I travelled this road in August 2010 just after the floods. The road was wet & slippery all the way & in some places flooded or washed out. There were also thousands of fuel tankers going in the opposite direction to Leh. One over-turned on a corner & spilled thousands of litres of diesel.

@arkuba ... believe me mate the night before I left Bangalore (where I live) to Delhi to catch a bus to Manali...I couldn't sleep the whole night I just kept watching this video...Its less than a week since I arrived back...but yes I will go back...these place are not worthy to be visited once...multiple times is their worth !!!
great video! great sound track! Been to Darcha in 1990 but had to turn back due to bad weather, not been able to go there since. Look forward to complete the trip upto Leh some day.
great video - what month did you do the trip in? am planning to go this july 2008. Also, someone commented 21 hrs by jeep, someone 56 - how long does the bus take? thx again
Hello, I was there in July 2005. The local bus journey from Manali to Keylong took about 12 hours, then I had to find a place to sleep and the next day again - from Keylong to Leh about 16 hours. So normally, you start your journey at dawn in Manali, sleep in Keylong and finish in Leh 2 in the evening. 2 whole days.
@aveeshkumar... I went to Manali to Leh by a Tempo Traveler for there were no Buses...we left on Friday morning at 7 AM...reached Pang at 10 PM and stayed there for the night..left at 6:30 AM on Saturday and reached Leh around 2:30-3 PM that afternoon...this was two weeks back !
smano no rail ji impossible .... you been smoking? they (army) will make a tunnel tru pir panjal (solang-kokhsar 9 km) so no more rhotang other than for Indians wanna see/touch snow first time!
Rohtang is not the only place Indians see snow. Indians can see snow in any one of the thousands of hill stations dotting the 4000 km long Himalayan border.
great video. I did this trip on the bus in 1991. Unforgettable. But I got highaltitudesick up there and couldn,t enjoy.... but coming down into the Indus-valley I felt great and sooo happy.

Thanx. 2 years ago I did the same trip with my wife. In our own car: Maruti suzuki 800. The smallest car I ever rode. Marvelous trip...
