@ hxtrjeff - Twice in one day ! Wow ! I only managed it once, it was hard going but well worth it for the spectacular views. A lovely city and beautiful Cathedral.
An amazing story about this cathedral: it took over 600 years to build (from the mid-1200s to the mid-1800s)! Apparently the "blue prints" for this Gothic-style cathedral were lost around the mid-1500s, then unexpectedly found again around 1850. The integrity of the original design was maintained. It's the longest building project in history. Aerial photos show a slight difference in color from the "newer" construction to that of the original east end. Reference listed in next comment.
I'm sure. Construction of the Ulm Cathedral didn't start until 1377 (14th century) and was completed in 1890 (513 years). Construction of the Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 (13th century) and wasn't completed until 1880 (632 years).
American here... When I lived in Germany we visited the city as a young teenager... I claimed to the top in the spiraling staircase twice in one day. Amazing place just love the architecture. The bells are so huge and sound so amazing. Wonderful city... Great video.. thank you.
800 years ago we could create these magnificent structures, now we can't even build decent houses!

the city of cologne started in 1248 to build this cathedral and "ended" about 1870 or so.
at this time the cologne catherdal was the highest building of the world!!
today its still the highest cathedral of the world!

Ulm Cathedral, actually, is the highest "cathedral" in the world, even though Ulm Cathedral isn't architecturally a cathedral.
