IG2 was completely different; French Stewart replaced Matthew Broderick, Claw's face was invisible beneath his new hat, G2 was robot 247 rather than cyborg, Gadget kept leaving Penny out of the case, and Brenda was missing! But if I could speak for her, I think she'd rather die a woman than live for all eternity as a machine. As I assured in the Bambi 2 trailer, who is responsible for these attacks on the Disney sequels, and where will he or she strike next?

I actually prefer French over Broderick.

French is acting more "cartoonish" and thus, closer to the actual cartoon.

I have to admit that I really enjoyed IG2 back then, and I still think that it's way better than the first one.

When you're making a movie out of a comedic cartoon, you don't trying to make it look over realistic and you don't change the damn plot.

You don't show the face of a main villain that was always a mystery at first damn minutes.

It's funny that people think this one is worse than the original. The original kind of raped the cartoon in terms of everything. Gadget wasn't nearly as bumbling, Penny didn't do much, and they revealed Dr. Claws fucking face in the first third of the movie.

The second one...is still pretty bad. But it's a shit ton better than the first. With the exception of G2, this one FELT like the cartoon and French Stewart was 100x better than Broderick.

Although the sequel was more closer to the animated series in terms of characterization, the script was so bad it was painful to sit through. And the cgi gadgets looked more like something out of a Dr. Seuss movie, not an Inspector Gadget movie. French Stewart was downright annoying.

Against all the odds, I prefer the first film. It may lack a lot of the things the cartoon had, but at least it has a tolerable script and realistic looking gadgets.

Not showing Dr. Claw's face is a direct reference to how it was never shown in the cartoon. Gadget being not as smart about the situation is also closer to how he was in the show. The firs one had a better plot, but I think the second was more faithful to the cartoon.

This was a weird sequal. They should of made an Inspector Gadget 2 where Matthew Broderick and the original cast return. Maybe something like where Gadget and Brenda Bradford prepare to get married but than Sanford Scolex/Dr. Claw breaks out and tries to get revenge on Gadget and maybe Sikes for betraying him or something like that. Matthew Broderick was a better Inspector Gadget than French Stewart.

I really enjoyed the first one as a kid. The second one was a huge turn off because French Stewart doesn't look nearly as comical and friendly as Matthew Broderick does. That, plus the absence of any of the original cast (even Penny is played by a different actress). Also, this one is ridiculously over-the-top silly compared to the first one.

Oh, and let's not forget: why the hell is the Gadgetmobile PURPLE? White was an awesome color.

As a fan of the original show, I have to disagree with people saying that Matthew Broderick was better, and that it sucks, etc etc. I felt that French Stewart did a better job of playing Gadget that Matthew, and that it was MORE true to the cartoon than the first one. The first one felt like Gadget Begins, without the stuff that made Batman Begins a Batman movie.

Not to put down Don Adams classic portrayal, but the character was too stupid to believe. Broderick made Gadget more human, who still made mistakes, but could actually get things done without a lot of assistence from Penny.
