@youcrayzee My thoughts exactly. You cant understand them half the time, and they never shut up long enough to listen to any responses. That and they take 10 minutes to say goodbye. I finally cut the shit and moved to ham for long distance talking. I still use cb for local stuff though. lots of local friends.
@lumpysnake loc they do. They repeat when its skip 1000 miles or so you lose some words here and there. Not to mention the tons of radios trying to shoot dx. The Skip window moves around good one second, bad another.
@lumpysnake If you don't like the CB lingo and the way people talk just pick up your cell phone and call anyone you want. Crystal clear connection and you can get through every time. Ham is a bunch of nerds talking about their new radios and the weather. LOL!
@youcrayzee If they spoke normal it would take all the fun out of using the cb radio. Why even use the cb at all when we can just use our cell phones?
@youcrayzee if you think they are bad, speak to a radio amateur! I stopped using amateur bands because there was never anyone who could speak plain English about something other than radio!
Currently I get on 2 meters, but I do have hf general as well and can get on all of my legal bands. We should try ten meters and see what happens for sure. What's your call?
Quite the opposite actually, Its only a little 50 watter and it only puts out about 40. Its just how the skip rolls, you never know who you will hear or who will hear you.
"Skip" also known as "Sporadic E" refers to the phenomena that occurs when the ionosphere becomes electrically charged.
The signals from radio signals will then "Bounce" off of the atmosphere as opposed to normally passing right through it.
These signals then come back down Hundreds sometimes thousands of miles away. Sometimes I hear California, other times I hear Honolulu. I even heard Australia one day.
i go by Reaper in Greenville, Ohio channels 7, 17, 19, 23, 29, 33, 38, and 40 (40 test station). used to have a 250 watt linear with low, med, high power settings and receive booster. it blew up though :(
Hey right on reaper. In Tucson, AZ we only really use channels 2, 14, and 33. 2 is really mostly technical talk. Whilst 14 is the as we call it the "Disney Channel" its really more like the "Sewer" of Cb radio. Its our primary channel.
All the most childish and random ass conversations occur here. Which is why its the only channel I hang out on. :P
We also have a fellow on there that likes to throw dead carriers on ppl. We call him "Chester."
ay, there was a guy who was slamming the pounds clear across the world hammering in at 3000 watts. the FCC found him and charged him a doller per watt, took his gear, and is not allowed to own or talk on another cb radio. 6, 12, and 22 are where the low bellies talk on. 29 is my auglaize county channel and the rest are my darke county channels. who knows, ya might see me out there in AZ one of these days. im lookin at getting out of this hell hole, nothin here in Ohio anymore sadly :(
I just use the battery that is already in there. The radio really doesn't draw too much current so I can get away with using it for a few hours with the engine off.

Oh cool what band do you frequent? I am currently in the process of studying to get my general ticket.
The only HF Frequencies I can use is a small portion of 10 right now. That and 11 of course. :P
I also use a 2 meter HT. The repeaters are kinda dead though.

Do you have an extra battery to run your radio when you are parked or do you just have to start the truck every now and then to charge it?

But when mother nature decides to let us play I can usually hear you out there working it.
