what's great about this interview is that it precedes his entire film career. He had ten years or more as a successful gag-writer which itself is a tough career to succeed at. Then he went on stage telling jokes and did well at that. he's really a fascinating guy.

i remember seeing this on cbs when i was just a young child. i knew from then on that i would gladly follow this bright and funny comedian's entire career until the end. i am glad to say i have met him twice, and have even gotten a photo with him. you really can't understand how wonderful he is until you are standing right next to him. he is a genius. a genius with a kind heart. he's been a public figure for 40 years now. there is a reason why.
