  • Haha does Yoko roll her eyes at 3:55 when Dick goes "Does anybody have a question for Yoko?" Lol.

  • dick cavett started acting like a dick so john says "oh i don't care" i would have said the same thing if i was in johns position

  • 4:02 that's no lady.. that's carl sagan!

  • 4:01 What is this, a presidental debate!?

  • 4:10 whata fucking question?!

  • he doesn't care!

  • I think you're wrong about that, oh I don't care, classic John.

  • "oh, i think you're wrong about that." "oh, i don't care." haha, i love the sarcasm. <3

  • Hello palejewel676,

Thank you for answering my question so quickly. I might just buy that DVD. I've been a big John Lennon fan since The Beatles came to America. I already had his nose, grew my hair and bought the round glasses. Yesterday was 30 years since he was abruptly removed from our lives. He was a genius.

  • "Oh I don't care!" nd thats y they killed him ... ( there coming for mee tooo)..

  • beautiful people inside and out

  • The funny thing was......about overpopulation and Vietnam, John Lennon was right on the Mark!

  • What year was this recorded? If you have the exact taping date that would be great. Thanks!

  • @toymaster7425 It was 9/11/71. It was a decade before he was shot. If you click the link in the info section above, you'll be taken to the information for the DVD via amazon. Ignore the info in the header (which is wrong) and scroll further down to the product description.

  • He said early Presley...

  • Great interview but is it me or did he said elis presley instead of elvis.

  • @hardcoretakercenaman he said early presley

  • Yoko is RIGHT about overpopulation !!!!! It's unbelieveable how people still don't get it.

  • the question about overpopulation...wow, we could hae changed the world back THEN if we had the smarts... John would cry to see the world as it is today. I miss his peaceful approach...

  • Dick Cavett: Oh I think your wrong about that.

John Lennon: Oh I don't Care!

    Me:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • just look at yokos vicious face when john talks about songwriting ---- i mean who is she if not mr. lennon, publicly, professionally?

she is just one of those many many completely uninspired, self-declared wannabe avantgarde-artistLOL who hide their lack of ambition behind the phrase "classic crafted art is a philistine fetish" -- i mean who needs such schoolgirl wisdom?

  • John was one of the only people who had the guts to say what was right and what he believed- he really didn't care what the world thought

  • ZAPPA!! Wow, didn't know Lennon was a fan.

  • 4:59 i started laughing so hard

    gotta love Lennon :)

  • I like 2:25.

  • I think they are right, its not that theres too many people, its that too many people eat more than they need too, think of all the food consumed by the world fattest person and how many people that could feed. Of course im not blameing them directly, some people cant help it because of disorders or whatever, but still. thats how it is and when yer too fat to get up from the couch or bed or whatever who brings the food? its just as much the fault of who brings the food as the ones who eat it.

  • Over population unfortunately is a MASSIVE problem

  • grate answere by yoko that is the truth they try to mess around with that shit that the world is going to end, and the global population, and the global warming, they keep the people minds in that, wile they are destroying and killing people in africa and in others countries like haiti, and cuba, PEACE & LOVE is all that metters

  • Oh I don't care!

  • That was funny of Lennon on 0:11 to 0:16!! What a great unique human being. Such a beautiful couple.

  • "Drugs are not more important than environment." 2:40

This same could be said for the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the war on the people veiled as Marijuana Prohibition.

  • I love you John!

  • I now interrupt all these hate comments for a funny quote.

"Oh, I think your wrong about that..."

    "Oh I don't care!"

  • girl in audience: WASTE precious time in asking Yoko questions..

  • dietcokecan94, Dick Cavett was one of the first hosts, if not the first, who would treat rockstars with dignity, while other talk show hosts looked down on rockstars and treated them like scum. You look at earli interviews of the beatles or Elvis, and the interviewers always treated them with suspicion and derision.

  • Girlfriend needs a bra!

  • Oh i don't care. lol :) Love Johns sarcasm!

  • at 4:57 yokos hair looks like its painted lol

  • That's her hat. :-)

  • i think john always interupts yoko because he knows she is gunna sound like a fool

  • lol, ya because she does

  • love his wit

  • over population, then, is like global warming, now. all political. i love this.

  • oh I dont care....

    :D lol,sarcastic John never changes

  • @idioot15 idiot15, he wasn't being sarcastic. he was being serious because Dick was annoying him, lay off the LSD.

  • Let me add my 2 cents.....I liked him and the Beatles and i think he was on the right track for non violence. Being an artist he got exposed to a lot more than your average person. Not knocking him at all but just because a person can right good music and songs dosen't make him seem to have all the answers to the worlds problems.......I don't know enough about Yoko to comment but i bet if Lennon wasn't famous we would never have heard of her.....PERIOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    But he tried.......

  • I think it would be fair to concentrate more on John Lennon's legacy rather than his shortcomings. He inspired a countless number of people to look at finding peace and love in a time of conflict and suspicion. He also left an indelible mark on the history of popular culture in the late 20th century. We can ask no more of any man.

  • So did George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. They deserve just as much accolade. As for being in his shoes, I spent 16 years helping raise a child who wasn't mine. I couldn't imagine giving up my own child. Who could do that? And he never once contradicted Yoko's edicts about Julian's rights. It was rubbish. He could have put his foot down on behalf of his own flesh and blood.

  • Agreed, but as I said before you were not in that man's shoes. How many other men have had childen and have walked out on them? He is not unique there.

Ringo Starr had virtually parallel experiences when it comes to wives, and I could name a so many others, so again lets not be too hasty about making comparisons. Elvis Presley, probably the biggest star of them all was no angel when it came to morality. That doesn't diminish his legacy or that of any others.

It makes them fallible human beings

  • I don't mean to detract from your fandom of Lennon. Just remember that Paul and George's solo careers had already eclipsed John's before he was killed. I think John owed a debt to the other three. People tend to elevate John unfairly, w/o taking into account how Pauls lyrics and George's guitar stylings brought him to the fame he had.

  • The simply answer to that ist:

His Father was forsaken by his father when he was five years.

His Father left him when he was five years.

And He left his son Julian when Julian was five years.

Always the same in a Family. Some things go thru the Genarations.

  • his dad didn't leav him he got to chooes bettween his dad or mum and at first he chooes his dad but the went running after his mum who them left him with his aunt

  • he's so funny!

  • so he was an atheist?

  • John was not an athiest. He is what you might call an 'agnostic' He believed in 'something' In fact John was a very spiritual man.

  • Where did you get that information from? Just curious.

  • I have read several books on John's life. He had an interest in spiritualism and also the occult. He always seemed to be searching for the right 'light' as he put it.

He was an avid reader of 'The Tibetan Book of the Dead' and other works. Let us hope that John has now found his peace.

  • I loved his response on the myth of overpopulation and how it's only meant to distract us all from the real problem. God bless him, man.

  • "Oh i think you're wrong about that"

    "Oh i dont care!"

    lmao

  • The only good thing about Yoko is that she made John happy.

  • John Lennon is amazing!

  • Yoko is the typical Japanese groupie. Horrible stupid woman.

  • And just how do you find yourself to be different from Chapman, Lardy? You stalk George Harrison videos, saying the most vile, sadistic things with absolutely no conscience behind the things you say. Just moronic, bitter, vile things. YOU are just a big a nutter.

  • Mark David Chapman was partly schizophrenic and partly autistic in some way, he carried "The Catcher in the Rye" in his back pocket...literally. It would be very hard to predict why a mentally handicapped person would do such a thing. He shot Lennon after getting his autograph 2 or 3 hours before. No one can understand the motive of a mentally handicapped criminal. After he shot Lennon, Chapman just sat down on the curb reading "The Catcher in the Rye."

  • "Oh i think your wrong about that."

    "Oh i don't care."

LOL =D That was awsome! I agree with John on that point.

  • That's why John Lennon is my hero!

  • wow, smack in cavett's face. there's obviously no sign of overpopulation now

  • This point is very true, but you need to think of him as the talent that he had, he had great talent it wasn't like everyone else did the things he did and then he took credit for it.

  • He was a screwed up dude. Doesn't mean he wasn't a genius.

  • John Lennon created a new thought of peace. He campaigned for it endlessly and supported it fully.

  • You name me a single person that hasn't got 'skeleton's in the closet' John always knew there were two sids to everyone -including himself. He knew it and accepted it. He knew the best way forward was peace and love - what was the alternative?

Lets not get hypocritical here and start pulling the man's character apart. He once said 'that inside everyone was Jesus and Hitler' He also added 'It is who wins that struggle within themselves that truly counts'

  • From your channel photo I can surmise that you are a big Lennon fan. And that's great. But the fact is that he had serious issues. Yes, he preached peace. He also, according to Cynthia Lennon, had occasion to put her head through a plaster wall for daring to buy him the wrong Christmas pressie. His spirituality was liberally peppered with hedonism and he constantly whined about being abandoned by his parents. Then he abandoned his wife and son. Nothing hypocritical about it.

  • Drugs and/or alcohol can do strange things to a person. This isnt in any way excusing the behaviour in any way. The nonchalant manner in which he treated Cynthia and young Julian was indeed appalling, and something that he later expressed profound regret for. Of course he did have serious issues, just what form they manifested themselves in a person that was going through some kind of profound, personal crisis is a matter of pure speculation. But both you and I were not in the man's shoes.

  • I wonder if his views would hold true to our "global warming" issues. I have always believed that global warming was just some other smoke screen for the government to mask the real issues.

    Power to the People!!!

  • they seem to love each other but they actually had problems in the relationship - it wasnt really the flawless love story it's remembered as

I think you're right - I think he was lost at this point and eventually he would have altered course

  • "Living with four men"

    Best line ever. :3

  • i lived on the same street as john:)so i met him quite a lot:)

  • Seriously? was he nice?

  • I know what ya mean...I actually lived with the Beatles for about 10 years ...so I know what ya mean

  • Yeah, and I'm George Martin.

  • i was bein sarcastic

  • Great interview, but that was a real cop-out answer when the guy asked about the influence of drugs on his music.

  • yes he did a lil bit, . .. I guess it was just the times, although it was the time of freedom and revolution but still tv was conservative . .. sure, now people talk openly about drugs, especially bands, entertainers, stand-up comics especially

  • He was right about overpopulation 30 years on and we still are growing just fine. Hes a smart man.

  • i'm also sick of this idea about overpopulation i hear people going on about it alot today it's absolute garbage.

  • "Oh I think you're wrong about that."

    "Oh I don't care!"

  • you have to love john. he just simple knew he was right and he didn't care about those who opposed his ideas. such a genius.

  • Haha, you can see his sweat on his armpit at 4:57. XD

Anywho, I admire John Lennon and I'm pissed that he got shot. >:[

  • Wow, usually a smart guy Lennon and I really like him, but kind of ignorant and definitely wrong about overpopulation.

  • He is definitely correct on his views of overpopulation. Read a book, do some research before you disagree with John Lennon.

  • Really interesting insight into a man in his absolute element. Intelligent, chilled out and very talented and genuine musician. Great interview thanks for posting it.

  • I'd like to see "It's so hard - live" from this show. Can anyone upload it? I've seen every song performed by John or Yoko in Dick Cavett show, but never It's so hard..it must exist!!

  • absolutely brilliant.. why the hell do people knock Yoko for being honest and caring?... and as for Lennon,, simply a genius, who cared for the world, unlike other so called "pop stars" of today. Wonderful comments about song writing he made. check mine out? I met Lennon and the tosser Macca in the 60's... they lived near to me. ;)

  • I can't help but to watch yoko take a hit off her cigg. it looks like she isnt even inhaling it! it's driving me crazy! haha. I do love Yoko and John both.

  • I just love him.

  • "Oh, I think you're wrong about that"

    "OOH, I don't care"

Funniest guy I've seen in a long time.

  • i think that is my favorite part of this entire clip. very witty and smart guy

  • i cant help but notice how stoned everyone looks in the audience, lol 70s....

  • oh i dont care.

    classic lennon

  • most musicians with balls would not agree with your statement. Keep your nose in the trough, little man.

  • shut uuuuuuuuuuuuupppp.

lidten to what he says and look at his actions

    retard...

  • Who would bitch about anything if the world was perfect?

  • You're talking in the present tense, this was 1971, many years have passed since. To be honest I think you've got your wish for the most part now.

  • Well he's not alive anymore.:(

  • oohhh i don't care!

    ahaha

    of course he doesn't care!LOL

He's john lennon the most greatest man alive he can say whatever he wants!

  • "He's john lennon the most greatest man alive"

    XDD

That is possibly the funniest sentence I've ever read.

  • what did he mean by the government trying to keep your mind off Ireland? or did i hear him weong?

  • Back in those days, the UK was fighting a guerilla/terrorist campaign in Ireland, with the IRA blowing up carbombs in London and the British soldiers being rather heavyhanded with the Irish people at times. It was a major issue of the day that has been resolved with the Good Friday Agreement in the late 90s, thank goodness.

John wrote "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Luck of the Irish" in response to the situation there, and Paul did "Give Ireland Back to the Irish".

  • oh ok,yes i understand.I just didnt think the us was in any way concerned with that,Im an Irish republican myself.

  • i loved it when dick said oh i dont think so and john said oh i dont care

  • yeah dick cavett was pretty cool until the conversation hinted at specific political discourse, and dick was very quick to defend his gov't with a blanket one liner...it reminds me of conversations with my grandma when she absolutely refuses to believe the U.S. gov't would do anything against its citizens' interests....some people just choose to look the other way

  • Love hearing John talk about his music, such great answers. After that he kind of lost me....

  • John you are a loving man and you got a gr8 heart xxxx

  • ...You again? I'm sure there is plenty of Paul footage on youtube that you can be jerking off to right now...

  • obviously i wasnt really serious...calm down , john is the man for sure

  • your a fcking strange lonley creature if u think thats funny.the funny thing is if mcartney read your message he would think u were a fcking tosser aswell!!! fcking grow up or fck off and live in a cave were u cant poison anyone with your personality.

  • for john to say drugs didnt influence his music , i think is wrong i know of a lot of musicians thatsais the same thing ,sadly theyare all dead , its not a case of drugs to get them ahead in music ,its a case music to get them ahead in drugs , we wont here if this is true from john ,as some git took him from his music , just as it was taking off and he was happy with things.

  • Cavett: Oh, I think you're wrong about that

    Lennon: Oh, I don't care

    hahaha

Like OTARA4REAL posted, its interesting how John's belief of the myth of over population distracting the citizens from the Vietnam war relates to the myth of global warming to take our minds of the Iraq War.

  • Hasn't global warming been scientifically proven?

  • Interesting comment JL made about the US Govt putting the 'over population' myth out there to take peoples minds off the Vietnam war.

Funny how history can repeat itself, this time round with the 'global warming' myth to take our minds off the Iraq war.

    Funny that.

  • interesting you should mention that.

although i disagree that global warming is a myth.

  • I disagree. It's the illegal immigrant problem (i.e., Mexicans crossing the border) that the right wing politicians have been using as a smoke screen to divert attention from the failed Iraq War. Global warming is hardly a myth. Global warming is now considered an almost certainty by most scientists.

  • Funny, talented, and wise man! Make Lennon not war.

  • Time has proven Lennon to be right and Dick Cavett wong about overpopulation (although I believed overpopulation was a danger back then too). 35+ years after this show aired it's still not a problem. In fact, you could fit the entire world's population into the United States and it still wouldn't be as densely populated as India.

  • yes but, where would all these people live?

you dont think they're all gonna stand around, or live in apartments

you'd be destroying the forests and all that to build enough housing for those people

  • He's not saying things won't be destroyed to provide people sustance. People have eaten meat which is animal - since humans existed. The people on earth live off eachother and what the universe/God whatever you want to call it provide. It has always been and will always be this way. That's why he is correct.

  • you know, i like when people dont tottaly flame you :)

you make a good point, i can see what you're talking about

    sucks that John's dead :(

  • originaldylan, I know how you feel.

    We need him these days...

  • Man it sucks knowing someone like this lived before my birth. I wish I could have met him at least once

  • How the hell did I miss that much hair the first time I saw this.

  • oh, i dun't ca'! xD

  • Fair pla John, "The Governments use stuff like that to keep people minds of important stuff like Ireland and Vietnam".

Not many people would have the bollocks to say that.

  • Ha ha. I don't care. John Lennon made Dick his bitch.

  • they are exactly right about the over population line,

    its bullshit

  • lol.. i was wondering what linda mccartney and barabra bach think about overpopulation.

  • what?

  • 'oh, i don't care.'...'he doesn't care?' priceless

  • At the end when Dick says; I think you're wrong about that. I agree with John & Yoko about the population not being the issue, more about the distribution. I agree with Cavett about it not being used as a distraction. I mean cmon. lol but anyways- I LOVE john.

  • WOW, that question from the young woman about overpopulation and subsequent pollution - fairly relevant toady in a world of climate change and now double the population!

  • WHAT is he always chewing?! I swear, every time I see him is is chewing on something or another.

  • Is it wrong that I'm attracted to the man in the aisle.

  • Sinful :D

  • 05:15 "OH! I don't care"

    haha

  • lol who doesnt love him

  • I LOVE YOU JOHN LENNON.

  • "I think it's just a myth thrown out by the government to distract people from Vietnam and all the important issues like that."

    "I disagree with you there---"

    "Oh, I don't care."

    God I love John Lennon!

  • "I don't care" - John Lennon is rock and roll lol

  • "Rock and Roll straight!"

  • John was a great man speaking out about the injustices in Ireland and Vietnam at the time. One of the greatest Englishmen ever.

  • 'More time span'! Great!

  • Stop using Blanckfrack to spew your filth, ass monkey.

  • our anti-smoking puritanism has taken some sort of character out of our lives.

  • Cavett isvery intelligent and perhaps one on the best interviewers i grew up watching. The late Merv Griffin was also very good , along withMike Douglas,,showing my age here..LOL!

hes crap!! doesnt get anything john says,

  • John Rules, so nice answering the questions from the audience

  • cavett seems to do a great interview, relaxed, i like that he disagrees with john, its brave, its very much a old style of interview, i love the smoking. this is a great clip.
