  • but can it run crysis?

  • its crap you know why?there are barely programmes for it and there won't come any cool games for it only mario in 3 pixels and stuff.. don't buy it..

  • @Roelvvv

    it has linux retard, way better than your gay PSP or DS

  • @Roelvvv are you 12?

  • i was wondering, whether there is a graphing calc app for the Pandora, can anyone tell me please.

    I am kind of undecided, whether getting one is worth it, and a calculator would definitely get me to buy it.

  • Those are like 349$USD OMG N WAY IM NOT BUYING IT!

  • @justync7 so...dont?

  • @justync7 that's extremely cheap for a device with such power

  • How much does it cost?

  • @neomysterio 199 GBP

  • it's coming 2010 near the 3 quarter

  • awww.... i cant wait soo much longer .... why does it take so loong??

  • This reminds me of the Phantom console. They keep coming up with release dates, then nothing shows up. By the time it releases (if it ever does) my phone will be better spec'ed than this.

    I'll believe it when I see it.

  • This looks amazing, but what I'm not getting is why it has a touch screen.

    Touch screens are great, but unless the screen can tilt back and slide down, I can't imagine it being of much use.

    It'd be like touching the top screen on a DS, that'd be hard to reach and not of much use.

    If they make a second one, assuming they haven't already, I say it should have two screens, but give the bottom one haptics.

    Also "Imagine...?" is not a proper question.

  • @MrGigith

    If it didn't have a touch screen, I wouldn't get it. The touch will make it easier(for me)to navigate the linux OS.

  • i think this will be better than a psp...

    i hope they r the same.

  • how can i get one of these? Is it all preoder? and could i still preorder now?

  • i want this so badly, but +$300 is little to much for me :(

  • this looks so awesome, i'm definitely getting this for my birthday if it's out by then.

  • I would love to get a pandora, but I don't have a lot of money and I already have a PSP with a bunch of emulators on it. Is there any good reason I should get this too?

  • so badass

  • should i wait to get this or get a wiz now?

  • you really shoulg get this one here...

  • @matrixman339: It depends on what you need. If you want emulation of a few older systems right now, get a Wiz. I've heard 'things' about their build quality, but they are out now.

    If you want to wait 'a while' and get a keyboard, better software, and the potential for amazing homebrew games, wait for the Pandora. But be prepared to wait.. indefinitely. The molds to make the cases are still being tweaked, they are probably a few months from even shipping the first batch.

  • First ones are shipping NOW, check wiki / pandora forum

  • Yes, I'm on the forums.

    So, whoever's reading this and isn't on the forums:

    * Cases are finalized, and starting mass production ASAP

    * Motherboards and other parts are done, produced, and waiting for assembly

    * First batch should be assembled and shipped in a few months

    * Orders for second batch will take place 'shortly' (i don't know when) after first batch is done shipping.

  • are there 2 analog sticks on it?

  • Yes

  • Amazing... but why Linux?

  • @LinkDaHylian5002 are you serious fuck you mac boy

  • Windows.........

  • No........

  • @SanCodos: Actually, I used Windows. This was long, long ago before I started using Linux shortly after making this comment.

  • Because it has an ARM CPU, like cell phones do. Windows has no official ARM version, and Apple doesn't release their iPhone OS.

    Linux has killer ARM support and I think Texas Instruments is backing it as the default OS for the OMAP CPU (which Pandora uses)

    Also, since it's an ARM processor, all the programs have to be compiled for ARM, so none of the 'standard' Windows or Mac OS programs would work anyway.

  • looks ugly as shit, but i guess i shouldnt judge a book by its cover

  • oooooo epic trailer-gasm XD

    nice 1 i hope they are all complete soon

  • can u install a netbook ubuntu

  • There is an ARM version of Ubuntu that should be available shortly after release, it may need a little tweaking.

  • looks like a fattass ds

  • No it's only slightly bigger than the original DS.

  • o, im sorry that im not a fatass who follows up on fucking, whatever that is. if you want to correct me on anything, tell me why lfd2 is gona be succsessful

  • Hm?

    I don't play lfd.

  • Because it's actually a UMPC, it's smaller than a netbook. You can find the video comparing its size to a DS yourself, I'm blocking you.

  • Because idiots who can't spell "successful" correctly do not understand that this handheld can play games from multiple sources. It doesn't just get games from an online store or a specific cartridge, but uses storage cards, so that you can put in twenty games with one card. It saves space, it is efficient, and it means that there are billions of (free or nonfree) games to choose from.

    That is how it is superior.

  • I wonder if it got upgraded to OpenGL ES 3.0 by now?

  • No, OpenGL 3.0 requires geometry shaders and some stuff the SGX doesn't have, and I didn't even know the ES 3.0 spec was out.. The Pandora is definitely ES 1.1 and ES 2.0.

  • hackers paradise :D

  • can you play shit like world of warcraft on it????? and is there gonna be an emulation program exclusivly for the pandora?????

  • No, WoW will not run on it. WoW is x86, and the Pandora is ARM.

    How do you mean "an emulation program"?

    There are working SNES, PS1, and older emulators that run on the Pandora, and Dreamcast and N64 are a possibility, but they aren't running at full speed yet.

  • Wow, how did I miss this video? Pretty awesome!

  • I'm to jealous of you having a pandora

  • will there be any built in memory? and when will the second batch of these be available? $300? not bad for a pocket PC

  • It has 512MB of internal flash memory, but you're supposed to use it for system stuff only since you can't replace internal memory once it dies in 10 or 20 years.

    2nd batch is "sometime in 2010", and it's actually around $330 or $340 for either batch.

  • Why is everybody getting all upset with it, b/c it's 320 dollars and they think it's just a snes emulator when really it runs some pc games and psp emulators and ps1 and plus its got firefox 3 and youtube is functionable on it. I'm gonna get it maybe when the price comes down on it.

  • The PSP emu is a work in progress and there's no guarantee on YouTube yet...

    I'm going to get a 2nd batch one and compile applications on it in mockery of how locked-down similar devices are.

  • more like Pocket emu ;)

  • ill just stick with a regular laptop

  • IS the screen still going to be touch??

  • Yep, it's a 800 by 480 LCD screen with resistive touch.

    It's also said to be pressure-sensitive with 4-bit accuracy (16 levels of pressure) but they haven't said much about that, and I don't know how many programs will support that feature.

  • that could be awesome to make Kaoss-pad type music effects for synth apps, or drawing / animation apps

  • will this be able to run n64 games?

  • Nobody's working on an N64 emu yet, so we're not sure.

  • Ari64 is working on a N64 emulator, and has been doing so for 5-6 months now.

  • seeing as how smooth it looks running Quake 3 at 40-50 fps, N64 games should be a cinch. It's more about how good the emulator is than any hardware bottlenecks

  • hey could you tell me where i can order one of these and how much it would cost U.S dollars thank you

  • btw, is the screen of the pandora bigger than the DS-Screen ?

  • Yes, It's the size of a PSP screen. Although it has a better resolution I believe.

  • so does the xbox but microsoft didn't get sued for that. And what about all those 3rd party companies that make there own controller look alikes for nintendo. They don't get sued

  • very nice but i'd rather get a netbook

  • netbooks have shitty graphics cards and processors. If you wanna play games your probably better off with this

  • could you send me a page with its specs?

  • Just about any netbook will have more CPU and GPU than this, but the Pandora is much, much smaller than any netbook.

    I'm getting it as a netbook surrogate because I don't like smartphones and netbooks are not pocket-sized enough.

  • ok true but if you were gonna run quake 3 in a netbook it would probably lag like shit. Unlike this which they said runs smothly

  • That seems kinda odd... Of course, this has the joysticks built-in, so you won't be carrying around a mouse just to play games with. :D

  • Yeah, it is a fucking powerful system but I'm pretty skeptical.

  • Can you held a netbook as a gamepad? If not, then it suck for portable gaming.

  • BRUTTISSIMA!!

  • This isn't a hoax it's real and it's about the size a nintendo DS

  • It's about the size of an original DS, and they're getting ready for mass production, it's quite far from being a hoax.

  • I wonder if the final Pandora will look this good because the prototypes didn't

  • wdf is dat ??????????????????????

  • Oh man, I wish that I pre-ordered one of these.... o wait i did... Mwahahahahaha

  • Ok I pre ordered. Where is my fucking machine? I've been waiting since Sept last year for this.

  • They are bad at estimating production times, but it's pretty close now. It should ship by the end of the summer.

  • Don't want to wait for This?

    Then go buy a "Gp2x Wiz" They are Cheaper, Available, and you can do anything the Pandora can do. Except it doesn't run 3D renered games all that well, but you get your Media and MAME or other classic arcade type games. It has a linux based software too.

  • Dammmmn very cooL!!

  • I really don't understand what you mean. I mean, so if I were to buy one of these consoles I would be taken hostage? That really doesn't make sense to me. Please Explain in further detail.

  • I meant it was all a scam. Forget it though, I was drunk. I'm sure this device will rock when it reaches mass production.

  • yuo must have been really drunk.. sure you dont mean heavy drugged ? :)

    Have a nice day.

  • I Lol'd.

  • me wanna :P

  • Man that looks soooo awesome!!!

    Better than any handheld i've ever seen!

    It looks worth the money too! :)

  • where can i buy this dammit

  • It's almost ready, hang on...

  • That's what they said a zillion years ago!!

  • Good things come to those who wait ;)

  • Also, it has far more RAM and better access to storage than the PSP or DS. It's like the greatest media player device possible.

  • seems like a nice product but it wont be something to rival the dsi or psp since it is basically a portable computer that runs emulated games from older consoles if you like older games thats fine but there wont be any software titles developed exclusively for this so its better to stick with ds or psp when it comes to portable gaming

  • its not just for emulators. it's meant to run homebrew programs and applications because it is open-sourced. its for hombrewers not gamers......too bad i'm a gamer

  • USE PUNCTUATION, ASSHOLE.

    GOD DAMN.

  • Yeah, because every time somebody's marketed a high-powered gaming-oriented system with absolutely no licensing costs and a self-hosting compiler, there's been NO native software.

    I would rather have a few crappy homebrew games than a huge amount of crappy commercial games that I have to pay for.

  • why bother with analog sticks if only 2 shoulder buttons?

  • I can't think of a reason to bother or not to bother. Maybe 2 is better than one worthless one?

  • So, They don't end up like a PSP? :p

  • inuboy1000 what makes you think its going to fail.the gpx32 has worst specs and its doing fine.The gizmondo did so bad and it sold 25000 with only eight commercial games released.

  • Urghh I have to wait till the next batch are available to order I hope it's soon.

  • Yeah, I'm waiting for the second batch. I don't really have access to the money I need to buy one, and my parents wouldn't like me spending this much until they know it actually exists.

  • it seems like it is gonna fail, but we'll see how it goes, i think it is more of a media device than anything

  • it aint commercial so its probable that wont be a ZOMG! but still if it sells well, maybe the future of open source ahrdware :D

  • Is this coming out only in Europe? If it is coming out in America (I pray so), then it will only be availible in big cities such as new york or la? Because I strongly doubt if it will be released in South Carolina :P

  • It's not exactly coming out anywhere, you have to order online.

  • You won't see it in the shops, but there is a host of online delears you can buy it from ^_^

  • Awesome! I was planning on ordering one anyway. :)

  • hell broke loose on the comments evildragon :P

  • Yo quiero una. ¿Alguien sabe cuando sale a la venta?

  • comprobar que el sitio es openpandora. org

  • LOL enjoy watching DVDs with pandora!!!

    Dumbass fanboy's next comment: "You can attach a USB drive to watch DVDs!"

    Me: "Put the DVD drive in your pocket too then!"

  • I will, because the Pandora has much better battery life than the PSP, and watching DVDs on it is a simple matter of plugging in a DVD reader, ripping it to an SD card or USB flash drive, then watching it later.

    Even if there is no DVD ripping software for the Pandora, I can just have my laptop rip the DVD, then transfer it.

    With no moving parts or easily scratchable PSP discs.

  • Yes, but I'm talking about REAL DVDs. The PSP needs help playing them too.

  • don't underrate something before you've ever used it because it DOES have a longass battery life its been proven by the team check the site. don't underrate things because you just sound like an asshole.

  • Wait are you talking to nitro about the Pandora's battery life?

  • no the mindless pointless arguing

  • "easily scratchable psp discs"? LOL

    the psp discs are protected with a plastic case... unless you put the disc in the ground or in your pocket xD

    btw, the Pandora looks like a Netbook

  • Yeah it's like a netbook but pocket-sized.

  • the case doesnt cover the whole disc. also if you get something small and hard in there it will surely rip the disc to shreds once it starts spinning.

  • Comment removed

  • its got host usb ports you can just get a usb cd/dvd drive and plug it in. [and maybe make some power considerations...]

  • Youtube's comment threading broke again, sorry for the triple post. >:3

  • it looks good from what i have read, but i dont see it as that much of an improvement from say a PSP. it can run linux and quake 3 and a few other things, but other than that all it has is the faster clockspeed.

    its not quick enough to emulate consoles above playstation, maybe it will do n64 but there is no chance of ps2/dreamcast

    so apart from commerical games which this machine wont have, it just has a few more things.. but is it worth the money? im not so sure

  • PCs can't even emulate PS2s. From what I've seen, they're too complicated and too poorly-documented for most games to even run in emulation.

    It will worth it for me anyway, since I want a programmable, open-source DS-sized THING. Also, it takes SD cards and has Wi-Fi, it's sort of like a tiny computer that can only run Linux.

  • PCs can emulate Ps2. IT's just you who, in your ignorance, don't know that a good emulator already exists.

  • I love how all the ignorant people rant how it won't be successful because it won't be commercial. It's not meant for being commercial, it's not limited, like a PSP or a DS, its open source, something that most big corporations don't like because it means they can get the stuff without paying. It's not going to reach 'shelves' and it's not going to be very user-friendly. But it will be great. I can't wait to get one, I will probably sell my PSP and a few other things to get it.

  • what a ugly design, who the heck would wanna carry that anyways? so fat! go buy a DSi, is much better and it can do anything that a "pandora" can and even better and much cheaper!

  • You little moron, is the DS as strong as the original Xbox? The pandora is much stronger than the DS, I really like my DS though, and it really is an ugly design. fugly!

  • "DSi, is much better and it can do anything that a "pandora" can and even better and much cheaper!"

    I have an original DS. I've tried to program it. Can't be run. It can't run linux, it has no built-in web browser, no OS to speak of, and there's no way to move data to it since its Wi-Fi is locked down and it only takes proprietary card and cartridge formats.

    The Pandora does far more for me than any console ever made. Even if I just use it as a tiny laptop, it would still be worth it.

  • no need for linux on a ds.

  • nitoro81

    pandora is not a ds

  • How else am I supposed to run Openoffice or Pidgin on it? Or firefox?

    Since seeing the Pandora, I've realized my DS can't really do anything.

  • Maybe because DS IS A GAMING CONSOLE, not a computer. Didn't you notice that?

  • A game console is just a locked-down computer with no multitasking OS.

  • My PC doesn't fit in my pocket. :/

  • This "you can put it in your pocket" just makes me laugh.

    The only interesting feature of this console AS A HANDHELD CONSOLE is its high resolution screen: 800x480 is awesome for a handheld. I'm surprised none of you dumbass fanboys have realized that.

  • The other only interesting feature is the keyboard, wi-fi, and open-source software that allows it to function as a small laptop.

  • I also used caps when I wrote "AS A HANDHELD CONSOLE".... learn to read.

  • such device already exists: it is called laptop

  • Hmm try fitting a laptop in your pocket, also this is great im prolly gonna get one

  • it has to reach the shelves first lol

    and... how about the price?

  • The price $300

  • Its cheaper than most netbooks, is more powerful, fits in your pocket, and has 10 hours of battery life. How is that fail in any way?

  • just wait and you'll see

  • . . . what are you talking about? these are already in production; the first batch of 3000 is sold out (excluding non-reorders after a bank problem) and getting ready to ship. the pandora does way more than any device of its size and price. . . $330 is one hell of a deal for these portable capabilities.

  • wow

  • wow..... i read from some stranger SJOGchannel that he said it's 599$ is it wats the truth !

  • ohhhhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhhhhh

    3d and umpc!

    what more could i ask for other than a good price?

    $330?

    ~~~~~~~~SOLD~~~~~~~~
  • nah psp and other handhelds r still in the clear pandoras dont sell mainstreem thru media so there not as populer as other handhelds
  • Is this suppose to go against the psp and DS or portable computers?
  • It's suppose to go against other handheld personal players like the GP2X & the Wiz.
  • can anyone tell me the purpose of having dual sd card slots ????
  • raiseyourfist1: for the linux programs and stuff, and the other one is for media (music, files,documents, images, roms,)
  • lol psp is fucked
  • but actually its 599... just wait until it comes out on november 30th
  • $330... learn to read...
  • I am sooooo waiting for this pandora to come out *o* I'll certainly buy it :D
    btw, awesome song :O does anyone knows where is this song from? =/
  • why don't they mainstream this?
  • did u use Art of Illusion to make this?
  • yeah, go ahead. Just a bunk of 3D artwork, fake stills etc.. This thing is just crazy. I can't believe nobody else has had sick thoughs about the veracity of this
  • an early release of the pandora is allready made :) and all this was community made :P
  • oohhkay so wat about the games i wanna see wat they look like
  • Where can I download tde .3ds file or model of the pandora device?
  • well probally not half life
  • well how about quake 3?
  • yes, i saw a video someone playing quake 3 on pandora
