in the book he leaves esmerelda to die, and quasimodo saves her, but she still wants phoebus even though he never cared about her in the first place. the entire point in him being a soldier was that he looked good/heroic on the outside, but he was a coward, while quasi was truely the hero despite his ugliness. in this movie, he's the typical knight in shining armor disney crap, and i hate him.

Actually disney made this a whole lot nicer than it was originally.

In the book, the blond dude ( I totally just forgot his name ) was engaged, and was trying to seduce her/rape her by telling her he loved her ever though he was engaged. frollo saw this, and stabbed him, and blamed her.

despite what some people think, i believe the gargoyles were a pretty important role in the movie. it's supposed to be a children's movie and if they didn't have the gargoyles in there, it would be a hard movie for little kiddies to watch, considering the topics. they played an important role of telling the story the way a kid would understand it better and not be all angsty from it. also, it keeps them from getting bored. not to mention, they're important to quasi's character.

One flaw to this version is that the tiny scene with Quasi tearing the Ace of Hearts wasn't cut out. Since the Ace of Hearts was given to him by the gargoyles during their song, it's kind of strange to keep that scene since people who didn't watch the movie or even remember how he got it in the first place just seems off. Though that is in the part of where Quasi starts singing 'Heaven's Light' but perhaps could either cut out a bit of the instrumental part right after. Still a great job! :3
