I'm taking: multivitamin, aspirin 81 mg (for cardiovascular), flaxseed oil (also for cardiovascular), plus some Rx for diabetes and hypertension. Just got back very good lab results. I do worry about the Vitamin D and calcium, because I'm also staying out of the sun (afraid of skin cancer), but I do eat a lot of dairy. Those Vitamin D+calcium pills are big! I hate to take them because they're tough to swallow.
I spent 25 years working in the sun on a golf course. I'm taking time off for good behavior.
I do take a basic vitamin regimen, with a multivitamin, Lutein, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, Fish oil, and one aspirin, every day. Been doing it for 30 years or so, and at the age of 67, I'm still not taking any actual "medications" at all. Knock on wood.....
I like the sun but it don't like me. Can't say I've been tested for that but I try to eat healthy. I don't like taking tablets as most of them disagree with me. The best bet is to take something that is herbal based instead of chemicals.
@winelover215 What????? I hope for your sake that's a typo... Most people require less than 1,000 IU a day. I was highly deficient in Vitamin D and the doctor put me on 5,000 units a day which is a large dose. I've lowered it now because it gave me kidney stones. 100,000 IU a day is very dangerous. No medical professional would recommend that. A dose like that will damage your health permanently. Once every 3-4 months is ok, but everyday? No way Jose... Talk to a doctor right away.
@MarcusTheGrand I said I malabsorb it. Trust me I know my levels and I'm right in perfect range. My labs are checked very frequently for other fat soluble vitamins as well.
I have autoimmune disease and my body doesn't aborb vitamin D so I have to take prescription strength vitamin D once a week so I don't break my bones! It's actually a catch 22 situation. I'm on a very strong medication to immune suppression and I can't be in the sun on this med. But, I have virtually no vitamin D in my body because of my disease. Oh well.....one day at a time!
I try to take a multi-vitamin.I use lactose free milk, put it in cereal, put it in coffee, use milk in hot chocolate, put it in oatmeal and rice, that way I'm getting Vitamin D and calcium, but hardly ever have to drink just a plain glass of milk.
Lots of people need Vit D. I do not go in the sun. I burn in one min...no kidding. You know how much sun we get in Rochester: none. I hope everything else was ok!
I can't take sun, it gives me a head ache. So i take Vit D3 and i drink milk. I have a rare nerve disease....and i have to put on sunglasses before going out or i have instant headache....glad u are in good health though, besides the Vit D problem.
Aloha from Waianae,Hawaii Jolene!!! Glad to see your in good health!! Living in Hawaii there's plenty of sun and I get my fair share I'm sure! The vitamin D pillls seem to be your best option since milk is not your fav and the sun just burns you.Anywho....I raise my morning cuppa coffee and toast your health....not to mention your vitality! Aloha nui loa!
I read recently (I think it was Consumer Reports) that few supplements are even worth taking--with the exception of vitamin D. I avoid the sun as well, so I take a vitamin D supplement a few times a week. I take the kid's size since the adult sizes are usually 300% to 500% the recommended daily allowance. I never understood the logic of taking more than what you need. It just makes your system work too hard to dump it.
Seriously? Fuck you. Just, fuck you.
