You can probably get the tab on ultimate-guitar. Dropped D tuning (DADGBE). Verse is constant Low D under a shift between Dmaj7(A and C#) and G (G and B). chorus or refrain is Eminor, F# minor, G, F#minor, each played for full measure, then same pattern doubled during "Everybody wants to rule the world."
Thanks to all for the wonderful comments. I have a solo version, but I chose to use a pre-recorded loop for this performance to add texture (musicality over skill). Pete
i like this one over andy mckees. tbh.... DONT GET ME WRONG.. i love andy mckee... but he was in a different tuneing in it and it sounded off to me... this is in the correct tuning + it sounded rushed to me... my opinion but i do love andy mckee's work and i have all of his cd's
if it wasn't for the looper i'd say this was one of the best, but i still think andy mckee's is alot better. andy plays melody, bass, chords, harmonics and his "thumb thwack" slaps. but all in all, great cover pete, sounds great!
the one thing i see a lot in your playing is passion :) the way you keep an eye on what your doing and nodding your head in rythm i like it (Y) well done :D
I think he's not playing alone... there are some impossible guitar parts... There are simultaneuos bass, rythm and guitar solos... I wish someone would transcribe this... well done! I love this song...
I'm glad you like it. Just for the record, , i'm using a Jamman Looper. In this performance, I'm playing the bassline, the melody and the chords. I loop in an extra guitar line here or there (starting at 1:08), and during the solo, and a few other parts. I looped in the parts to add some texture. And of course the audience realized what I was doing.
If you want to hear an amazing strictly solo performance of the song, check out Andy McKee's performance up above
So that's the trick here... I thought someone was playing in the background but was not seen in the camera... I just wanna ask how long did it took you piece out this song? I'm trying to do the intro and I noticed tuning is on dropped d? right?
right, it is dropped D tuning, and essentially in the key of D. as you've probably noticed, the recurring rhythm is Dmaj7 to G. it took a day or two to get the arrangement worked up. if I had the time, I'd work up a more intricate solo version. but I'm thrilled you like it.
The intrumental sidel is as heartfelt as the original - sad to say no every song we hear on the radio is as inspiring as this one as well other Classics Songs.
I stayed in Curitiba for about 7 weeks in 1994. In fact, I was there on July 17, 1994. Never experienced a victory celebration like that in my life. Take Care.
I just saw Andy McKee play last night in Vienna, VA and he did an AMAZING version of this....nothing pre-recorded needed to support his performance. Andy - you need to post up a video clip of you playing this!
wow! I can´t beleieve that there is just one guitar playing this..it seems you have some extra help ,you play it very well.I play this song but after listent to you playing I think its better I retire lol..You need send this to Tears for fears guys, I think you play even better them;
Awesome playing, but please, please buy a vintage guitar with some dark tone cuz this one is so trebly it detracts from the utterly masterful playing. The guitar sounds plastic!?
OMG, Peter you are ab-SO-lutley AMAZING....and your gonna get it for not telling us about your hidden talent. Bring CDs please we want one. Thank Charles and Ken for telling us your secret!!!
Thank you. glad you like it. I'm using a Jamman looper on this song. It's still all me, just not all at once. I can play it solo, but I like to add a few extra layers. Wish I could do it all that once. Not enough hands.
wow! one of the best acoustic covers of this song on youtube. I'd rather like to hear someone cover this in a non-acoustic version but yours is cool enough
Whats the tuning?

Retains the unique atmosphere of the original. In my opinion the best fingerstyle rendition.

Fantastic!! What a beautiful atmosphere you put in this song!
I think it's one of the best songs ever made (saw them live in Rotterdam, amazing).
Well done man!

Wow this sounds so accurate!
I would agree with the earlier post that it seems better rendered than McKee's version too.
I wish it was better recorded though :(

I don't think anyone is playing in the background, but he's definitely using a looper or something. He's not doing it all by himself.
