PhDs are called doctors, automatically. They are NOT professors. They would love to be professors, but they aren't. Calling oneself "professor" means you have tenure. Having to call oneself "doctor" is actually an acknowledgement that one hasn't made tenure, and so one is viewed, at least by tenured colleagues, as someone inferior.
So, calling oneself doctor is, ironically, not such a great thing, if one is a doctor.

So if they were dicks about it, whatever there issue was would go directly to the back of the line, not to mention a side note on the project that i make sure i call them by there first name and then mis pronounce it.
