I have this camera it's very good quality and it's very cheap to buy in Greece is 99 euros 1080 but without zoom if you want you can change settings to 720p and you can zoom in and zoom out...

There is a few problems with this camcorder... One being it's performance in low light levels but I use mine for capturing 'Free Running footage' so I don't use it in the dark but in light conditions its amazing for the price I paid (£79.99 reduced from £159.99), another thing about it is the LCD Screen is pretty terrible, i'm not sure what you call it when you look at a screen from a strange angle and it goes black/white etc but the LCD Screen does that... I would recommend it to anyone (:

@LocalGaminProduction As with any camcorder, recording your television with a camera rather than having recording software/hardware do it means you will see lines and the camera will have difficulty adjusting its exposure so the brightness will be off.

I have this camera too, and like you, I bought it at Best Buy for $159. (It was a boxing week sale). The video quality is great in daylight. It gets image noise in low light though. The only thing I don't like about this camera is that it doesn't have a macro setting whereas the flip camera does. I'd also rather have it use two AA batteries, so that if the batteries died while I was filming, I could just switch them for a pair of charged batteries and keep filming.

Well I returned it for the Kodak Zi8 (now that the price has dropped I'm glad I did). The low light performance is terrible, the lens doesn't have a good aperture. It is perfectly fine for outdoors or well lit rooms. So the short answer is for $179 this camera is bad for for $90 it would be worth it.

Not long at all, probably like 20 minutes. Pretty quick by youtube standards. Youtube uploading isn't as slow as it used to be, back in the day it was like an hour for a 3 minute video @ 640x480.

So basically its like this

U10: Pros : 1080p, excellent audio quality, 10MP pics

Cons: Unusable in Low Light even in medium lit areas indoors. Poor image sensor for taking pics even though they are 10MP

Zi8: Pros: External Mic, 1080p, macro mode, good image sensor for still pics even though its only 5MP looks better than the U10

Cons: Mediocre Audio compared to U10

So if given the choice I say Kodak, but if you plan to shoot mainly outdoors the U10 will suffice if you have no choice.

So what you get is video that has been tipped on its side right? If you have windows you should have windows movie maker (its free) , go to tools -> video effects and rotate it there, it'll take a little while to rotate all the frames but that's it. If you have mac go to iMovie, hit crop -> and then in the video preview screen you can rotate it with the arrrows shown.

Zi8 is much better in Macro mode and takes better video esp in 720p 60 frame. The only thing HMX has over the Kodak is its still are a bit sharper at 10mgp vs 5 but overall after using both I like kodak.

I personally found that the HMX stills (pics) are worse than Kodak, they appear noisier and darker because the HMX has a mediocre lens/sensor.

whats the audio like? i had a kodak zx1, which was 720p, and i was mainly using it for car vids, but it couldnt cope with low noises (like my car running, you can hear it on one of my vids) so i would want to know what the bass range is before i bought it :(

I found the samsung audio to be better at picking sounds, but i don't know about its range so I'm hesitant to comment at low noises.

My friend has one and I used it and it cannot zoom while in 1080p @ 30 fps mode. Doesn't matter much since most use 720p @ 60 fps but it's something worth mentioning. Thanks for your video.

The Samsung u10 looks like a solid camera. The only thing that I have noticed while watching u10 clips is that the camera has to be quite a distance away just to get things in frame. If you were to hold the u10 at arms distance to record your face, I wonder how much of your head would be in frame.

Thats a good observation, I thought I noticed that myself but I didn't think much of it because this is my first flip-like camcorder. Yeah holding at arms distance I Imagine all you would see is the my mouth to my forehead. I just looked at the reviews on amazon, they're awful but I really like this camera.

Just as long as you are not in a tight spot or something then it would matter much...still a great camera and is much smaller than my Zi8. The tri mic thing you mentioned in your review is a really cool feature also. Have you played with the still pictures? If so, how are they?

Of the couple of pictures I snapped real quick they seem to be okay in quality but, pretty noisy looking and nowhere near as good as you would get from a standard digital camera. Even though it's 10mp, the sensor is a video sensor so the pictures do not look as good to a camera sensor. I have a dSLR and if I wanted nice pictures I would definitely go to all the fuss of setting that up before I thought about taking pictures with this even though it is convenient.

Thanks! Purple is Best Buy's exclusive color and they didn't have any other color at least at the store I was in, I wanted black personally. Remember you'll have to buy an SD card too if you don't have any. Make sure you buy the SD card online because they are 3x as expensive at Best Buy.

No problem, 1 gig might get you ten minutes record time at the most, this 6 minute video was about a 1gig. A 16GbTopram SD card can be found on ebay by most sellers for about $35. (BestBuy wants $90 for their cards).
