@craigster97... A Mongkol is something which demands great respect by the people who handle it and wear it. When a Fighter is wearing his Mongkol, nothing is suppose to touch his head, this why you see Thai fighters always entering the ring by climbing over the top rope of the ring and never in between. Nowadays, the trainer removes the Mongkol from the fighter's head after the Wai Khru, but in the old day it was supposed to be worn throughout the fight.

@craigster97... He has on his head is called a Mongkol and it does not signify rank as Muay Thai has no such ranking system. A Mongkol is a headband which was traditionally worn (only in white) by the soldiers of Siam to protect them in battle. Due to the fact that Muay Thai has been developed out of the old unarmed battlefield techniques of the Siamese army, this tradition was also incorporated in the culture of Muay Thai.
