  • wow that is one fucking suped up laptop

  • what is that program your running at 6:00 ??

  • @wavsunlimited it's called cooliris

  • what did you do to get the 3d thing?

  • @ctheuploader Compiz Settings Manager

  • but will it blend?

  • Ubuntu 9.10 was my first Linux distro. Flash was such a pain to install for me back then.

  • @PandaEpic00785 Is it true that Ubuntu is becoming its own operating system and not GNU/Linux based?

  • Formatted my Vista comp, now I'm a Linux fan:D

  • This isn't real is it? ^^

  • @lafaspot, tell me the Song title please. maybe it's already asked / posted - don't judge me i'm just to lazy to search through all pages xP

  • Currently downloading Ubuntu 10.10 and looking forward to not use Vista!

  • Once you have fixed everything HOW do you get it to move that way? the mouse?

  • I think everything ubuntu needs is make it simple to use, we don't need all these effects when we use for work, It looks good but just for perfect computer.

  • OMG, I don't know how much Mb Ram to do something like in this clip

    (maybe at least 8gb, hahahaha)

  • @rebirthish lol(?)

you don't need that much RAM!... it's even possible with only 2GB.

  • @adaytoreforget

"Only 2 GB"? Uh, is some desktop effects take up 2 GB of system RAM PLUS your video card's resources (it's the only reason the RAM would be used for video) then linux can kiss my ass.

  • @codeythesilent

well i dunno all features of Linux/Ubuntu, just switched from Win 7

i thought it would be easier to handle in case of an Android Device.

Android SDK and such don't realy run very well at Win7 and my Win7 is a *secure copy* so can't update.. xP

But i'm learning Linux/Unix now and hopefully i'll expand my knowledge^^

btw. i got 8GB RAM and 1GB graphic memory, i just inserted only 2GB RAM and the 1GB or graphic - it runs very very smooth and it's fast not lagging or such.

  • I have got Linux Ubuntu 9,10 , this is super system!

  • Comment removed

  • it's nice... but it appears to be lagging... would be better with a graphics card rather than integrated...

  • Can I have linux ans windows 7 on the same PC ?

  • @r0rozx yeth

but i got mac so i can run all 3 at the same time lolz

    mac is boss but expensive:D

  • @r0rozx yes, you can either dual boot or use a program like vmware or virtualbox

  • Not another Compiz video... Facepalm.png

I hate being recommended compiz videos.

  • linux > vista

  • @FlipGuardian not just that but linux pwns windows entirely along with osx

  • Great song and video I'm diggin it

  • we seriously need to stop telling Windows users about Compiz-Fusion. Doing so makes them think that this is what Linux is all about.

In fact, this is just some shitty useless desktop manager. Linux is way better than this and is much more than a simple gadget.

It's an OS which is safer, faster, more stable and more sophisticated in every single way. It's not idiot-proof YET but eventually it will be. Only idiots can actually ruin such amazing kernel.

  • ¿Cuántos MB de tarjeta gráfica tienes?

  • wow very impressive! not possible with windows!

  • Very well timed with the 3D and the music. Kudos.

  • Ok thank

  • What has all that stuff, that you are showing in your video, to do with Ubuntu directly???

  • sexy. that is all.

  • can this laqptop be change from ubuntu to vista or windows xp

  • hey i have a really old WinXP desktop with 512mb RAM and 1.3ghz AMD processor. Can anyone tell me if i would be able to run Ubuntu? Also, what is VirtualBox?

  • @xEpiphoneSG virtual box is a program that lets you run an entire os without formatting your hard drive or doing anything that will change your computer settings.

    try it :)

  • @MrJoe915 Making sure that you have enough RAM to run two OS at a time with decent fluency...

  • BEST OS EVER, I use it for 2 years now, and it's awesome :)

  • Linux lml

  • how to enable 3d desktop?

  • @TzeSiR21Aek use compiz

  • Compiz rocks, but I prefer OpenBox. More minimal, and doesn't have all the fluf I don't need or want. But isn't great I can make that choice. I don't have to take the default choices, unlike windows - where you can't change the window manager or other low level details.

  • muito bom

  • lol, thank god i saw your video, that Miro Player, i didin't know about it and it's way better than the other players i had over the years :D

  • so you cant use iTunes with it?

  • @jneilan38 No iTunes, but Rythmbox can manage ur iPhone/Touch well since Ubuntu 10.04

  • how do you do the 3d desktop?

  • @faxmanloveswaffles compiz

@jneilan38 iTunes isn't made for Linux, thank Apple for that. There may be ways to run it in wine but there are better media applications for Linux but Apple tries to make their hardware incompatible with open source software. My iPod battery is junk (thanks apple, I won't buy another) but prior to that I was able to sync with free software. Call Apple and ask if they support an alternative, I would for you if it weren't just a youtube comment.

  • @faxmanloveswaffles Menu, Preferences, Appearance, Visual Effects

  • how to get the tools down in my desktop???? please help

  • @ajrb49 Install the Avant Window Navigator or Cairo Dock from Software Center or Synaptic.

  • Very cool

  • es una belleza !!!

    Saludos !!!

  • what's the name of this movie you played at the beginning, great vid, thanks

  • What do you want to show ? You showed to many things which has no relationship with compiz in Ubuntu 's Gnome Desktop ,You even showed the 3D flash wall in firefox ........

  • Im wantering when are they going to make some more beutiful menus. it's the only think that reminds windows 95.

  • wow, amazing .. increible me encanta :)

  • one thing a hate about linux is finding the drivers...

  • @lemler33 I have a mostly up2date hardware, and i didn't need drivers. 9.10/10.04 manage everything for me very well: TV Tuner, Printer, WLAN, VGA, etc.

You only need driver legacy or rarely supported scanner/printer and WLAN chip. Anyway, Ubuntu has awesome support and community.

  • cool ... lol

  • Muito bom

  • What if I install this OS on my main drive will it wipe out the files that I have on my recovery disk drive too? I was about to format all the the files on my main drive because I wanted to use ubuntu. But the problem is I wasn't sure if it's gonna delete my recovery partition files too! pleasse answer me soon!

  • @chixyman You can install Linux within your current OS. I've done it and if you want to delete it just go to add/remove software if you have Windows

  • @player510 thats not linux... that ubuntu which is a form of linux, just 1 form then again there all the same but the KDE thing which kinda suck

  • @lemler33 Oh yea my fault. Ubuntu is a linux distribution

  • @lemler33 that still counts as linux

  • @lemler33 Ubuntu is a Debian distribution, with Linux kernel, Debian package managment, Ubuntu+Debian packages, etc.

Anyway, what u see in this video is a Gnome+Compiz Fusion demostration.

Sum: Ubuntu IS A Linux. Read before u post

  • @chixyman when you install it will give u the option to clean install or partition so if you dont want it to it wont

  • @chixyman If you format a hard drive, it will only remove the files on that drive and that drive only. It won't effect any other drives or partitions.

  • What did you use to record?

  • how do u get those special options where if u pres cetain buttons u could like make it rain on ur desktop what website can u ge it on!?!?!??!?!

  • The jerky framerate is probably lag caused by the screen recorder. My 9.10 64-bit desktop with Nvidia 8800 GTS (overclocked) is sweet.

  • Miro is nice

  • Looks cool, but the frame rate seems horrendous - is that the video encode, the 3ddesktop software or the hardware it's running on?

  • @HappySpaceInvdr I have Karmic Koala (9.10) and the lagging is not caused by the desktop environment. It is really fast. My guess is the screen recorder he/she used :/

  • I must say Bravo!

lol I have been running 8.04 LTS since it first became stable, just tonight have I resolved some permissions issues so I can upgrade my distro. 'Mazin Vid!

  • the first few days with linux made me cry myself to sleep at nights. But now i realize how great of an operating system it is.(=

  • okay, so does anyone else have this problem, if not how do i fix it?!

when i pause a video on youtube, the audio will carry on for about 1 second after. i installed the proper adobe flash from the website so its not an open source knock off of anything. help!

  • how do u do your bottom panel like that

  • @noveron714 It looks like Avant Windows Navigator...If you search for it in the software center it should come up...

  • @noveron714 its a type of object dock. look er up

  • much better then windows. you can do many things you can't in windows. moreover it's 4free!

  • @sehrgayatx windows is not perfect i admit but most programs these days are built for windows thats why i have a HACKINTOSH :)

  • @OwNaGeOfDaLiAm : i think, you never tried ubuntu, there aren't any flash problems at all! it runs much better then windows!

  • @sehrgayatx im running ubuntu right now.. and yes there ARE flash problems. look into it.

  • @OwNaGeOfDaLiAm chek if you are running ubuntu 64 bit, flash is run in emulation mode (32 bit mode) this creates problems with the firefox 64 bit browser.

    Ubuntu 32 bit/firefox 32bit/flash bit 32 should run fine.

  • @lafaspot its called 64 bit flash

  • @lafaspot Nah it works but it lags, must just be my hardware. I've ensured its all 32 bit.

  • Ok.. Beside this bling-bling desktop, can you show some performance points on Photoshop or DirectX apps like Dx10 or Dx11 games? Or maybe Adobe Flash or 3DMax or Autocad? I see all this movies about how cool Ubuntu or Linux Mint are.. But all the contents are about the Gnome Desktop or KDE Desktop effects.. What's the point?

  • @dnzota

I guess the issue is that not many companies develop applications for Linux, probably because not many people install linux on their machines. As far as I know most servers use Linux because of its high security compared to windows.

I guess every OS has its advantages, Windows is user friendly, and has lots of application so it suits every day use & Linux is best suitable for managing servers and a little bit hard to use.

    regards

  • @mkaatr thank you for not cursing me when skeaking of windows before linux :) most linux users do this. Yes, it would be great to see some common apps from windows running without emulation. As for security issues for my home pc i don't see any problem with windows. I just use a free antivirus. Oh by the way I find Linux very user friendly at this time. I guess if I had a laptop I would use Linux but not in this cool desktop effects way, I would try to search for real functionality.

  • @mkaatr I must say I have a real problem with this desktop effects film desease.. Users don't show the really good points of Linux. All you see are desktop effects and Linux install films most of the cases. "Wow, how cool is that! I have wobbly windows"

  • @dnzota

Well, this is my problem too, I was trying to find out what are the new features in Linux, and got into this video. I would guess the videos must focus on the software that comes with Linux and how they could replace Microsoft counterpart.

Probably a number of deals needed to be signed with major companies to develop commercial software for Linux. I don't see this happening because companies won't spend resources and money on a small market (compared to windows and mac i mean).

  • All thoose programs are propitiatory linux uses open source equivalents

  • ubuntu 9.10 really is a great operating system and is definitely very easy to use, i found anyway. very much more usable then windows. but it simply doesn't have the programmes that i use everyday such as itunes, windows live messenger ect. it also doesn't have a flash plugin for google chrome which is a big disappointment because i use flash all the time on the internet.

  • kubuntu does? is something wrong with ur install?

  • @OwNaGeOfDaLiAm chrome does have flash support on ubuntu 9.10, i'm using it, for windows live client you can use pid-gin.

Tthere is no itunes, but several apps support syncing with ipod like amarok or rhythmbox.

As a last resort you can run itunes inside VirtualBox, without having to boot windows.

  • @lafaspot i know it does, but imo flash is really buggy and laggy in ubuntu, thats why i dont use it. whenever i pause a video the audio usually carries on about a second afterwards, and happens in ALL the browsers i've tried in ubuntu.

  • @lafaspot could u use wine?????

  • @lafaspot Yes, chrome has a flash support on ubuntu 9.10 and 10.10.

For windows live messenger you can use also aMSN the, that is the version for Linux. The Itunes has many others similars which is possible to use and have his function.

Linux is too much better than Windows !

  • @vloglucasbatista it would be if it supported more video games

  • @lafaspot or you can try running it with wine :P

  • @xyz98741

if it where not for linux you would still be paying 50% the price of your gear in software

linux is is not going anywhere

  • @OwNaGeOfDaLiAm amarok can handle Ipods and is much more usable than Itunes, Itunes is one of the worst pieces of software I've used in terms of design and usability. There's many alternatives to Windows Live Messenger; Emesene, Pidgin and others, fairly sure when I installed Chrome it already had a decent flash plugin and I'm using an amd64 which is not supported as widely as intel

  • @OwNaGeOfDaLiAm

    chrome supports flash

rhythmbox is even a better alternative than itunes, you just need to be open and explore it.

msn? gah pidgin/empathy supported it millions of years ago.

  • how do i get that tool bar in the bottom center like mac ??? Idk what its called... plz help

  • @sepulturak it's called AWN which stands for Avant Window Navigator is the name of that toolbar that's like Mac's.

  • what is the actual use of a 3D desktop? almost all u need is online now... and u dont even need the desktop icons ^^

  • First off I would like to say excellent video! Second let me tell you all what I'm running so maybe someone can answer my question.

64 bit dual boot: 9.10 karmic koala, backtrack 4, and windows 7 home premium.

intel pentium dual core e-machine E725 4520 laptop. (yeah it's a e-machine and it works perfect!!)

Now w/ that said. are there any walkthroughs/how to's to tell me how to do what you were doing there?

  • @neoistheone100

hey did u have problems with the live cd? im trying to run the live cd, but dont run i have to change bios an actually use a dvd instead of cd, so i change to run dvd first on bios, did u have the same problems?, or just my computer, i dont isntall anything yet, i want to make that computer run only ubuntu, because i have another one with windows 7.

  • @neoistheone100 check the my how-to video

  • @neoistheone100 If you still haven't found a tutorial go to system>preferences>compizconfig and then scroll down and enable "desktop cube" then customize it, eventually I am sure you will get it going.

  • @neoistheone100 can u tell me the name of the film????

  • Can this be done on Kubuntu KK? Or does that involve a lot of coding? I have a laptop with an 80GB hard drive and I just installed Kubuntu 9.10, I know that Kubuntu has KWIN and Ubuntu KK has something else. Can something similar be done with Kwin or does it only look this way with Ubuntu?

  • How you get this toolbar on the bottom of the desktop with Firefox, Google Earth,... ?

  • Hmm, Ubuntu certainly isn't crap.

Do you need help in setting it up? I would be happy to help you.

  • @vadarfone Thanks for the offer but Ive just fixed my MBR and formated the Ubuntu partition into oblivion. It is a nice OS, but not very user freindly. If I ever get a machine which has Ubuntu compatible hardware I´ll try it again. Why spend ages trying to sort it out, when I can easily use windows without any problems.

  • @bicnarok Well, I agree about the current ease of use of Windows; I am typing this on an XP install!

I think with Ubuntu, and Linux in general, it is very usable for the average user, but it quickly becomes difficult. I love it because I am a computer nerd, but I realise that it currently is not for everyone, although I think it will rapidly become more stable for beginners.

  • Ive been using computers since the sinclair spectrum so i´m hardly a beginner. The problem is if there are no drivers for Ubuntu its functionality is reduced.

  • What is the name of the program where it appears Rachael Cantu?

  • i am in desperate need of help ...i downloaded ubuntu and i would like to get my desktop like the ones shown in the videos.....this is my first time using ubuntu and any help would be ggreatly appreciated

  • @CRUCIALTAGZ check my other video that with name "how to"

  • Install Compiz Fusion, get all the extra stuff needed to make it work, then start playing with the settings in the Compiz options.

The first time you manage to get the 3D Desktop working, you will cry with joy!

  • @CRUCIALTAGZ First install it then go online google to do research on compiz and AWN for nice looking desktop

  • how to make that shortcut panel down there?

  • Wow... Linux is really becoming not only very functional, but also beautiful :D

  • i have a ati radeon 4850 but i get problems on compiz using ubuntu 9.10 while works all perfect on ubuntu 8.04....

  • i googled and there seems to be an issue with ur card (specifically its drivers) and this version of ubuntu and compiz. there might be a fix if you do more searching, you'll def have to deal with the terminal tho if there is a fix, for sure...but it looks like a compatibility issue; most ppl were having resolution problems

  • 9.x onwards is currently not compatible with a lot of the ATi Radeon cards.

8.10 is the latest version that works perfectly for me with my ATi card. I reverted to this after messing around for a while.

My advice; just use 8.10 until they sort it out.

  • I don't like the user interface.

  • the cube is laggy or it's becouse you are recording (sorry about my inglish)

  • It's the recording tool

  • @kyttiemetal It is the recording. The cube is not laggy. It is very smooth, even on my old Thinkpad.

  • thaks for the vid i want to know befer install XD

  • Song:

    Groove Cutter - My shooter

    Good video

  • @xfJ8 Thank you.

  • Cool thanks

  • How is name of the song :D

  • @star4movie Groove Cutter - My Shooter

  • What screen recoorder did you use

  • gtk-recordmydesktop

  • i try to install that thing..but it makes my pc run so slow

  • Seriously? Linux is SO light compared to Windows... What were you running before?

  • What did you use to capture this video?

  • how can i do this, i want the same desktop with the symboles

  • how does this run on a 1.79GHz single processor, 384MB of RAM, and an ati mobility radeon X200?

  • you will see a single picture ;)

  • well...not really; tried it last night, everything was displayed perfectly and smoothly. the OS itself is kindof a letdown though...waaaaay too complicated.

  • Horribly it would run horribly stick with windows 2000 or whatever dude

  • yes, i've come to realize that. i'll just roll back to winXP then.

  • for me run god and i hawe 2gb ram

  • @rooo1o No way! Wont work with that.

  • I tested it. ran pretty well, except for the random crashes at startup.

  • how did you so that on

    1:01

    2:12

    2:53

  • 1:01 = hold ctrl + alt, hold left click and drag.

2.12 = hold ctrl + alt, press down on the keyboard

    2:53 = windows key + tab

  • What was that program at the very start, with trailers

  • do you mean miro? ;)

  • Nothing changed compared to 8.04 optically.

I hope the compatibility was improved a little, cause for laptops the 8.04 was crap.

I'm very happy with Windows seven which is , i think, more compatible and more beautiful than Ubuntu... where is the practical interest of shaking windows?? Aero Snap is cool and handy!
