I am Australian and I saw this ad on over summer... The cricket season... and worked in electrical (we had posters up at work for this TV) and this advertising push went for nearly 3-4 months over the whole cricket season. This was definatly not banned...
it should just be like how it is over in the UK: no commercials during the show, but after the credits, THEN have the commercials play for 5 minutes straight or until the next show comes on.
there was a person that produced a vcr that skipped out tv ads (momanterily paused) and ..well lets just say only a few were made and some recalled..the big ol tv producers didnt like the idea :P (free movies)

because it encourages people to skip ads, and since that's commercial televisions way of income they wouldn't exactly want to encourage that.
