  • Heh, I love how relaxed the nature of the game is compared to other games in the series,

  • makes me feel good watchin this old type of game that we all enjoyed so much

  • I want this game

  • My worst deception !

  • That is SOOO cool!

  • This game is more like a Gladius. Where are the force and the charged beam?

  • @prettyangry the game's canonically set before the force was developed, hence why the bits are in and the forces aren't.

  • i dont like how u dont get force but atleast u get the bits

  • I like the music, a refreshing change from the usual dark serious yet catchy music that penetrates the series. Game looks nice, nothing amazing but its R type so instantly good no matter what!

  • this game is so much more fun with 2 player lol but its still fun like this

  • wheres the force?

  • R-Type Leo does not use a Force device.

  • @JudgeSpear2 I found that to be intresting because they gave it a force device in final along with the Psi bits

  • @thecommenterable this game doesn't have one

  • FUCKING CLASSIC.....

  • This reminds me of Zero Wing.

  • Aww, Auto-fire? Really? Is it that hard for you to fire manually? ¬.¬;

  • I don't see auto-fire. If you mean the Psy Bits that have the curving green lasers, than that's normal. It's one of the Psy Bit's abilities.

  • No, no, this guy is using an "Auto-fire" cheat / setting or something through the emulator. It's SO easy to tell.

  • Oh, I couldn't tell... this is what R-Type normally looks like to me. :P

  • Crazy and really fast? [;

  • Well, all the non-arcade titles had rapid-fire cannons. :B

  • What I mean by "Auto-fire" is that he holds down a button and it automatically fires as fast as the game will fire for you... which is quite dishonorable and very unimpressive.

  • But every non-arcade R-Type had the rapid fire cannon, which was equivalent to auto-fire, so I don't it being as big of a deal as using rapid fire in a game such as Metal Gear Solid (very frowned upon since it automatically killed you when it detected it xD).

  • @Xeniphyst Like all CAVE games, i presume

  • wait...

if tis game never did came out...

    HOW DID U GET IT>!?!?

  • it's an arcade game, it did come out

  • orwh

  • the music in the background is it added or is it from the game?

  • it really from the game when I playing it. I can't find the mp3.

  • Best R-Type in my opinion..

  • even if it doesnt have a force I really like this game

    graphics are amazing as well

  • At least you can charge your weapon.

  • For those who just want to see the boss, they're at:

    Boss 1: 2:30

  • This is supposedly a prequel, so the two mini forces are all ya get.

  • Actually my favorite is the R-Type 2 version on the AMIGA 500. It felt more faithful to the Arcade version. Even though it featured less colors (64Half Bright in relation to the 128+ on the SNES version), the levels, sprites & explosions were better designed than Super R-Type and the music was superior even to the Arcade version, hands down.

  • r-type with no force? sux

  • sorry, but it just isn't r-type without the force.

the force is r-type's main signature feature and they just left it out.

were they on crack or something?

it's a good game, but it should've gotten a different name.

  • arcade games.......all they have now when you go to the arcade is a half broken version of dance dance gayalution where the screen all fucked up and off color or somthing

  • R-Type with no force pod?

  • R-type Leo was pretty awesome. Super R-type for the SNES sucked balls. It's R-type Final or bust.

  • Explain, how DOES Super R-Type suck?

  • WTF princeben07?? Super R-type on the snes was the best R-Type made! R-Type leo is a close seccond.

  • IMO Super R-type was kind of a dummied down version of R-Type 2.

you should get R-TYPES for Playstation1 and you can contrast and compare.

  • Super R-type is really good. So what about the slowdown? Good music, good graphics, etc......

    Delta is the best btw.

  • is this gba game or nes game

  • only for arcade

  • I think you can play it under mame ...

  • I guess this video was probably recoded with/from mame because there are glitches which don't appear when played on the original arcade hardware.

  • this r-type game looks alot like a combination of various "shmups" on sega genesis...for ex. looks kinda like sol deace, zero wing, gaiares, etc

  • I don't like the powerups, I like the ball spinning thing, but the new powers are nice, just use the ball thing and the powers and I will like the game.

  • Guys wanna see some GOOD R-Type Leo, watch user "BGRerobachi"

He's one of the best shmup players in Japan.

  • what is "shmup"?

  • It means Shoot em ups

  • Seems like an interesting game. Runs far smoother than the ones I've played. As said previously, it doesn't seem right having the Bits do the work of a Force device. Seems fun though, I want to give it a shot.

  • It doesn't feel like a proper R-Type without a Force Device really... =(

Are the bad guys in this still Bydo, or something else?

  • This game happens before R-Type story -wise right? It was when they used the bits before the invention of the Force System.

  • This has become my standard for shoot-em-up games. Beautiful graphics and sound. Not as difficult as the others, but reasonably difficult.

  • This game is very reasonable for a first 1CC.

  • This is the best shoot-'em-up game out there. Excellent sound track and aesthetically-pleasing graphics. I especially love the artwork in levels 2, 3, and 4. Am glad I can still play it on my pc :).

  • i love the music. really feeling in the space.

  • this is second best r-type (best is super) I only could beat stage 1 wihtout diying.

  • Issues much?

  • I've never seen this r-type. I gotta find it now :)

  • i missed this game thank you let me find it again tks

  • I rather prefer watching GOOD players than playing myself this typo games wich I like pretty much btw. Thx for the vdo and keep it up! Cheers :)

  • out of curiosity wat emulator are u using?

  • At the time I was using MAME32FX with FRAPS

  • Looks like a cross between R Type, Sol Deace, and Gley Lancer.

  • was this game two player simultaneous?

  • Positive

  • That would be awesome, I always wanted a R-type two player simultaneous, to bad they didn't make a snes or a ps port.

  • But you still can play it 2 player simultaneous with mame on your pc, you can play online to with people. Pm me if your interested, i'll give you all the links you need and help you set it up.

  • Wish I could have this arcade in my room. :)

  • same with me...but i rather get an emu and play this game

  • Awesome! Love 2-D sprite based shooters!

  • Wow, I think this is the first time I've ever seen video of this game! Why has it never been released on a console?

  • heh, an r-types for sony psp or DS (like gradius collection) would be fantastic. but they're doing that weird 'rtype tactics'...

  • X-Box might get it. Right now their focus is on going back to arcade games, you might be able to down load it for the 360 when right's pass for release.

  • Ahhh crap. :(

  • I'd heard it was for the SNES in 1992. With the graphics, it looks like a N64 game.

  • Not true. R Type Leo only has an arcade release.

  • @GeneralSirDouglasMcA I think it was Super R-Type that was released in 1992 for the SNES, though I think it could have been 1991, I'm not too sure.

  • This is really an excellent game. Also, one of the most forgiving games in the series when it came to death.

  • To this day the only R-Type game never to see a home port, and a damned shame too as this game is excellent.

  • wow what a great looking game and soundtrack, love it

  • Where the misty fart did this come from?!? Ive never even heard of it before.Looks good though eh?

  • yeah it's a damn shame this never got released, Maybe there is hope for an R-Type box set containing everygame released or am i just living in a dream world?!?!

  • Still wondering why Irem never gave this a home version.

  • Interesting soundtrack; sounds less intense compared to most shmups.
