i don´t know much about working with glass, but i think you are a little risky doing that wihtout the apropiated cloths, that most be dangerous, isn´t it?
I am not associated with Da Factory, nor helped with this piece in any form, but...to answer your quest. They rolled the glass sheet up and sealed the edges so it was ultimately a cylinder with both ends open. The end on the blow pipe is technically open, and the other end he was closing @ 5:30. That way, with that end closed he would be able to blow the now closed shape more. You close the shape and to make sure it is sealed you used the shears to cut off the excess.
Yeah... i can see what he was doing i was really asking why he was doing it.... seems like they burnt most of the color out of it? i dont speak for them either tho and im not a pro...
(I am not a professional either but have about a years worth of experience) They did not burn the color out, it is just from heating the piece up and turning back to its liquid form, but no, look at the end piece; the color is still there.
I'm not here to argue either, its just the tendency of adding color; a lot of times the final color is different than what it looks at the beginning. We find powders and frits laying around the shop that people have left and its usually a fun time quessing what it will end up being (example, we had a lime green powder that after we annealed it, it turned out to be neon yellow).
