  • I think that they should have added this scene in, MINUS Kocoum talking. He's too happy for after a war and he contradicts Pocahontas's "But he's so...serious" comment. I think that they should have all continued to sing as a village while he held out a hand to her. They could MAYBE have dared a smile but a nod would have been better suited for him. Then Pocahontas could have turned to the river and after this they'd put the "Steady as the Beating Drum" and "Just Around the Riverbend" scenes

  • He....he.....He sounds like......................oh man he sounds like a freakin' surfer dude *faceplam* DON'T TALK KOCOUM. Just...just stand there...and be serious...and if you do talk...Please, dear f*cking lord, don't talk like THAT.

  • woow, kocoum talked, and that's not even enought, he SINGS like its noting :p

love the final beginning more i think...

  • ''HOLY CRAP!!'' "HE TALKED!!" ''HE ACTUALLY TALKED!'' ''The apocalypse has finally begun!!'' "Pigs are learning how to fly!!'' "Satan is skating is way to work!!" "And i'm pretty sure that i just became a money's uncle!!"

  • @MrDanielFreckleFoot1 Nostalgia Critic!

  • What are they saying :25 - :30

  • To those comparing Kocoum to Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, I have a better comparison...how about Shang from Mulan? Both are skilled warriors, headstrong, and put their duty to their country above everything else! Only Shang doesn't actively seek Mulan as his bride at first because he thinks she's a guy.I guess Pocahantas and Mulan are pretty similar too...both are free-spirited women who don't want to get married at first or play their expected roles as women in their societies!

  • I see why it was cut but on it's own I like it, I never did like the fact that cocoum didn't talk but still I don't think he's the singing type.

  • They could've kept this and made it work if they used the Kocoum we know. Not as lively and singing and I could see this working in the film. It would've shown he cared about Pocahontas more than becoming the next leader of the tribe.

  • Kocoum....the akward, singing warrior!

  • Kocoum has a personality? Really?

I like this cut better. John's cool, but the history's way off on the movie.

I love the movie, but I never thought Kocoum was emotionless... He was back from a war! What did you expect him to do? Waltz around and sing happy songs? xD

  • I liked it. Not Kokoum's Gaston type attitude, but the song.

  • well it was great choice to cut it

  • gaston, for the record, was a total asshole

  • kocoum doesnt seem like gaston to me in this one he just seems a little more lively

  • I'm glad they stuck with the changes they made lol

  • Oh, I love this scene ^^ <3 It would be sooo interesting to see the other, less serious version of Pocahontas, with this scene, this style of drawing characters, the talking, overprotective Cocoum and the song "Middle of the river" in it. ^^

  • Run, Pocahontas, run !

  • If this seems familiar to you is cause maybe this idea take a clear form until Mulan: Bring honor to us all is Dancing to the wedding drum :D

  • NOW I get why he never talked before...

  • kocoum was so annoying in this omfg

  • i can't believe what he did to poor Meeko! how rude!

  • press pause at 1:40 ;Kocoum's pervert looking face :S

  • *Now the bit in 'just around the reverbend' that's "a handsome, sturdy husband who builds handsome, sturdy walls" makes even more sense. :)

  • Now vie

  • I wish they kept some of this....it would of been a cool scene. But I'll never think of Kocoum the same again :)

  • after seeing this i don't even want imagine kokoum again as a quiet and strong warrior now i'm going be to seeing him as a awkward warrior that somehow has a different side of him that makes me laugh and he sings too XD

  • Gosh, Kokoum is so awkward. XD

  • I like this. I'm glad it was cut out because it makes Pocahontas seem very trapped when she always seemed a free spirit, but I wish some form of this could have made into the film as it prompts "Just Around the Riverbend" really well and makes the ending of the song have even more weight.

  • LOVE this. I don't know why people are comparing Kocoum to Gaston. Kocoum seems proud, not full of himself like Gaston. I wish we could of seen this side of kocoum in the movie...but then his death would have actually had some meaning...urghh...John Smith. xP

  • This should fit into the film after John Smith arrives and after this ends she runs to know about the strange clouds and maybe Grandmother Willow maybe a following spirit for the village

  • Comment removed

  • why was this scene deleted from the actual movie?

  • Hahahah when he started singing xD He kinda reminded me of Hercules when showing off the house, like he did with Meg in the movie

  • Kocoum being all cheerful and chatty? The Apocalypse must be coming sooner than we thought. o.e

  • I like this one, and I would love to see it fully animated, but all the same giving Kocoum a real personality when he basically only exists to die would be a bit cruel-making him seem like a real character rather than a mere obstacle would probably garner some rather unhappy feelings from the ones who would have come to like him had he been given a more lively personality.

  • No, Pocahontas! You were supposed to get your father, not walk into the beginning of Beauty and the Beast!!

Son of gun, he dropped Miko! Get 'im, Flit!

  • @EnchantressLaina That's exactly what i was thinking, lol.

  • Why does Kocoum remind me of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast here? -_-

  • "im not your wife yet."

    "-_- will be soon."

Makes me laugh for some reason.

  • "good sturdy walls" LOL

  • Cute, but it doesn't fit the feel of the movie. Not to mention, this makes Kocoum's death much more horrible. The silent one is much better, we can be detached from him. You'd see a lot more KokoumxPocahantos fanart if they kept this in. XD lol!

  • i actrully wish that there was just ONE scene with pocahontas and kokoum in the movie =( besides this..

  • kind of reminds me of gaston, this other kocoum...

  • @thesilentblur Lol, i thought it was just me! xD

  • The Pocahontas here sounds more like her friend

  • Vaguely reminds me of Brother Bear II and Mulan mixed together...

  • This is actually not a bad song, but maybe because I like the melody. And Kocoum is an idiot. I prefer the "serious" Kocoum.

  • if they would have added this happy dappy Kocoum to the movie i would have been sad he died XD i like the one in the movie better.

  • suddenly I appreciate the mute and constipated Kocoum a lot more

  • I like how she narrative what she doing... That natural

  • ....I'd do that Kocoum. XD

  • well if they did make kocoum like this all cheerful and upbeat then it would have made it impossible for pocahontas to not like him. since the reason why she does not want to marry him is because he is too "serious" and he happends to be opposite of how she wants to live her life, even though this deleted song is very good, yet it makes it impossible for kocoum's serious side show.

  • This would have made me like Kocoum and would have made it harder to see him die D:

  • When did Kokoum become so happy and joyfull?? =/ i'm glad they changed this because a happy and joyfull Kokoum scares me =/ Great video though :) x

  • Pocahontas and Kokoum are both too chatty in this version. I like them more when they brood. lol Its true though. I like they're mature selves. I don't think Pocahontas would be as loved if she was this version, much too like Ariel or Snow White. She's better as her mature self.

  • I bet this took place during the movie after John smith and the English sailors arrive and after Pocahontas seeing Gradmother Willow and its possible for her to follow Pocahontas and learning about her marrage with Kocoum.

  • Kocoum? talking? smiling? WHAT THE FU *blows up*

  • Kocoum... is talking? OH MY GAWSH! It's the Apocalypse! STOP IT!

Wow, that was frightening... I mean, it's cute and all but I, personally, find him better silent. Not because I'm used to it, but also, it's much more fitting of a character that has JUST been through a war and works hard to be a warrior. Still, 'good sturdy walls'... oh, he has no idea how bad that sounds. Way to go Koco! Oy... GLEN COCO! Darn 'Mean Girls'... and hot cocoa. Hey, that goes too! Sorry, he makes me giddy. XD

  • Kocoum sound a lot younger in this version. Maybe like 18 or so.

  • good sturdy walls ;D

  • "I especially love his smile."

  • Please, can anyone write lyrics of this song? Need it so much.

  • I don't like the butthurt version of Kocoum anymore. xD This one is just too adorable, but scary. Like.. Really scary, man.

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhh kokum needs to shut up im scared

  • I like this song, but it doesnt seem to fit with the movie, because what i liked about pocahontas was that she wasnt like a "princess" uk what i mean? Yeah she IS a princess but shes not like most of the disney princesses, but this song makes her princessy

  • O_O.........Kocoum was WAY better when he was silent and not singing...XD

  • What they ended up deciding on was completely superior. I'm especially glad they didn't keep Kokoum like that o_o

It is always nice to see roughs and storyboard decisions though, cool post.

  • this would have been really cute all animated n stuff

  • i love the drums...i really like how it repeats the beats from "steady as the beating drum"

but yeah it doesnt match with the rest of the film in terms of tone and mood...kokoum is like high or something haha

  • he kind of reminds me of shang in this clip, lol.

  • LMFAO Koc!

  • Kokoum freaks me out here, i liked him better in the movie

  • This was pretty cool. But the "THERE SHE IS!" part scared me! XD

  • Great they always make a big deal about the princesses wedding

  • Interesting this song has a more prominent role in the film actually advancing the plot and inserting dialogue. I think it would have worked if they had gone for a less serious more humorous tone ..which appears to be the direction of the film early on.

  • I can't believe it, it's the exact same music, they just exchanged the lyrics! It's just so awkweird. I mean, I know that's probaly how it rolls during the production, but still.

You know, this whole segment wasn't such a bad idea, it could had added some really needed character development to the movie, but whatever.

  • I don't know why but I laughed a lot when it was like, kokoum i'm not your wife yet, you will be soon. I guess it was because it was so quick an answer or something.

  • The song is cute, but I liked the silent Kocoum better.

  • @origamipein18 me too. Damn he was better as the quiet guy

  • @AnalieSkywind Yeah and if I saw this as a kid, I'd have nightmares.

  • @origamipein18 LMAO

  • I like "Steady as the Beating Drum" better. WAY better.

  • This song is so cute! But Kokoum is a NERD here haha

  • They did do a similar wedding song for the Brother Bear 2 movie

  • were these the original designs for pocahontas or were they just quickies?

  • U know that they were going to have a turkey as well as the racoon and the hummingbird. that would have been WEIRD.

  • This song is just like a mix of Honor to Us All from Mulan and Belle from Beauty and the Beast!

  • i think i like this song better than the other one

  • They were originally gonna have this scene 'cause in real life Pocahontas did marry a felow tribesman called Kocoum, but that was long after John Smith had returned to England.

  • I'm so glad they changed it! Kocoum was so weird.. He actually did remind me of Gaston, just as you mentioned! I love the final version in the movie!

  • lol I agree. That Kokoum was a little creepy. I'M GLAD THEY MADE HIM CONSTIPATED. XP

I had no idea this was supposed to be what the original song. When would this song have taken place, cause Steady as the Beating Drum takes place BEFORE you figure out Kokoum had even asked Pocahontas's father for her hand in marriage.

  • All of a sudden, he's chatty! In the actual movie, I don't know if he said anything or just went around with a face like this :| all the time.

  • well as she said later haha "he's so serious...."

  • @skinnerburgers He had a few small lines. One suggesting an attack, one counting people, one shouting "Mamantak!", and a couple asking where Pocahontas was. Oh, and he did that war scream. He got more lines than Pocahontas' bodyguard did in the sequel. I think Kokoum gets as much screen time as Clopin does in HoND, but far fewer lines, since he doesn't sing.

  • @skinnerburgers yeah he did talk mayb 2 sentences in the whole movie

  • that kokoum rocks!

  • what's about Koccum that Pocahontas doesn't like in this scene? (Other than not letting Meeko and Flit in and building a poor hut).

  • I think I prefer this version although I am surprised at how different Kokoum is in this cut from the final version! He's kind of cute in this cut with his enthusiasm.

  • The picture at 1:00 looks just like one of the John White drawings of the Natives at the Roanoke colony (a.k.a. the Lost Colony).

  • I don't think he seems like Gaston in this clip. I think it just shows that he really cared for Pocahontas and how happy she made him. I like this version of Kocoum rather than the one in the movie, but oh well.

  • Ahaha that would've been a nice scene..but heck, Kocuum's attitude didn't suit him XD he seemed a bit too cheerful *and vain much?* than what he really was in the movie

  • ahhaahahah cute lol..i luv pocahontas

  • I loved this! This totally reminded me of Mulan! I actually really wish this was in the movie, it would make Kocoum a much better character. I know you said he was like Gaston but I thought he was cute and was very sweet and sincere, just trying to protect and love his wife-to-be. Although, as people have said above, a bit too Gaston and I can see why she wouldn't want to be his wife. If they kept it in, maybe we would have realized that there was more of a reason than him being so "serious" :D

  • HE HURT MEEKO!!!!!!! and totally acts...cheesy....he seems very.....forceful....

  • This Kocoum is certainly happier, and does seem to care for Pocahontas, but he's also possessive, and rather overbearing, so can see why she'd protest.

  • I always think they should of kept this part but true I would be worse for little kids then to see him die.The have to but as the so called bad guy-even though he never was and really always cared for her

  • I loved the deleted scene "Dancing to the Wedding Drum" so much! Kocoum actually smiled, and sounded happy! He was more like-able, and loved his fiancee so much.

  • I think Disney made the right choice in changing Kokoum's character. He's very likeable in this draft, and, while it would have been a greater tragedy when he died, a lot of people would not feel as bad for Pocahontas as they do for her in the finished piece. In this draft, Kokoum has a good personality, as well as being able to provide for Pocahontas, and seems to honestly love her. If he remained this was, a lot of people wouldn't see why Pocahontas was complaining about having to marry him.

  • I disagree. I still think Kocoum was likeable, he still wanted to protect and care for Pocahontas, and I was still devestated when he died and overjoyed when they made a doll of him. -continued-

  • OH MY!!! I DIN'T KNOW THERE WAS A KOCOUM DOLL!!! O_O ooooh i want it!!! he's the most handsome Ken ever

  • I so agree with you

  • However, in this draft you can still see why she would protest--he looks and seems more arrogant then he did in the movie. The impropriety of showing her their house--alone when they are unmarried wasn't something that movie!kocoum would do, and movie kocoum probably wouldn't let them lift him on his shoulders with that arrogant smirk/smile because he was marrying Pocahontas. I can see this concept Kocoum smacking the shit out of her before jumping on John before he died

  • Hmmmm, you definately have a point. Keep in mind, it's been a while since I've seen the movie.

  • lol true even though I did like his atitude a bit more in the movies since here they made him a bit too much like Gaston from 01:23 on they could of changed at least that part lol but still I think movie Kocoum still cared for her the same just wasn't as cocky which is good lol

  • "quiet, constipated and stoic"

    Hahaha. Well said. :)

  • I loved the part with Kokuum. :) He seemed sweeter, and it would of been more of a tragedy when he died. Plus, this song rules all! :)

  • sounds to me very.... Mulan xD. Although it would be interesting to see a happy Kocoum, the final one seems to me a little more... culturally accurate, because they were always arranged couples and he was a warrior..? BUT OH MY, KOCOUM IS HOT.

  • very mulan------the song, remembers me to "honor to us all"

  • i agree this would have made the movie more understandable to chinldren.

  • omg! i bet if disney were to keep that part and give Kokoum that personality, this movie would've reached the same popularity as Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Knowing kids, they're the types that like light-hearted moments hehehe.

You should post more Pocahontas stuff! Maybe the ones that show a contrast in character-personality between what would've been and the ones you see in the movie hehehhe!

  • this part should have been in da movie. expect for the Kokoum part. ^.-
