my head unit only has front and rea outputs witch is great for my 4 channel amp,how ever now i want to add a mono amp, would it be safe and most important will it sound good if i use the pre amp out puts on my amp since i have no more to spear in my head unit? my amp is an infinty 475a and it has this to pre amp out puts just sitting there, thanks for posting vids, good job
@SonicElectronixTV Hey thank you for this great video i was wondering the fuse is in place to stop the battery from short circuiting i understand that but if i was to blow a fuse would it do any damage to the parts i have installed? Thanks
i have a crunch ground pounder of 1200wtt an 2 12 jackhammers an i have the amp on the back of the sub box but it keeps heating up and it turns the system off what can i do to stop that
@zomerwtcrew You might want to consider relocating your amplifier. It is always ideal to mount the sub in a place where it can recieve the best heat dissipation possible. Try mounting on the back of your seat or another suitable location that will allow you to mount the amplifier vertically.
@SonicElectronixTV thanks dude i mounted my amp on the same place but like with little wood sticks between the amp and the sub box and it lets the heat go away !
my order to sonicelectronicx is not yet responsing???i dont even know what is happening with my items??did it shipped or what?? here is my id order (1407129) ive been waiting for 2days for response if my package is shipped or what?? im here at japan..pls response..
I've noticed there's a video in input on the back of my Sony XAV62BT. If I hook up a cable to that to my iPhone 4 or other device to that input, will I be able to see the contents on my deck's screen?
I'm getting a Sony XAV 60 double din and I'm just wondering if that deck has a remote turn on wire that needs to be connected to the amp as well? If I wanted to extend that wire what gauge wire would I have to use?
@SonicElectronixTV Hi thanks so much for the reply! I actually got the Sony XAV-62BT instead which I originally thought was the XAV-60 lol. Is it still the same 18 gauge wire that is needed?
@sonicelectronixtv thank you very much i agree but i need some bass in my life , one more question is it always better to go with a CEA COMPLIANT amp?
@ricoswell1 Yes, it is ussually better to go with a CEA compliant amplifier. They have power ratings that are tested, accurate, and not exaggerate. However, there are a select few brands that are not CEA compliant and are still good quality such as Earthquake Sound.
I have all my amp equipment set up but im underpowering my subs until my new amp comes in.. my question is my headunit has a sub setting of -10 to +10 is it best to leave this setting at -10 or crank it up to 0 ? I have two 12 hifonics subs 600 watts rms each but a cheap leftover amp i had on it now only getting 150 rms each to them...
@ricoswell1 Our suggestion to you would be to not play the subwoofers at all until you get an amplifier with the required wattage. However, we know what its like to have no bass so we would suggest that if you are going to play them, keep the seeing around -5 to 0.
@jasienhoesein We would suggest using any high current 12V battery to power up your amplifier. You could technically use a rechargeable battery the current will more than likely not be enough to properly run the amplifier.
@angelcruz1793 If you want to have an additional battery just for the amp then yeah that's totally fine. Just make sure you get the correct wiring kit and a strong enough battery for your audio system.
SonicElectronixTV i have a 1200watt 2 channel performance tecknique amp and a 12 inch kicker cvr with 400rms and a 800watt peak right now i have it bridged and i have the sub in a sealed box what is the best way to wire up my sub to get the most bass out of it thanks
i need help!!! okay i have a boss nx109dc subwoofer and a performance technique 1200Whatt amp and the sub says its 1300rms 2600 peak and my sub makes a clipping noise when i turn my volume up just a little it sounds okay when its barley turned up but too loud and it starts clipping. my buddy has the same sub and it sounds great whaat am i doing wrong?? please help im new at working with systems and i dont have that much money to get it professionally tuned any help would be greatly aprieciated
@tyronebiggumsish Check your amp setting and make sure your gain is set properly. Set your bass freq and low pass filter first. Turn the bass eq and level all the way down. On your headunit turn the volume all the way up, then slowly start turning your level up, when you hear distortion stop and turn it down a notch. If the amp still clips then its because the amp is not strong enough for the woofer.
@SonicElectronixTV how do you put a subwoofer set and stuff into a house not into a car? please explain thorugh private message or reply to this comment
this is a really good clear video, but it doesnt tell you such things that when in the car the RCA and remote cable should run the opposite side to the 12v power cable. but awesome!
I have the same amp, installed it today with jl 8wt , however when i turn the ignition on the protection light doesnt turn on, it just sort of blinks like twice and thats it. when i turn the ignition of it makes a little noise like it switches of. HELP?!
@lama101 I have never heard of an 8WT, did you mean 8w3 or 8w7? The switching noise is actually pretty normal. Its common for the amp to make that sort of noise when being turned off or on. The blinking lights could be due to a funky impedance, make sure you are running the correct impedance. Something is messing with the protection circuitry and thus the blinking lights. Does the amp stay on? and work properly? Also check your wiring and fuses. Make sure ground and power aren't making contact.
@SonicElectronixTV i meant 8w7 typing mistake. As far as it looks all of the wiring is correct, I have checked and replaced the 40A fuse in the amp too. The amp doesnt stay on or work, the security light blinks literaly once or twice and thats it no other signs of life. I have used a bare metal bolt in the boot to ground to
@lama101 Hate to say it but you might have a defective amplifier. You can take it to your longer installer to get it bench tested if you like. Well you are under powering the sub but that doesn't matter because JL subs work fine when under powered. It really does sound like you have a bad amplifier.
@SonicElectronixTV 1 thing i didnt mention was that there was no remote turn on wire fastening bolt with the amp so I used a normal non gold bolt, do you think this might be causing the problem?
@SonicElectronixTV I fixed it now it was actually a bad connection between the remote turn on wire and amp, thanks for the help anyway tho, appreciate it
@SonicElectronixTV i need help!!! okay i have a boss nx109dc subwoofer and a performance technique 1200Whatt amp and the sub says its 1300rms 2600 peak and my sub makes a clipping noise when i turn my volume up just a little it sounds okay when its barley turned up but too loud and it starts clipping. my buddy has the same sub and it sounds great whaat am i doing wrong?? please help im new at working with systems and i dont have that much money to get it professionally tuned
i have a question..... after all that is done when i go to hook back up the ground on the battery it sparks and blew my fuses in my amp.. i tried again and same thing happened and my amp smelled really bad.. it still works but there is something rattling around inside and idk if it messed it up or what... please help
@schmidtyy616 I would really suggest taking your amplifier into a professional. Sounds like the amp is internally damaged and you don't want a blown fuse to spark the amp on fire or even your car. Make sure you have an in-line fuse, this will protect the amplifier from blowing fuses. You are getting too much power to the amp and thus blowing your fuses. The in-line fuse should blow before the other fuses do, this protect the amp and car in situations like this.
I have a question, i just bought the StreetWires ZN3KI-04 4 AWG Amplifier Install Kit from you, i have 2 12inch kickers in the kicker box, so my question is what kind of speaker wires do i get? because my amp kit did not come with any. thank you
I have 2 15 L5 Kickers in a ported box already with a brutus 1600 w amp, i need to buy the amp kit but dont know with what gauge wire should i go with im just guessing 4 but i dont know if that is the right size and really what is the difference.
@amar455 If your amplifier is the Hifonics BXi 1610D, it will require a 4awg power and ground cable. If you can fit any larger, we recommend trying to do so. The bigger the wire, the more amperage can be drawn from your battery. If you use a smaller than recommend power and ground size, you will be bottle-necking the amplifier output abilities and you can potentially damage some internal components on the amp.
I was planning on getting my first amp/sub combo, but i want to buy them seperate because i will already have a box. If I want two 8" subs and an amp what would you recomend I get to hit hard
@dvonlangen Without knowing your enclosure dimensions, this is only a recommendation. I would go with two Alpine SWR-843D subs and the Massive Audio N2 amplifier. Run the subs to a final impedance of 1 ohm , this will hit hard. Alpine Type-R subwoofer are known for having really good bass and the amplifier is a solid dependable amplifier.
@xXBIGxBAREXx I am guessing you are referring to the SEX series. If so then no you should not run 3 of those subs onto this one amp. The amplifier will not produce enough power and will greatly under power your subwoofers. Now if you with the Dual 2 ohm subs you can run them to a final impedance of 1.33 ohms. You will still be under powering the sub but at least not by that much. You could also go with the BRZ2100.1D this will give a little more power than the XTX3000.1D at 1.33 ohms
@mel23jordan Yes you can run two SD12's on a 2-channel amp. You will have to run them at the bridged impedance or at 2 ohms each. The Kicker DX300.2 will be the perfect amplifier to get. Its not too expensive and its a really reliable amplifier. As long as you can either do 200 at 2 ohm x 2 channels or 350 at 4 ohms x 1 channel bridged you will have no problems.
I got a random question, I got two 12" 400w rms kicker slim lines and I have no clue on what amp to run can I use a monoblock or do i have to find a 2channel that is big enough to run both subs?
@BlueAllJ No you can use a monoblock . I would recommend the Kenwood KAC-9105D, this amplifier will pretty much cover you if you have the single 4 ohm subs or the single 2 ohm subs. It will provide enough power to properly have the subwoofers sounding their best. If you want a good 2-channel amplifier go with the Boston-Acoustics-GT-2300. This ampl will provide enough power at either 2 ohms or 4 ohms.
I'm in a bit of a pickle. Iv properly connected every wire except the speaker output wire to the sub box. There in a wierd rectangular shape and say both + and - on each slot (speaker slot one. Speaker slot 2). It's a alpine pdx 1.1000 . Where do I get these if I don't have them!!??
@TheHemlen If you don't have RCA preamp outputs then you have some options. You can go with a sound processor like the reQ-5 from MTX or the ZX10SUM8 from Kicker. These will enhance your factory sound and also provide you with some RCA preamp outputs. Another option would be a Line-Out converter like the PAC SNI-35 or the Stinger SGN11. These allow you add RCA output to your headunit by splicing into the speaker wires. Either of these options would be a great solution to your problem.
I also have another question if you don't mind. My brother has a cheap vr3 amp. This amp has the red protect light on. Would there be a way to cut it off without bringing it to a shop? I've seen it done, just can't recall how. Thanks.
Before I hooked it back up I made new, more secure ground and power connections. So I figured that wasn't it. I hooked each up individually to test them. One worked the other didn't. What happened was the input aux on one had wiggled free from the actual board panel. I'm in the process of re-soldering it as we speak.
@albert2einstein Yeah loose connections can make a world of difference. Let us know if the re-soldering works. I am glad that you found out what the problem, it can be a real bummer when you just can't find the problem and you end up having to buy new equipment.
Yes. I have a dual-port four speaker box. Which I can use two speakers and leave one side open. I recently had two had two speakers hooked up in the box. Each powered by a separate amp. To get to my question. As can be seen in my video the speakers were loud and did sound good. But I disconnected them the other day to to detail my truck and ever since I hooked them back up they've been hitting the same as normal on volume 1-10 give or take. But when I try to cut it up past that the begin to sou
@albert2einstein If they were sounding fine before and now they don't all we can suggest is check to make sure all connections are solid and secure. Make sure you didn't accidentally change your amplifier settings or accidentally caused any cracks on your enclosure. If the enclosure is leaking air the sound could be distorted and muffled.I would just double check your amp setting and make sure you have them wired to the correct impedance.
Thanks for the vid. I have a few questions, if I may. I'm installing 1 5-channel amp to power 4 speakers and a sub. I will be splicing into the blue remote wire for the amp turn-on...do I need to install a fuse to protect the HU's remote turn-on wire/circuit, or is that only when you connect several devices to the remote circuit? Also, the HU only has a single set of RCA outputs, but amp has several inputs. Am I going to lose audio signal by using a bunch of Y Adapters at the amp?
@WermGut No you will not need a fuse for the Headunit's remote turn-on. If you use a bunch of Y adapters your signal will lose strength and have a higher possibility for distortion. The best solution for this would be a signal processor, something like the MTX Audio reQ5 or Kicker's ZX10SUM8. What this does is provide RCA outputs so that you have a cleaner and stronger signal. Y adapters are still ok to use but like we mentioned before they aren't the best thing to use.
@SonicElectronixTV Thanks & I want 2 believe you, but there's a lot of mixed opinion w issue of Y adapters & loss. Perry, of Basic Care Audio Electronics, takes an alternate position. I respect your knowledge w/ car audio, but I've always trusted Perry's Advice, too. Another person put it this way "Relate it to wiring components 2 your battery. If you wire something to your battery (like an amp), does it half the voltage 2 each component? No. Same thing w/your RCA outputs, It won't half voltage."
@WermGut This is true, and everyone will have a different opinion on the matter. They are correct in saying that it won't half the voltage and that is not what we were trying to convey. The problem is that with the us of multiple Y adapters your are having the signal to filter out more. With this the increase of distortion occurs and also cross interference that the Y adapters might pick up. Honestly why not try out the Y adapters and see if you like the way your sound is being produced.
@SonicElectronixTV Those processors are a good suggestion, but I have to watch my bottom line in cost. Here's what I have decided to do. I've used cheap Y adapters in the past with no problems. This time to be safe, I'm going w/some high quality Y adapters. I ordered a high power PAC LOC to compensate for the HU's single set of preamps. I'm using high quality twisted RCA runs & running signals on opposite side of power run. I will post an update after heat wave ends & allows for install;
@WermGut Sounds good, and like I said it should work just fine. Some people are just pickier about their signal clarity and at times it can really change the sound reproduction. The PAC LOC is a nice touch. Try it out and see how you feel and if you are not satisfied then you can always get a signal processor or a new head-unit ;)
@SonicElectronixTV Thanks again. Here's a question that probably has an easy answer...Does anybody make a plastic template with holes in it or something that would measure the gauge of unmarked speaker wire?
@WermGut What you are looking for is a gauge wheel, more specifically an American Standard Wire Gauge wheel. Unfortunately its not something we carry but do a google search and you should be able to find a few companies that do sell these things. They are pretty affordable, good luck with your search.
I have 2, 6 inch pyramid subwoofers 300 watts max and I am putting them in a small speaker box. I am using a 4 channel 40 watt sony amplifier to power it. I am running one speaker per channel. What i am wondering, is that will this amplifier power these speakers suficently without putting much load on the amplifier and not damaging the speakers.
@blakegorman69 Since we do not know the exact model numbers of your speakers and amplifier, we are not 100% positive that those products will go well together. The best way to match a subwoofer and amplifier is to match your RMS power rating and your impedance. Impedance is very important when pairing your subwoofer with a good quality amplifier.
i recently connected the same amp with two 10" inch cvr's but wen i did my Ignition fuse blew out and it wasnt doing this wen i had my diffrent amp...i wanted to know if the ground cable could have anything to do with this
@elAdanMarquez There could be a variety of reasons this happened. It may be that since you did not disconnect your negative battery terminal the fuses could have popped. Disconnecting your battery terminals prevents the potential for a short. Replace the fuse and if the problem persists it may be something else that could have caused it.
hi i have a 3 solo kicker classic 15 inch subs and i have all 0 gauge wire, what kind of amp do you recommend for them and what kind of double din head unit do you recommend? i have a 2008 chevy tahoe no 3rd row seat so space is not a problem
@FromThe3PointLine As far as an amplifier recommendation - first we'll need to know the specifications of your 3 Kicker 15" Solo Classics. Did you go with the Dual 4 Ohm, or Dual 2 Ohm model? This will effect your wiring options so we can know what type of amplifier to go with. As far as a double din head unit go, either JVC, Pioneer, or Kenwood would be good options to consider for good system adjustment options and great sound quality. The Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD specifically is a good choice.
@SonicElectronixTV I'm sorry I must have hit the"3" instead of the "4", but theywhere not solo classic, they where just kicker CVR but the black ones not the aluminum ones, sorry, they look alike at a quick glance, but all four are at 2 ohms and at 500RMS, so.for a total of 2000 RMS, I was thinking AudioQue 2200D 4 channel, I know a little bit more power is ok, but how much is too much? So what other 4channel amps can you recomend for me?
@FromThe3PointLine You don't need a 4 channel amplifier. With 4 Dual 2 ohm subwoofers you can wire them all together in series/parallel to a final impedance of 1 ohm. From here we would suggest the Hifonics Brutus BRZ2100.1D. It will output 2100 watts RMS at 1 ohm which will be more then enough for all subwoofers.
hi im new to this kind of thing, but ive always wanted a good solid bass amplifier. i have a sony hifi 8 inch 12 ohm 250 watt sub woofer. what would be a good easy smalll amp that could give me some pretty solid bass?
@xXLoVeRandHaTeRXx Is this is a home subwoofer? A 12 ohm subwoofer isn't compatible with a high majority of car amplifiers (if not practically all). The highest impedance most car amplifiers are rated for are 4 ohms. With two 8 ohm subwoofers it's possible to break this down to 4 ohms, but with a 12 ohm subwoofer it's much more difficult. to make compatible in a car audio environment.
@Ranger0861 yu dont need an amp but it would slap and it will have to be riged but the best way to do it for an 8" is have a one chanel amp probly about 500 wats
I have a 500W 12 in. (walmart) sub and new headunit etc. etc. right now but I'm looking for an amplifier? Any tips? I will probably be moving up with the bass a bit eventually so it should be somewhat of a good amp. but I'm also trying to save money... Any suggestions on amps?
@renemy2 Some good amps would be Kicker, MTX, Hifonics (Brutus Series), and Rockford Fosgate. What you want to consider is what type of sub do you have. DVC, SVC, 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm? Depending on which sub you have will determine which amp is best for you. If your sub is rated 500W RMS then try to match that as close as possible. If you are going to increase the bass then we suggest waiting so that you can just purchase one amp with the correct power rating.
@DynamiteSquad GND is for "Ground" Use the same size wire you used for the battery and connect the ground to a unpainted metal surface in your vehicle. Make sure the connection is extremely solid as the ground connection is extremely important. The remote lead connection you connected should be connected with a very small wire gauge (such as 14-16AWG) and should be connected to your head unit.
@MJandLilWayne Your best way to secure it is by using a ring terminal on the wire, and connecting the ring terminal to a bolt or use a screw to secure the ring terminal to an unpainted chassis surface. Make sure that the metal is unpainted so you can get the best possible continuity for power.
@DREADZ402 The Pioneer amplifier would be pushing a bit too much power. Try looking for an amplifier capable of pushing around 150-200W of RMS power (Don't pay attention to Peak, or Max power, these figures are usually much tougher to look at to match up a subwoofer and amplifier.
@Ranger0861 Most 8" subwoofers will range from 150W RMS to 200W RMS, depending on the make and model of the sub. Most people will tell you that no amplifier is needed because of the low wattage. However this is not true, your head unit does not have sufficient power output to safely and correctly run a subwoofer. Since most 8" subs are Single 4 ohm Voice coils subs, you can actually get a decent 2-channel amplifier and run it at the bridge impedance which should provide enough power to the sub.
@DREADZ402 It's always ideal to try and match up the subwoofer and amplifier. A 12" Comp requires 150W RMS to run at full potential. At this point you have two options, you can go with a Kicker DX125.2 and run the subwoofer at the bridged impedance at 125W RMS. Your other option would be going with a Kicker DX250.1 and running the subwoofer to an unbridged 4 ohms at 140W RMS. The difference here is the class of the amplifies, a Class D will always give better quality than a Class A/B amplifier.
if i fit 2 FLI spekers in the rear of my car which are 200 watts each and 2 in the front also 200 watts each. what amp will i need?? please help me lol the speakers are all 4 ohms each i was thinking of giving each speaker a dedicated channel? is that right?
@SharmanLtd The FLI Audio FU720.4 is a great matchup as far as brand and power output. Each speaker deserves it's own channel, which is why the FU720.4 is a four-channel amplifier and should match-up work perfectly with the speakers. Try to verify the RMS power handling is close with the amplifiers before going with it, because MAX power is hard to match-up with.
@racermike92 I could be wrong, but I believe to turn the amp off you would run your remote wire from the amp to a remote switch. From the remote switch you would run that to the remote on the radio unit.
im trying to match an amplifier with my 2 subs. i know that its a 2 c hannel mono 1220w amp, so i was wondering if i will need to wire both subs to the amp, or will i need to connect both subs together in series e.c.t im thinking that i wont need it because there are 2 subs and its a 2 channel, and its mono, so i wont have any problems with nasty nasty wiring jobs :( am i correct?
@addictedtozombies Let's try to clarify, do you have a 2-channel amplifier or a monoblock (single channel) amplifier? Monoblocks will sometimes have additional speaker terminals to help with wiring, so this may lead you to think it's a 2-channel amp. You most likely will not want to connect the speakers in series, but it truly does depend on their impedance, and the wattage they are capable of handling. What subwoofers do you have? What amplifier are you using? Send us a message.
@hbslant Great amplifier! As far as two subwoofers with a monoblock amplifier, this will work fine. You'll just need to connect the subwoofers together before connecting to your amplifier. There's a special technique you'll need to use, depending on how many voice coils each subwoofer has, and if they are 4 ohm or 2 ohm. Use our subwoofer wiring diagram on our website with that information and you'll get an easy to use diagram that shows how to wire up your subs to the Kicker ZX750.1.
what do i do for multiple amp setup for example i want one for subwoofer and 2 for speakers how run my remote wire then all in the same hole of the headunit?? also i wanna ask if i just put 2 cocaxial speakers in a 2 channel will i still recieve a 4ohm load?
@thazeekster608 To run the remote lead wire you can join all of them at the head unit like you stated. Also, as long as the speakers are 4 ohms and you run them on a separate channel each they will remain at 4 ohms.
how do you know an amp is working i have a sony xplode 800 watt on a single 1200 pioneer subwoofer but its not playing and im sure everything is hooked up properly the light on the amp comes on but it makes a humming noise any suggestion ?
how do you know an amp is working i have a sony xplode 800 watt on a single 1200 pioneer subwoofer but its not playing and im sure everything is hooked up properly the light on the amp comes on but it makes a humming noise any suggestion?
@IsaacMetalBoy Have your system checked by a professional. Depending on how loud the humming is, your amplifier may be defective. If the humming is not significantly loud, but it's there, it sounds like the amp is turning on but may either be going into protection because it senses it a short or a blown speaker. Also check your ground! Make sure you have an extremely solid ground point to prevent the power supplied to the amp from bottle necking.
@xxTHExxABYSSxx How are you planning to get power? Car Audio equipment runs off of DC, and home audio power is AC. Connecting AC power to car audio equipment will damage the equipment and will be quite dangerous. You'll need to use a Power Inverter to convert AC power to DC power. A good product to do this with, would be the SHURiKEN SK-BC12V. Just use the search bar on our website to find it.
i plan on using a battery or 2 depending on how many speakers and subs i want to use
if i find a good ground in my room like a piece of metal somewhere i dont know really because im not that educated ob grounding, but if i just get a battery, an amp, a head unit and a subwoofer could i set it up in my room like that and just run it like?
@xxTHExxABYSSxx If you were to connect it like that, your battery wouldn't have a way to recharge itself. You'll need a power inverter of some kind that will recharge your battery. Usually in a car, your alternator will recharge the batteries. If you use a 50A computer power supply along with a battery like the Kinetik HC600, or a SHURiKEN SK-BT35, that should have no problem powering that system. Good luck!
@SonicElectronixTV I've replaced by front speakers with aftermarket speakers, but I was wondering if I should now replace my back stock speakers, or get an amp.
@JakeEricson You may want to consider an aftermarket stereo. These can add some amplification to your speakers compared to a stock radio.
If you already have an aftermarket stereo, or you're looking for a larger upgrade for sound, by all means go with an aftermarket amplifier. Replacing your back stock speakers might give you a small upgrade in sound quality, but you'll notice better results with an amp or an aftermarket receiver. Back speakers are just your fill for the audio.
@soska247 Unfortunately we don't have reach across the entire US with installation shops. My recommendation when looking for an installation shop is to carefully talk with whoever will work on your car and ask a bit about their credentials. Installers who have plenty of experience will be more than happy to tell you of their jobs that they are proud of, and these are the types of installers you want working on your car. Good luck getting your products installed!
@araymark For sure. The speaker wire is silver-tinned OFC copper, similar to what some home theater speaker wire is. The primary difference is the jacket. Kicker designed this wire's jacker for in-car installations. Home theater wire has a jacket more suited for the home. However, the wire inside will work for home or car. We know a lot of people that use car speaker wire for home audio applications!
@jonee944 That's a great question, actually! You can essentially hook up a car subwoofer to a PC, but it takes a little more work than you really need to get good sound from your PC. You can use a AC to DC power inverter to invert power from your house wiring and use a car amplifier and car subwoofer connected together just like in a car. To get the audio signal from your PC to your amplifier you can run a 3.5mm to RCA cable from your PC to your amplifier.
@SonicElectronixTV okay! so if i want to start from square 1, what cables, inverters etc do i have to buy so i can connect them to my pc? Thanks anyway!
i got a 1200 watt sub with a built in amp, only problem is i aint got a fuse for it, anybody kno what size fuse i would need? im new to this, been tryin to fit my own sub for months now, cant afford to get it done properly haha
you would have to get at least a 35 amp fuse or higher to put in the amp. if its a performance technique amplifier you will need at least a 60 amp fuse or higher. preferably an 80 or 100 so it doesnt burn out
@tPACoO You can buy them in a lot of different sizes. Amplifier kits tend to have around 17-20ft of Power Cable. We also have separately sold pieces of pre-cut wires, and also spools ranging from 25 ft, 50 ft all the way up to 125 ft
@SonicElectronixTV installing my aftermarket audio system, i ran into a little problem. ive got two amps and thus two remote wires. but, my deck only has one blue an white wire fo the remote. whats ure advise in this situation? i thought of just connecting both remote wires to the one blue and white wire. would that work? is there a better way?... if anyone also ran into this problem and found a way around it, feel free ta respond
@XDavid2011X You can connect both amplifiers remote lead wires to the head units blue wire. Using a relay will help properly distribute a good 12v signal, but the remote lead should get enough signal if you just use a crimp cap and connect all 3 wires.
what if i put battery, amp and those woofer at the back in the storage area and connect my i-pod to amp input it will work or not because i dont want to mess up with car battery and don't want to do wireing. it's new car
what charges that battery you are using for the amplifer?

i have a crunch ground pounder of 1200wtt an 2 12 jackhammers an i have the amp on the back of the sub box but it keeps heating up and it turns the system off what can i do to stop that
zomerwtcrew 1 month ago
@zomerwtcrew You might want to consider relocating your amplifier. It is always ideal to mount the sub in a place where it can recieve the best heat dissipation possible. Try mounting on the back of your seat or another suitable location that will allow you to mount the amplifier vertically.
SonicElectronixTV 1 month ago
@SonicElectronixTV thanks dude i mounted my amp on the same place but like with little wood sticks between the amp and the sub box and it lets the heat go away !

@sonicelectronixtv thank you very much i agree but i need some bass in my life , one more question is it always better to go with a CEA COMPLIANT amp?
ricoswell1 2 months ago
@ricoswell1 Yes, it is ussually better to go with a CEA compliant amplifier. They have power ratings that are tested, accurate, and not exaggerate. However, there are a select few brands that are not CEA compliant and are still good quality such as Earthquake Sound.

I have all my amp equipment set up but im underpowering my subs until my new amp comes in.. my question is my headunit has a sub setting of -10 to +10 is it best to leave this setting at -10 or crank it up to 0 ? I have two 12 hifonics subs 600 watts rms each but a cheap leftover amp i had on it now only getting 150 rms each to them...
ricoswell1 2 months ago
@ricoswell1 Our suggestion to you would be to not play the subwoofers at all until you get an amplifier with the required wattage. However, we know what its like to have no bass so we would suggest that if you are going to play them, keep the seeing around -5 to 0.

tyronebiggumsish 4 months ago
@tyronebiggumsish Check your amp setting and make sure your gain is set properly. Set your bass freq and low pass filter first. Turn the bass eq and level all the way down. On your headunit turn the volume all the way up, then slowly start turning your level up, when you hear distortion stop and turn it down a notch. If the amp still clips then its because the amp is not strong enough for the woofer.

lama101 4 months ago in playlist lama101's favorites
@lama101 I have never heard of an 8WT, did you mean 8w3 or 8w7? The switching noise is actually pretty normal. Its common for the amp to make that sort of noise when being turned off or on. The blinking lights could be due to a funky impedance, make sure you are running the correct impedance. Something is messing with the protection circuitry and thus the blinking lights. Does the amp stay on? and work properly? Also check your wiring and fuses. Make sure ground and power aren't making contact.
SonicElectronixTV 4 months ago
@SonicElectronixTV i meant 8w7 typing mistake. As far as it looks all of the wiring is correct, I have checked and replaced the 40A fuse in the amp too. The amp doesnt stay on or work, the security light blinks literaly once or twice and thats it no other signs of life. I have used a bare metal bolt in the boot to ground to
lama101 4 months ago
@lama101 Hate to say it but you might have a defective amplifier. You can take it to your longer installer to get it bench tested if you like. Well you are under powering the sub but that doesn't matter because JL subs work fine when under powered. It really does sound like you have a bad amplifier.
SonicElectronixTV 4 months ago
@SonicElectronixTV 1 thing i didnt mention was that there was no remote turn on wire fastening bolt with the amp so I used a normal non gold bolt, do you think this might be causing the problem?

@lama101 No, you could have used nickel or silver, its just a conductor. It really does seem like you have a bad amp, I am sorry.

schmidtyy616 4 months ago
@schmidtyy616 I would really suggest taking your amplifier into a professional. Sounds like the amp is internally damaged and you don't want a blown fuse to spark the amp on fire or even your car. Make sure you have an in-line fuse, this will protect the amplifier from blowing fuses. You are getting too much power to the amp and thus blowing your fuses. The in-line fuse should blow before the other fuses do, this protect the amp and car in situations like this.

amar455 5 months ago
@amar455 If your amplifier is the Hifonics BXi 1610D, it will require a 4awg power and ground cable. If you can fit any larger, we recommend trying to do so. The bigger the wire, the more amperage can be drawn from your battery. If you use a smaller than recommend power and ground size, you will be bottle-necking the amplifier output abilities and you can potentially damage some internal components on the amp.

I was planning on getting my first amp/sub combo, but i want to buy them seperate because i will already have a box. If I want two 8" subs and an amp what would you recomend I get to hit hard
dvonlangen 5 months ago
@dvonlangen Without knowing your enclosure dimensions, this is only a recommendation. I would go with two Alpine SWR-843D subs and the Massive Audio N2 amplifier. Run the subs to a final impedance of 1 ohm , this will hit hard. Alpine Type-R subwoofer are known for having really good bass and the amplifier is a solid dependable amplifier.

Can I run 3 10" RE SE 4 ohms on the RE XTX-3000.1 amp? How much power would each sub be getting?
xXBIGxBAREXx 6 months ago
@xXBIGxBAREXx I am guessing you are referring to the SEX series. If so then no you should not run 3 of those subs onto this one amp. The amplifier will not produce enough power and will greatly under power your subwoofers. Now if you with the Dual 2 ohm subs you can run them to a final impedance of 1.33 ohms. You will still be under powering the sub but at least not by that much. You could also go with the BRZ2100.1D this will give a little more power than the XTX3000.1D at 1.33 ohms

Can i run my 500watt peak dual sd12's on a regular 2 channel amp?
mel23jordan 6 months ago
@mel23jordan Yes you can run two SD12's on a 2-channel amp. You will have to run them at the bridged impedance or at 2 ohms each. The Kicker DX300.2 will be the perfect amplifier to get. Its not too expensive and its a really reliable amplifier. As long as you can either do 200 at 2 ohm x 2 channels or 350 at 4 ohms x 1 channel bridged you will have no problems.
SonicElectronixTV 6 months ago
I got a random question, I got two 12" 400w rms kicker slim lines and I have no clue on what amp to run can I use a monoblock or do i have to find a 2channel that is big enough to run both subs?
BlueAllJ 6 months ago
@BlueAllJ No you can use a monoblock . I would recommend the Kenwood KAC-9105D, this amplifier will pretty much cover you if you have the single 4 ohm subs or the single 2 ohm subs. It will provide enough power to properly have the subwoofers sounding their best. If you want a good 2-channel amplifier go with the Boston-Acoustics-GT-2300. This ampl will provide enough power at either 2 ohms or 4 ohms.

TheHemlen 7 months ago
@TheHemlen If you don't have RCA preamp outputs then you have some options. You can go with a sound processor like the reQ-5 from MTX or the ZX10SUM8 from Kicker. These will enhance your factory sound and also provide you with some RCA preamp outputs. Another option would be a Line-Out converter like the PAC SNI-35 or the Stinger SGN11. These allow you add RCA output to your headunit by splicing into the speaker wires. Either of these options would be a great solution to your problem.

Yes, soldering the connection back to the board fixed the problem. But I decided to only run one amp.

Before I hooked it back up I made new, more secure ground and power connections. So I figured that wasn't it. I hooked each up individually to test them. One worked the other didn't. albert2einstein 7 months ago
SonicElectronixTV 7 months ago
Thanks for the vid. I have a few questions, if I may. I'm installing 1 5-channel amp to power 4 speakers and a sub. I will be splicing into the blue remote wire for the amp turn-on...do I need to install a fuse to protect the HU's remote turn-on wire/circuit, or is that only when you connect several devices to the remote circuit? Also, the HU only has a single set of RCA outputs, but amp has several inputs. Am I going to lose audio signal by using a bunch of Y Adapters at the amp?
Thank You.
WermGut 7 months ago
@WermGut No you will not need a fuse for the Headunit's remote turn-on. If you use a bunch of Y adapters your signal will lose strength and have a higher possibility for distortion. The best solution for this would be a signal processor, something like the MTX Audio reQ5 or Kicker's ZX10SUM8. What this does is provide RCA outputs so that you have a cleaner and stronger signal. Y adapters are still ok to use but like we mentioned before they aren't the best thing to use.
SonicElectronixTV 7 months ago
@SonicElectronixTV Thanks & I want 2 believe you, but there's a lot of mixed opinion w issue of Y adapters & loss. Perry, of Basic Care Audio Electronics, takes an alternate position. I respect your knowledge w/ car audio, but I've always trusted Perry's Advice, too. Another person put it this way "Relate it to wiring components 2 your battery. If you wire something to your battery (like an amp), does it half the voltage 2 each component? No. Same thing w/your RCA outputs, It won't half voltage."
WermGut 7 months ago
@WermGut This is true, and everyone will have a different opinion on the matter. They are correct in saying that it won't half the voltage and that is not what we were trying to convey. The problem is that with the us of multiple Y adapters your are having the signal to filter out more. With this the increase of distortion occurs and also cross interference that the Y adapters might pick up. Honestly why not try out the Y adapters and see if you like the way your sound is being produced.
SonicElectronixTV 7 months ago
@SonicElectronixTV Those processors are a good suggestion, but I have to watch my bottom line in cost. Here's what I have decided to do. I've used cheap Y adapters in the past with no problems. This time to be safe, I'm going w/some high quality Y adapters. I ordered a high power PAC LOC to compensate for the HU's single set of preamps. I'm using high quality twisted RCA runs & running signals on opposite side of power run. I will post an update after heat wave ends & allows for install;
Thanks
WermGut 7 months ago
@WermGut Sounds good, and like I said it should work just fine. Some people are just pickier about their signal clarity and at times it can really change the sound reproduction. The PAC LOC is a nice touch. Try it out and see how you feel and if you are not satisfied then you can always get a signal processor or a new head-unit ;)
SonicElectronixTV 7 months ago
@SonicElectronixTV Thanks again. Here's a question that probably has an easy answer...Does anybody make a plastic template with holes in it or something that would measure the gauge of unmarked speaker wire?
WermGut 7 months ago
@WermGut What you are looking for is a gauge wheel, more specifically an American Standard Wire Gauge wheel. Unfortunately its not something we carry but do a google search and you should be able to find a few companies that do sell these things. They are pretty affordable, good luck with your search.

What i am wondering, is that will this amplifier power these speakers suficently without putting much load on the amplifier and not damaging the speakers.
blakegorman69 7 months ago
@blakegorman69 Since we do not know the exact model numbers of your speakers and amplifier, we are not 100% positive that those products will go well together. The best way to match a subwoofer and amplifier is to match your RMS power rating and your impedance. Impedance is very important when pairing your subwoofer with a good quality amplifier.

elAdanMarquez 7 months ago
@elAdanMarquez There could be a variety of reasons this happened. It may be that since you did not disconnect your negative battery terminal the fuses could have popped. Disconnecting your battery terminals prevents the potential for a short. Replace the fuse and if the problem persists it may be something else that could have caused it.

hi i have a 3 solo kicker classic 15 inch subs and i have all 0 gauge wire, what kind of amp do you recommend for them and what kind of double din head unit do you recommend? i have a 2008 chevy tahoe no 3rd row seat so space is not a problem
FromThe3PointLine 7 months ago
@FromThe3PointLine As far as an amplifier recommendation - first we'll need to know the specifications of your 3 Kicker 15" Solo Classics. Did you go with the Dual 4 Ohm, or Dual 2 Ohm model? This will effect your wiring options so we can know what type of amplifier to go with. As far as a double din head unit go, either JVC, Pioneer, or Kenwood would be good options to consider for good system adjustment options and great sound quality. The Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD specifically is a good choice.
SonicElectronixTV 7 months ago
@SonicElectronixTV I'm sorry I must have hit the"3" instead of the "4", but theywhere not solo classic, they where just kicker CVR but the black ones not the aluminum ones, sorry, they look alike at a quick glance, but all four are at 2 ohms and at 500RMS, so.for a total of 2000 RMS, I was thinking AudioQue 2200D 4 channel, I know a little bit more power is ok, but how much is too much? So what other 4channel amps can you recomend for me?
FromThe3PointLine 7 months ago
@FromThe3PointLine You don't need a 4 channel amplifier. With 4 Dual 2 ohm subwoofers you can wire them all together in series/parallel to a final impedance of 1 ohm. From here we would suggest the Hifonics Brutus BRZ2100.1D. It will output 2100 watts RMS at 1 ohm which will be more then enough for all subwoofers.

hi im new to this kind of thing, but ive always wanted a good solid bass amplifier. i have a sony hifi 8 inch 12 ohm 250 watt sub woofer. what would be a good easy smalll amp that could give me some pretty solid bass?
xXLoVeRandHaTeRXx 8 months ago
@xXLoVeRandHaTeRXx Is this is a home subwoofer? A 12 ohm subwoofer isn't compatible with a high majority of car amplifiers (if not practically all). The highest impedance most car amplifiers are rated for are 4 ohms. With two 8 ohm subwoofers it's possible to break this down to 4 ohms, but with a 12 ohm subwoofer it's much more difficult. to make compatible in a car audio environment.

renemy2 9 months ago
@renemy2 Some good amps would be Kicker, MTX, Hifonics (Brutus Series), and Rockford Fosgate. What you want to consider is what type of sub do you have. DVC, SVC, 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm? Depending on which sub you have will determine which amp is best for you. If your sub is rated 500W RMS then try to match that as close as possible. If you are going to increase the bass then we suggest waiting so that you can just purchase one amp with the correct power rating.

im have a problem get my amp to turn on

DynamiteSquad 10 months ago
@DynamiteSquad GND is for "Ground" Use the same size wire you used for the battery and connect the ground to a unpainted metal surface in your vehicle. Make sure the connection is extremely solid as the ground connection is extremely important. The remote lead connection you connected should be connected with a very small wire gauge (such as 14-16AWG) and should be connected to your head unit.
SonicElectronixTV 9 months ago
How would you connect the ground to the chassis?
MJandLilWayne 10 months ago
@MJandLilWayne Your best way to secure it is by using a ring terminal on the wire, and connecting the ring terminal to a bolt or use a screw to secure the ring terminal to an unpainted chassis surface. Make sure that the metal is unpainted so you can get the best possible continuity for power.

I was wondering would a pioneer 760 watt would it be to much power for the sub and altenator?
DREADZ402 10 months ago
@DREADZ402 The Pioneer amplifier would be pushing a bit too much power. Try looking for an amplifier capable of pushing around 150-200W of RMS power (Don't pay attention to Peak, or Max power, these figures are usually much tougher to look at to match up a subwoofer and amplifier.
SonicElectronixTV 9 months ago
@SonicElectronixTV This may sound like a bumb question but. Do you need a amp to have (1) 8'' sub....????
Ranger0861 9 months ago

SharmanLtd 11 months ago
@SharmanLtd The FLI Audio FU720.4 is a great matchup as far as brand and power output. Each speaker deserves it's own channel, which is why the FU720.4 is a four-channel amplifier and should match-up work perfectly with the speakers. Try to verify the RMS power handling is close with the amplifiers before going with it, because MAX power is hard to match-up with.

can you make a video on how to wire a switch to turn the amp on and off if i just want to listen to the radio without the amp and sub thanks
racermike92 11 months ago
@racermike92 I could be wrong, but I believe to turn the amp off you would run your remote wire from the amp to a remote switch. From the remote switch you would run that to the remote on the radio unit.

im trying to match an amplifier with my 2 subs. i know that its a 2 c hannel mono 1220w amp, so i was wondering if i will need to wire both subs to the amp, or will i need to connect both subs together in series e.c.t im thinking that i wont need it because there are 2 subs and its a 2 channel, and its mono, so i wont have any problems with nasty nasty wiring jobs :( am i correct?
addictedtozombies 11 months ago
@addictedtozombies Let's try to clarify, do you have a 2-channel amplifier or a monoblock (single channel) amplifier? Monoblocks will sometimes have additional speaker terminals to help with wiring, so this may lead you to think it's a 2-channel amp. You most likely will not want to connect the speakers in series, but it truly does depend on their impedance, and the wattage they are capable of handling. What subwoofers do you have? What amplifier are you using? Send us a message.
SonicElectronixTV 11 months ago
what if i have a zx750.1 amp but with two subwoofers?
hbslant 1 year ago
@hbslant Great amplifier! As far as two subwoofers with a monoblock amplifier, this will work fine. You'll just need to connect the subwoofers together before connecting to your amplifier. There's a special technique you'll need to use, depending on how many voice coils each subwoofer has, and if they are 4 ohm or 2 ohm. Use our subwoofer wiring diagram on our website with that information and you'll get an easy to use diagram that shows how to wire up your subs to the Kicker ZX750.1.

what do i do for multiple amp setup for example i want one for subwoofer and 2 for speakers how run my remote wire then all in the same hole of the headunit?? also i wanna ask if i just put 2 cocaxial speakers in a 2 channel will i still recieve a 4ohm load?
thazeekster608 1 year ago
@thazeekster608 To run the remote lead wire you can join all of them at the head unit like you stated. Also, as long as the speakers are 4 ohms and you run them on a separate channel each they will remain at 4 ohms.

IsaacMetalBoy 1 year ago
@IsaacMetalBoy Have your system checked by a professional. Depending on how loud the humming is, your amplifier may be defective. If the humming is not significantly loud, but it's there, it sounds like the amp is turning on but may either be going into protection because it senses it a short or a blown speaker. Also check your ground! Make sure you have an extremely solid ground point to prevent the power supplied to the amp from bottle necking.
SonicElectronixTV 11 months ago
so if i can get all those components (battery(s),head unit, amp and subwoofer can i set it up in my room if i find a good ground?
xxTHExxABYSSxx 1 year ago
@xxTHExxABYSSxx How are you planning to get power? Car Audio equipment runs off of DC, and home audio power is AC. Connecting AC power to car audio equipment will damage the equipment and will be quite dangerous. You'll need to use a Power Inverter to convert AC power to DC power. A good product to do this with, would be the SHURiKEN SK-BC12V. Just use the search bar on our website to find it.
SonicElectronixTV 1 year ago
@SonicElectronixTV
i plan on using a battery or 2 depending on how many speakers and subs i want to use
if i find a good ground in my room like a piece of metal somewhere i dont know really because im not that educated ob grounding, but if i just get a battery, an amp, a head unit and a subwoofer could i set it up in my room like that and just run it like?
xxTHExxABYSSxx 1 year ago
@xxTHExxABYSSxx If you were to connect it like that, your battery wouldn't have a way to recharge itself. You'll need a power inverter of some kind that will recharge your battery. Usually in a car, your alternator will recharge the batteries. If you use a 50A computer power supply along with a battery like the Kinetik HC600, or a SHURiKEN SK-BT35, that should have no problem powering that system. Good luck!

@SonicElectronixTV ok, thanks allot, great help.

@SonicElectronixTV I've replaced by front speakers with aftermarket speakers, but I was wondering if I should now replace my back stock speakers, or get an amp.
JakeEricson 1 year ago
@JakeEricson You may want to consider an aftermarket stereo. These can add some amplification to your speakers compared to a stock radio.
If you already have an aftermarket stereo, or you're looking for a larger upgrade for sound, by all means go with an aftermarket amplifier. Replacing your back stock speakers might give you a small upgrade in sound quality, but you'll notice better results with an amp or an aftermarket receiver. Back speakers are just your fill for the audio.

i live in Denver CO.Do you know where is a good place to install this stuf, exept cartoys and bestbuy?
soska247 1 year ago
@soska247 Unfortunately we don't have reach across the entire US with installation shops. My recommendation when looking for an installation shop is to carefully talk with whoever will work on your car and ask a bit about their credentials. Installers who have plenty of experience will be more than happy to tell you of their jobs that they are proud of, and these are the types of installers you want working on your car. Good luck getting your products installed!

@soska247 tnx for advice,good channel.

@3:35 - will that speaker wire directly connected to the amp itself will work on a NON car amplifier?, let say power amp use for home theater.
araymark 1 year ago
@araymark For sure. The speaker wire is silver-tinned OFC copper, similar to what some home theater speaker wire is. The primary difference is the jacket. Kicker designed this wire's jacker for in-car installations. Home theater wire has a jacket more suited for the home. However, the wire inside will work for home or car. We know a lot of people that use car speaker wire for home audio applications!

Can you make a video on how to install fuse holder
kidkojo96 1 year ago
a stupid question but is it possible to connect the cars subwoofer to a PC?
jonee944 1 year ago
@jonee944 That's a great question, actually! You can essentially hook up a car subwoofer to a PC, but it takes a little more work than you really need to get good sound from your PC. You can use a AC to DC power inverter to invert power from your house wiring and use a car amplifier and car subwoofer connected together just like in a car. To get the audio signal from your PC to your amplifier you can run a 3.5mm to RCA cable from your PC to your amplifier.
SonicElectronixTV 1 year ago
@SonicElectronixTV okay! so if i want to start from square 1, what cables, inverters etc do i have to buy so i can connect them to my pc? Thanks anyway!

i got a 1200 watt sub with a built in amp, only problem is i aint got a fuse for it, anybody kno what size fuse i would need? im new to this, been tryin to fit my own sub for months now, cant afford to get it done properly haha
mclark455 1 year ago
you would have to get at least a 35 amp fuse or higher to put in the amp. if its a performance technique amplifier you will need at least a 60 amp fuse or higher. preferably an 80 or 100 so it doesnt burn out

how long do power cables come in? seeing that they have to connect to the battery and the amp.
tPACoO 1 year ago

XDavid2011X 1 year ago
@XDavid2011X You can connect both amplifiers remote lead wires to the head units blue wire. Using a relay will help properly distribute a good 12v signal, but the remote lead should get enough signal if you just use a crimp cap and connect all 3 wires.
