. The woman at Penrith summed it up...'bloody ell' !!!

  • Thanks Austin. It's easy to forget what archive material we have.

  • Just as a GWR Big Beast "Earl of Mount Edgcombe" puts in a sterling performance both ways over Shap, you have to bring us GWR fans back to earth again! LOL! Excellent compilation 5* - Mike

  • Cheers Mike. Didn't mean to spoil the party, and of course the Kings return from Carlisle was pretty spectacular.
