@familyguy15 As my hair got to the length I wanted it I realized that I really prefer it loose. I like to comb my hair. I like to wear afros. I cornrow my hair now. At this moment in time I don't plan to do them again, but I'll never say never.
@familyguy15 No problem. :-) I cut most of the length of them and combed the rest out. I now have about 5-6 inches of hair. It's not long at all, but long enough for cornrows and nice sized afros. It took FOREVER to comb out that amount, a good 3 weeks of working at least 1 hour each night and more on the weekends.
@freedomrff I was very obsessive about separating my hair in the early stages. I went through my whole head and made sure nothing was starting to lock that was too big. Now, of course, I wish I wasn't so extreme with things, because some of them are too small, in my opinion
arent you glad you made it pass those first stages, cause they had to be rough for you.. but your happy and it all the disguse you got from people, negative comments etc.. it all paid off
Hi. I cannot hear your video because I am deaf. What I would like to know is how often do you wash your freeformed dreads? BTW your dreads do look lovely. I can't wait till mine get that long.
Hello Royce Warren. Thanks for the compliment. When I first started I washed my hair 3-5 times per week. However now I wash it once a week on average (sometimes I go up to 2 weeks without washing), and everything is still going well.
You're hair turned out Lovely! I felt the same as you when it comes to not spending all day in my hair...this is the way to go! Thanks for the inspiration!
I appreciate the interest in my hair and updates. It's just that at this point, I've kind of lost interest in posting hair updates. :-/ I still love my hair, of course, but posting updates not so much. Even the last couple times I posted updates, I didn't really know what to say, nor really have interest in it. Also, I have other interests which are kind of taking over. The biggest one is Spanish. I am determined to be fluent, so I spend a lot of free time doing that.
Relative, you have a beautiful spirit. I watched the 5 month video and am so glad you followed up. Your hair is really beautiful. It's growing wonderfully. I locked my
hair myself just following it intuitively and it looks great and is very healthy. My secred? Coconut milk deep conditioning with honey. Super soft hair!
@saczfinest i think your missing the point, if you've seen awash77's other videos, you'd know that she's taken a freeform approach to locking her hair.
As a fellow "free former" who started from the VERY beginning (completely bald, stopped combing my hair, washed it regularly, etc.), I have to say, I highly appreciate your vids. There really aren't a lot black men and women that post "natural dreads" videos.
Well, I think I was a little obsessive about separating (they can't be too big. they can't be too big). None of my hair is thinning now, but I think some of them are too thin for my taste, so I'm in the process of combining. But it's no loss, I'm just combining now.
I love your hair. You look so beautiful!!!!!!! Our natural hair is powerful!!!!!!!!!!! You'er a good example for black women. May God bless you and keep you and give you peace.
No problem. How's your hair doing?

Thanks! I'm glad you appreciate them. (Sometimes I wish I started shorter, and didn't separate in the beginning, but we do what works)
awash77 2 years ago
You're very welcome :)
When you say that you wish (sometimes) that you didn't separate them, do you mean that you (sometimes) want them thicker? If so, why?

Well, I think I was a little obsessive about separating (they can't be too big. they can't be too big). None of my hair is thinning now, but I think some of them are too thin for my taste, so I'm in the process of combining. But it's no loss, I'm just combining now.
